I did not enjoy this book. 😬

This is a transmigration story. We have Lin Shuyi who died in ancient times and transmigrated to the future. It was quite an interesting synopsis. Usually, transmigration novels are 'died in the future then woke up in the past' but this story is the opposite - 'died in the past and woke up in the future'. This synopsis is the reason I read this book. Also, it was supposed to be focused on cooking. I love cooking themes on light novels.

This book did not go the way I envisioned it. One more tag for this book is bl or boy's love. So our main character Lin Shuyi is partnered with Shen Fu. It wasn't really a big deal for me. The thing that made this read so slow is the plot itself. The non-existent plot was filled with daily mushiness and sweetness that will surely hurt everyone's teeth.

The fact that he's a transmigrator was glossed over. Also, Shen Fu being a part of a rich family was not a conflict at all. The conflict on this story is almost non-existing. The story is too smooth sailing, it was so hard to read through.

It was all good times and fun times and cutesy times. What is this? 😬

I only pushed through because of the cute kids. Too good to be true.

Completed. 119 chapters + 6 chapters side story.

It was good until chapter 60-ish, then going slump. I love the kind hearted but ambitious Lin Shuyi, the one that keep surprising everyone with his wit and skill, but half way the writer destroyed his image and made him "bucin". The story after that, lacks of conflict, all but lovey-dovey without character. The only thing that still grabs my attention till the end was brother Shen Yan and his mysterious love story.

That and all the plot holes, logic holes and inconsistency, aaarghhh.... I would love it more if the fantasy part got dig more deeper, gave it some villain like xiao xiao and his mother, and some more heart-wrenching tears (bad me) 😜😂

The thing is... alllll the cooking and foodie description always, ALWAYS, made me hungry.

Lo que sí me dio pena! Y lamenté que no profundizaran más fue;

it was good and fluffy but literally nothing happened?? How in 120 chapters could absolutely nothing occur, this prospect continues to completely baffle me. I kept waiting for the story to pick up but it never did. This has been the biggest disappointment of my life. Like would a competition or something be that hard to implement. Like okay he cooks! bitch me too tf write about me.

This novel was about 10% interesting tension and plot, and 90% domestic bliss and food. I liked the food, but I found I got bored with no major plotline outside of everyday life.

To be perfectly honest, it became boring as heck.
No nail-biting conflicts, no doubt-inducing situations. It's like taking a break from spices and settle for some rices.

I mean, sure, the first part has got some conflict and oh-no-what's-gonna-happen plot drivers, but after that was resolved, it was just.. as if it didn't really affect anyone. No one learnt anything, no one became more anything or less anything.

I had to take a break to read some other faster paced short stories. At one point, I accidentally had to read paranormal smut(hey, sometimes you don't have cover to judge but the title.... my bad tho), but that's okay, I pretend it was a part of the plan.

Totalmente recomendado.

I liked the book, though the beginning more than the end. The chapters with recipes were the best! However, the recipes disappeared towards the end, as did the fun cooking scenes, and the book became much more pure fluff with little plot.

I also thought the author's viewpoints a bit simplistic sometimes, especially some of the assumptions about the US and how easy it was to do things there.

I enjoyed the first half of the book then on the second half, it lost its original focus. I still managed to read until the end though but i feel like the second half of the story might have worked better as extras instead.

It's a beautiful novel. Yes, it's a slow romance full of tenderness and support between the protagonists. No, it doesn't have a plot or a villain, but that's what makes it such a relaxing and cozy read.

Each chapter is based on or involves a dish from ancient China, everything sounds delicious!

I think people were setting their hope way to high with this book, if you just think of it as mindless fluff you will enjoy it and not be too dissatisfied.

It's actually a good book, I just feel like it needs more character story and there are details that are left behind and not explained more.

DNF - at chapter 50.

I started getting bored with the ML and MC. They seem to be on two different wavelengths and they aren’t very interesting.

Enjoyed the story with Old Man Wang, but as soon as things shifted to meeting Shen’s family, I just found it annoying and the idiotic misunderstanding that was deliberately done by the ML was just s*upid.

Won’t pick up again as it’s too boring.
