Michael Collins is one of the most famous figures in Irish history. He became the most wanted man in the British Empire, a minister in the first Irish government and Commander-in-Chief of the army. He helped to negotiate the Treaty, which allowed Britain to keep the Six Counties. Many fellow fighters refused to settle for this leading to the Irish Civil War and the 1922 ambush in which Collins was killed by former comrades.
