C P Cabaniss lives in a small town in the southern United States where she teaches math, imagines—and sometimes writes—stories, and reads too many books at once. She is most inspired while with her horses, meditating in a historic cemetery, or exploring retired naval ships. She loves to travel and has long dreamed of adopting a nomadic lifestyle—though she has yet to determine what this would mean for her collection of books, which seems to grow by the day.

The sequel of Worlds with Ruby, this second installment in the Ferris Wheel Stories continues Ruby's adventures in the afterlife.

Ruby had completed her task as a Traveler and found her place of rest. But her old life, her old death, had not finished with her. She had grown restless and started to crave more. After all, eternity wasn't about rest, it was about work. And she had work to do.

Pulled back into the land of the Wheel, Ruby discovers a dark secret surrounding Travelers and the worlds they save, a secret that threatens to break her. And at the center of it all, is none other than her very own Angel of darkness, Damen. Only that Angel of darkness no longer conveyed all that he was and had done.

This time, her journey as a Traveler is different; darker than ever and terrifying!
Of all the oddities of death, this might possibly be the strangest. Though in an afterlife of strange giving concrete rankings was nearly impossible.

And the stakes are a lot higher.
The Wheel itself is in danger of collapsing and Ruby is forced to ask herself: Could the afterlife die? What happened if she failed her assignment?

She is again pulled from one world into another; one more wondrous than the other; and each and every one of them in danger of being destroyed.

The flying island was my favorite and I somehow picture it like this:

Floating island by Anna Nadolynna-Harris - paintings and prints ArtPal

And the hourglass the most haunting, because of it's meaning!

"Sands of time, sands of life, sands spin fast until you're out of time."

Death by Choice - Freedomwriter13059 Wattpad

In a race against time, Ruby must cling to hope despite despair as
Sometimes reality is bleak and you have to feel that oppression to be able to appreciate the beautiful moments, which far outweigh the dark.

And she has to put up a good fight for the worlds she's come to care about and the people she loves. Because:
Sometimes good people make mistakes. And sometimes you may need to tell a dead man to just relax and breathe, to keep him from tipping over the brink into insanity.

Even more haunting than it's sequel, this imaginative little story will keep you at the edge of your seat from the very first page till the very end. Vivid and evocative, this is one of those tales, that will stay with you long after you turned the last page.
After all,...
life or death... we might as well make the most of it and see what we can do to help while we're at it.

Happy reading!

Falling Worlds Update 3-23-19

The sequel to Worlds with Ruby is finally complete and, if all goes according to plan, should be available for purchase on April 1st.

This story has been a long time coming, but I'm really happy with it, so I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I am making some final edits and getting the cover finished, then it should be ready to go. I will update here again once all of that is finished.

I am utterly fascinated with the worlds this author creates and I love everything about these books. Despite how short both of these stories are, nothing ever feels rushed or left out. Which honestly, I think is quite an accomplishment, especially for fantasy. Do I wish they were longer? Selfishly, perhaps. But I also think the lack of stretching and over-explaining is one of the best things about both Worlds with Ruby and Falling Worlds.

So Ruby is back to the land of Wheel. The Wheel is collapsing and Ruby has reunited with Damen. Okay, now that I'm writing this, I keep typing then deleting parts of this synopsis because I can't decide how much of what I'm writing would be considered spoilerish. Especially for a 67-page short story/novella. One of my absolute favorite things about both of these stories is how original and completely unique they are. Would it be cheating if I just said This book is awesome, do yourself a favor and read this series? Because that pretty much sums up what I'd say in any longer more detailed synopsis /review. I loved this. I also loved Worlds with Ruby. I wholeheartedly recommend.

But. But. Do yourself a favor and read the first story first. Not only is it short, it's necessary. There are so many small scenes that are intense and emotional and I don't think they would really have the same impact without the backstory.

The second adventure in the afterlife world follows Ruby as she is tasked with rescuing her guide, Damen. After her missions in the first book, Ruby is given a resting place full of calm people and pretty surroundings. But when the Wheel appears, she knows she has been called again. Arriving at the land of the Wheel, she discovers the magical object joining worlds is falling into ruin and no one can help. Deep within her, Ruby knows that the breaking Wheel has something to do with her missing friend and she hops into a compartment, determined to save Damen.
Alone, and for once completely clueless about what to do, Ruby must venture through numerous worlds, searching for Damen. When she does find him, she is horrified to discover a man drastically different than the one she had come to know. Now, Ruby must save several worlds and the Wheel and Damen, even from himself.
It was intriguing to see more about the mysterious dark guide from the first book. His backstory and personal journey and challenges were satisfying and worth the wait. The author shows great skill in demonstrating the emotional agony and the near insanity that can cause. Watching the poor boy struggle was painful and had me even more desperate for Ruby to save him.
I loved this book and hope the author continues writing, whether in this world or another. The worlds we visited were unique as always and very fun to explore. I give it 5/5.
