13 years have passed since a victim was dragged to the altar, shackled at the foot of an inverted cross, and prepared for a terrifying and agonizing death.

13 years have gone by since the ritual dagger descended in a silvery arc to plunge swiftly into a still-beating heart.

13 years of renewed life had been granted to the believer who had sacrificed his own blood relative - 13 years of power and youth to sustain a body centuries old.

Sarah is a social worker and a Parkman. This is a strange family. Her mother thinks they are evil. Her grandfather seems to be a nice man though. Rescued her one when her own father tried to molest her. Now her father is gone for 13 years. Why is Sarah so important to her grandfather? What about the backstory about Cardinal Sacchi and his founding of a new cult? What is Thomas' role and that of the evil church? Can Sister Mary solve the riddle and prevent a new sacrifice for the devil? Who will be the next sacrifice? People around Sarah begin to vanish or die. What is going on? Well, there is some evil on the loose here. To be honest I expected a bit more dark rituals and sexual acts of satanism here. It was a fast paced read with eerie elements (e.g. the talisman). But overall it was a bit too tame for what the cover bite off. If you like devil worship in a milder form than for instance John Tigges writes about it this book definitely might be worth a look. Not too hard with some dark and mysterious points. A bit too superficial but overall a good pulp horror read. Recommended!
