Unchained is a soul-awakening account of life after childhood trauma, of one woman choosing to let go of who she thought she was so she could become who she was meant to be. Tonya Whittle’s story reflects what happens to so many women when they pretend trauma didn’t who they become, what they do, and how they create a vision of themselves for protection. But what happens when the life someone is running from collides with the life they’ve created? Unchained shares Tonya’s own journey through the collapse of a life falsely created, exposing her wounds and forcing the truth. Tonya encourages other women to take off their own masks, face their truths, and do the inner work necessary to live life fully, ultimately leading to healing and rebuilding. Unchained takes women on a journey to the soul, from head to heart, from fear to faith, from girls gone wild to wild soul women. For anyone who feels disconnected from life, who is just getting by, simply existing, Tonya reaches out to encourage them to let go of the things that have happened to them and thrive despite those traumas. In the face of #metoo and #timesup, her story serves as an instruction manual for how ancient wisdom, and the process of facing the past, lead to an amazing future―no matter what happened.
This book is a journey of discovery to intimate parts of the author's life that deal with trauma and choices that shaped who she became throughout her life. It kept me reading and not wanting to stop until it was finished. I smiled, laughed and cried along with Tonya. She is such a brave, inspiring, intelligent wild woman who teaches us how to take our own healing journey to our soul. It is written with tenacity and authenticity and is full of lessons and wisdom that teach the reader to be who you are meant to be. It is an amazing tool to help me along my journey. I will definitely reread it and recommend it to family and friends.
In “Unchained”, Tonya takes the reader through her own journey to freedom and healing from childhood trauma. Tonya’s excellent ability to draw the reader in makes “Unchained” a book you don’t want to put down until you’ve turned the last page.
Women will be surprised at the immediate connection they feel with this book. As I followed Tonya on her journey, I felt a connection and an awakening. We all have our own individual journeys but there are many points of intersection and relating to the feelings, emotions, reactions and conditioning others are also experiencing. You will recognize parts of yourself in these pages and realize you have been waiting for this book. I have started my own journey and this book will be a valuable resource as I anticipate multiple readings.
I love the concept of the "wild woman" introduced in this book. It speaks to me. The author writes from the heart about her journey. It is raw and real. I felt like she was almost telling my own story in parts of the book. The message is powerful. If you are like many women these days - stresses, searching, feeling disconnected, read this. It is an inspiring and empowering story of one real woman's journey to freedom.
I enjoyed the book, but I just didn’t love it. I honestly can not pin point exactly why that is. It just seemed to drag on a bit for me, and I also found multiple grammatical errors in the book that made it seem unprofessional. The book was motivating, I just didn’t love it.
Amazing read! Tonya's story is one of triumph. Through some of her darkest times she found the strength to turn turn it all around and help others. Had me in tears from the beginning! Highly recommend this book.
