Lynn Donovan is an author, playwright, and director who spends her days chasing after her muses trying to get them to behave long enough to write their stories. The results are numerous novels, multi-author series, anthologies, dramatizations, and short stories. Lynn enjoys reading and writing fiction, paranormal, speculative, contemporary romance, and time travel. But you never know what her muses will come up with for a story, so you could see a novel under any given genre. All that can be said is keep your eyes open because these muses are not sitting still for long! Oops, there they go again…

Another wonderful addition to The Pinkerton Matchmaker series!! Such an entertaining storyline as we see each male Pinkerton Agent be matched up with a female and marry her. Well, it is for the sake of them being able to travel and train together! Of course they can get an annulment once they have learned enough to be on their own or finish the assignmen! Simple? Hardly! Laurel Wellington was one such lady who wanted to become Pinkerton detective. Well her father insisted she become one because she would have access to steal an artifact for him. Oh yes, but she wanted to get out of the family business and this would be her way! Get the piece, give to father, go live her life. Easy. Unfortunately nothing usually is that smooth! She is paired up with Ransom (love that name) Williams, a seasoned agent who is not thrilled when he gets his next assignment. Laurel is happy to be paired up with him, but will he find out about her and her father? Will these two stay married or what will happen? I enjoyed this story so much. Lynn Donovan became one of my favorite authors when I read "The Blacksmith's Daughter." Her writing and characters come alive with her descriptive words and I always have a smile as I turn the last page!!
Torn because I actually really enjoyed the story but...
There are a number of random typos and missing letters, for example: 'Ransom glar' ' ' ' ed at Laurel', breath instead of breathe, mean instead of means and are instead of 'as' or maybe 'as our'- not sure which. Whilst these don't sound like huge things the words they create don't make sense in the sentence, which disrupts your flow whilst you go back to re-read and decipher. If you can get past this I really liked Laurel and Ransom, the verbal jousting as they try to get each others measure is entertaining and the plot is good. I have read other books by Lynn Donovan and not come across this issue with typos, so it is possibly just a blip in this book...it won't stop me reading more books by Lynn Donovan in the future. I read this book on Kindle Unlimited.
Laurel and her father were skilled thieves. He needed information only known from the Pinkertons. Laurel agreed to join the agency in order to obtain the information her father wanted. Laurel was partnered/married to her trainer Ransom and they were assigned the very case perpetrated by Laurel and her father. What a tangled web we weave, what was she to do now? This is a very interesting and adventurous book and I'm sure you will enjoy it as I did.
Will Laurel get the opportunity to get out or will she have to stay as her father’s helpmate? When she infiltrades as a Pinkerton agent and get married to Ransom she needs to decide her priorities. Can she be free and happy with the man she loves? Entertaining story as of all the books in this series. The actions at the end are a little surprising.
It was enjoyable to see a totally different style of story. Im still not sure I like the dark Pinkerton. The creativity is all here. A couple of typos. The intrigue is not as great as some others in the series but It's clean, historical and has a fun twist.
Lynn Donovan has given us a story filled with interesting characters, some from history and some from her imagination, and a plot with a surprise twist. Ransom was blindsided by the Pinkerton trainee he married. As most of the seasoned agents he underestimated his wife, Laurel. The ensuing case brings a few surprises. I enjoyed this book.
How can a thief become a Pinkerton agent? Lie and deception of course. Ransom is a good agent and wants to find the "ghost thief" and teach is new partner/wife Laurel how to be an agent, but she had a secret. Read to find out what it is.
I was intrigued by Laurel's reason for joining the Pinkertons. Infiltrating as a spy for her criminal father is really a unique idea. But I just found the story was too over the top and unrealistic. I realize it's a romance novel, but I still couldn't make it match to the Pinkerton's code of ethics. Laurel and Ransom are on the trail of the Ghost Thief, but little does Ransom realize that his wife knows more than she's letting on. It was an ok read but definitely not one of my favourites in this series. Still, it was clean.
