While painting, Claire jumps at the sound of a loud crash, which causes her to drop a loaded brush of paint onto the watercolor paper. She manages to spill the jar of water too. The painting is ruined. Or is it? To her astonishment, three perfectly painted teenage boys fill the paper. But how? Once she realizes others can see the boys too, she’s at a loss. Not knowing what else to do, she turns her attention from how it happened to why. Weeks later, Claire is stunned when she meets a woman at Frontier Days who recognizes the boys in the painting. Though her account is heartbreaking, the details spur Claire to ask for permission to come see where the boys grew up. There she meets Chase, a strong yet broken rancher. As their friendship deepens, more of Claire’s paintings change and she is determined to find their purpose. An unlikely cast of characters weave their way into her heart and turn this unbelievable tale into a real-life adventure of love, loss, and the need for forgiveness. WILL CHASE’S PAST CAUSE HIM TO DESTROY ALL THE GOOD THAT CLAIRE UNCOVERS THROUGH HER PAINTINGS? Arleen is the author of, THE Hidden Identities and Hurting People ~ What Will the Pictures Reveal?
Hi. my name is Arleen Jennings, and so far, I have written seven full-length novels. My stories are filled with interesting discoveries and life-changing truths.
I write mysteries with a touch of romance and suspense.
I love it when the characters begin to take on a life of their own, often dictating what direction the story will go.
My hope is that you’ll want to COME JOURNEY WITH ME. Thanks!
I'm also a lover of the great outdoors and even built herself a treehouse where she often spends time writing or painting.
It didn't take but a few pages to forget that Arleen is a personal friend and get Lost in such a great book! I loved that this book was so different than any that I have read in a very long time! Great characters and plot line. I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of sequel with Claire and Chase . Can't wait to read the next book.
I absolutely loved this book! It was an easy read. It was difficult to put it down. I couldn't wait to pick it back up and continue. I never expected for it to have a theme of dealing with loss of a loved one. Least of all, the complications that come with losing multiple people and the work of coming back from this devastating tragedy. The hope that begins to rise up in the characters when they thought that all was lost and but a distant memory. Learning to live and love again and releasing that part of them that was broken and bound to anger and separation. It was truly inspiring to watch the layers of how barriers were removed with the consistency of love, understanding. Hope was brought about by someone brave enough to endure ridicule to those closest to her and let herself be vulnerable to let the miracle, work through her and the circumstances.
This novel has truly been cause for me to reanalyze things that have happened in my own family. Let’s just say a whole lot of years and a whole lot of hurt has passed. In reading the book, I understand the pain felt by Chase and his father. This book was so well thought. God’s plan of our Redemption through Jesus Christ didn’t even occur to me until halfway (okay maybe even further) through. The parallels it drew between the story and that Plan is amazing. Well done!
Wow! Wow! Wow! I'm truly blown away. I couldn't stop reading. The story was able to keep drawing me in when I wasn't sure, and the characters were people I enjoyed getting to know. I was so impressed with how the story developed and all the imagery that helped it come alive. I didn't figure this one out early and that's a pleasing rarity. I will be delighted to find this author again.
When some of Claire's paintings have mysteriously appearing people or buildings in them she sets out to find why. She meets quite a few people who may be connected to each other. One of the main characters she meets is Chase, one of the teens whose image showed up in the first piainting to be changed. Unbelievable, but enough mystery to keep the interest high.
The Painter grabbed my attention from the very first page and took me on a wonderful journey where we explored themes of family, forgiveness, loss, heartache, hope, faith, and miracles. Arleen Jennings is a great writer who crafted a unique and powerful story that, while fictional, reveals real truths that matter. I would highly recommend this book!
A story of pain & severe hurt caused by family. He lost so much yet his aunt & uncle tried to intervene , to love him & support him. Through a miraculous change to her paintings, she learns about the pain & begins to solve the mystery. For a debut novel, the author did a great job of revealing the answers gradually & artfully, increasing the book's interest.
Wonderful read. Engaging characters that made me laugh out loud, chuckle and tear up as shared their emotions.
Loved the story and how quickly this moved. No time to get bogged down and bored. I loved the characters and was surprised with the twist at the end. Fabulous debut novel, bring on number 2!!
Through adversity comes strength and this book is full of both. Faith based, this book tore a hole in my heart for my son who is gone, but reminded me to have strength for my other children. Thank you for this fine book.
Wow what a story. Could not wait to see what happens next. The twist and changes were awesome. How great is our miracle working God without a doubt it could work just way by the painter's brush strokes.
I absolutely loved this book! Can't wait to read another Arleen Jennings book. Great writer! Kept me wanting to read every chance I had and didn't want it to end. Good story line ... was never bored.
Keeps the the characters are added just when they are needed to keep the spell going. Written with no sex, drugs or profanity that so many say can not be done. Hope she writes more!
I liked the way the author kept you guessing where the images in the paintings were coming from and where it was leading. I love a good mystery and I look forward to reading her new mystery novel.
I purchased a copy of the Painter, by Arleen Jennings, and was pleasantly surprised. It had been some time since I read a book just for the enjoyment of reading a good story. After the first few chapters I felt as thought I personally knew the characters, they were presented in such a way that you felt you had known them for some time. The mystery that unfolds before your eyes makes it hard to not want to know what clue or situation will be reveled in the next chapter. I enjoyed the Painter, the mystery and the ending. which I dare not give away.
This book was well written and very enjoyable to read. I loved the characters and the relational connections developed between them throughout the book. The struggles, victories, and intrigue kept me wanting to know more. A great story of perseverance and redemption.
As the author of The Painter, it’s been fun to read the reviews. (More at Amazon) To give you a quick overview, some readers love the book from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. But others found the story starting a little slow . . . decided to keep with it, and were glad they did. Either way, it’s a beautiful story of redemption and I hope you’ll give it a read. Thank you!
