Constance Robertson was born in Niagara Falls, Canada, the daughter of Pierrepont Burt and Corrina Ackley Kinsey Noyes. As a small child she was taken to live in Kenwood, Oneida County, New York, the original home of the famous Oneida Community founded by her grandfather, John Humphrey Noyes. she attended Dana Hall in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and the University of Wisconsin. Shortly after her marriage she and her husband, Miles E. Robertson, took an extended trip around the world. After living in Syndey, Australia, the couple spent a year in the Far East and then went to London. They returned to the United States in 1921.

From 1925-1930 Mrs. Robertson was editor of a small privately printed magazine. Her first book, Enchanted Avenue, was published in 1931. Five Fatal Letters, published in 1937 and written under the pseudonym "Dana Scott," won the novel prize at the Bread Loaf Writers Conference. In 1938, as was perhaps inevitable for the descendant of a history-making family, she turned to history and her next five books explored with remarkable penetration various phases of nineteenth century America. Her first historical novel, Seek No Further, appeared in 1938, followed by Salute to the Hero, 1942; Fire Bell in the Night, 1944; The Unterrified, 1946; and The Golden Circle, 1951.

Six Weeks in March, published in 1953, and Go and Catch a Falling Star in 1957 were followed by three non-fiction books on the history of the Oneida Community.

This was part of my research for my novel-in-progress, Perfecting Eden, which is a fictional account of the lives of my ancestors in the Oneida Community. It is a gold mine of information about daily life in the OC, just what I needed to help me enter this long-ago world, to see its sights and hear its sounds. Those mundane details, often overlooked, are raw materials for the novelist.

As a 15 year former resident of Oneida, NY I found the book interesting. I was amazed that the Community held national attention and that experiments in eugenics happened right down the road in little Sherrill, NY. I am looking forward to Noyes' next book.
