Dark Horse Books joins with Bethesda Softworks and id Software, the creators of the first-person shooter genre, to present The Art of RAGE 2 . Don't miss out on this vital addition to any wild wastelander's collection.
Darkly funny how The Art of Rage 2 is a better art book than Art of Doom, not because Rage 2's art direction, handled by Jeremy Miller, is better (it absolutely is not), but because editor Ian Tucker and the art department at Avalanche Studios bothered to go into intense detail about the world setting, artistic design, and iterative process behind their exploside first-person shooter. Rage 2 is a mediocre game and ultimately as a whole does not work particularly well for me, inferior to even the deeply flawed original Rage, but hearing the artists and writers get into the nitty-gritty about their exact design intentions, what made the final cut, and what wasn't working compared to the absolute dearth of artistic commentary in Doom's equivalent makes it a fascinating read, even if I don't enoy the game much. With these books, the concept art and the quality of the creative vision itself are only half of the battle; without insight from the creatives who made it all possible, it can ring hollow. Highly recommended to anyone who played the game. You might come away with a better appreciation for their initial vision, regardless of whether you think the game, in reality, achieves it.
