Col: His Destined Mate

Rate this book
Seven wolf guardians make the ultimate sacrifice...to fight the ultimate evil.

Brutal wolf shifter Col was bred for war. Now he’s woken up in a strange new world, fighting an invisible enemy with hellish plans for humanity. His only chance at love died a thousand years ago - or did it? There are no more destined mates for his kind – that’s what he’s been told. But when a beautiful woman with no past needs his help, she stirs shocking desires.

The more he fights his need for her, the fiercer it burns. Now Col must question everything that he believed to be true. And if he can't open his guarded heart to love - his War-Pack’s battle will be over before it starts.

Lily knows better than to believe in love, or happily ever-afters, any more - until she clashes with an impossibly sexy bodyguard who lights a strange longing in her. Col feels like home, and love, and things that can’t be true. He makes her wish for more than life on the run.

But Col and Lily are both hiding dark secrets that could destroy the fragile bond they’ve forged – when the truth is revealed, who will be left standing?

Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.

Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).

When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.

On chapter 8. Dear god, this book fills so dry and elongated for no good logical reason I found several typos and these were outside the purposeful typos that are suppose to represent old medieval English. The transition of time between what I think is a set of characters coming from a medieval period (from which period or country is super unclear) is hard to distinguish because these characters are actually in present time (today/modern times).

The setup is a bit weird and feels strange because both authors haven’t really explained it? The authors also didn’t really clarify the time to give a point of reference to make it easier for the reader. As you see the present unfold with the main story (while other characters and details try to paint a large background of plots and story development), the writing isn’t terrible, but the editing and the pace is all funky. It doesn’t feel like Georgette wrote this or much of it. Like they just used her name and that’s it. I wish this book was better. I wanted to be super hyped about it but it’s very different from Georgette’s earlier works and I’m return this book immediately and delete it off kindle ASAP.

This book is a miss for me.
The bones of the story are good but it's so detailed it becomes a bit boring.
The main characters don't meet until chapter 4 I think, it takes ages to get going.
It can be difficult if you are building a new world, history and culture to balance that with the main story esp if it's the first book in the series but I felt this didn't work.
There are some good moments.
There is a mate connection.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
No cheating.
Bit of ex drama.
Lots of secondary characters for future books in series.
HEA.

Georgette St. Clair spread her writing wings and went a little different with this her first book in a new series, and it is awesome!
Col and his fellow Waryeors are trying to fit in with the modern world. Miller is a retired Waryeor that brings Bredhren into the modern world by introducing them into modern warfare, modern language, helping to instill them with group discipline. They need to be able to fight The Dark Warlord when he comes. Simon is the human charged with their well-being. He owns the Ren Fare where most of the story takes place.

Lily is on the run from her abusive ex. Her car breaks down outside the Ren fare, near the town of Gardendale. She goes inside the office to use a phone to call for a tow. When she realizes how much it will cost to fix her car, she knows she will need a job to save money. The HR director Rika offers her a job that includes free room and free meals.

Cadmus is the chief bad guy in town. He has a bumbling sidekick and a recruit from the Ren fair. Col escapes from Cadmus' clutches by turning into a wolf. Now Cadmus is doing everything he can to recapture Col in hopes of getting back in the good graces of His Terrible Majesty AKA The Dark Warlord.

Col and Lily are drawn to each other. Col fights the need to be with her until his alpha points out that Lily could be his Destine. Both have secrets that keep them running hot and cold. They go through an emotional rollercoaster and other challenges to get to their HEA.

I loved Col and Lily's story! I love Simon, and I hope that he will also get his story. The Vixar, Tybalt lost his mate when they were put under the sleeping spell. I pray that he will be given a second chance at a Destine. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series!

Great plot idea, bad implementation and too long.
Something different from this author but just misses the mark for me. Not the usual entertaining read but this could be due to apparently being co-written. Too bogged down and slow.
I really struggled with this right from the beginning and it didn’t get better for me. Found myself skimming through the over explained parts. Really needs tidying up and more explanation about who these men were and why they had taken this path in life. This could not have been an easy decision to make.
I disliked the inconsistent speech patterns that seemed to fluctuate all the time form old style to modern slang. This overflowed into actions as well. They seemed to have adapted to modern day life then stumbled over something simple.
Disliked Lily being an abused doormat at the beginning but at least she did leave but never unfortunately she strengthened as a character. Even at the end she felt weak. I would have preferred her to have beaten Jordy.
Col was not alpha enough for my taste. He had made a huge sacrifice to accept this role but didn’t seem very intelligent or a smart thinker. Did too many things that were are annoying.
The baddie was just too comical to be taken seriously and if I read HIS TERRIBLE MAJESTY one more time I would have screamed.
Saying that the idea is intriguing and I might try the next book.
I was kindly offered this book but read it through KU.

I feel really bad for writing this review because I'm not one to write leave bad review. I will say that I like the beginning of this but after a while felt like the story started to drag on making it really hard for me stay focused on the story. Which also made it hard for me to want to finish the story. Another thing that buggy me was how not Alpha Col was he was very insecure and self doubting in his Waryore job and I didn't like how easily he jump to conclusions about Lily. He dump Lily flowers and runs off without even finding out what she was being accused of was even true. Definitely not the author confident and alpha type guys. Even with that being said I'm still interested to see what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

So over the pointless alpha slut

Thought this was going to be really good. The first few chapters started off great getting right into the story and the action.
But..it really took a dip not far into it. The world building was ok but needed a little more. There were editing errors and there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary dialogue.
And I really started disliking some of the main characters. The wolf protectors and their wenching was not only pointless, but just yuck 🤢.
So they basically pick up random woman and then have sex with them in a back room, and everyone seems to know it and about the back room. What??? Sorry but I’m so sick of the community dick alpha. I literally stopped reading it was soo frustrating and made zero sense.
Not sure I’ll even finish this and that god it’s a KU, I’d be very bummed if I paid for this.

A house full of hotness

Oh my! This book is completely different from the author’s normal fair and I absolutely loved it! The dynamics between all of the characters is a delicate weave that takes the entire book to build. With each new layer, the intensity of the story continues to build until the end where the pressure explodes and so much is revealed to us, including the lead into the next book. I love the hot time challenged warriors, the kind hearted support staff, the loyal employees, the old world magic, I even enjoyed the aloof evil villains and their abused sidekick. I was so glad that Col and Lilly found their HEA and I can’t wait to read the next book.

Only ok

I am a big Georgette St Clair fan so I was very excited to see a new release in Kindle Unlimited. Unfortunately I wasn't that impressed with this one. It suffers from book 1 workd building overload so it moved at a snail pace. After 10% of boredom, I skipped to 50% and was able to pick up in the who's and what's.

I was driven mad by one thing in particular. Katie's name is used 181 times. Half of those times she us called by her first and last name (Katie Cooper). In internal dialogue, in conversation with others, in conversation with her. Multiple times in 1 paragraph.

Not this authors usual type of story but although a bit long enjoyed it.
Col is the first to find his destined mate and then there’s an evil foe to fight.
Looking forward to reading more in the series.

Woot!

First book in a new series and I love it! Seven big, strong, hunky men, 2 missing brothers in arms, and one sweet heroine. And oh my, but the bad guys are super evil! Cannot wait for the next book.

Awesome introduction to the Waryeors

I liked how the story kept me engaged and the anticipating what would happen next. I appreciated how Katie/Lily wasn’t always the one needing help/support. I truly look forward to the next in the series!

Something is off. It reminds me of the brotherhood a lot and the whole writing was weird. The different spelling to represent old "English " language was a joke. It has great potential as it has tons of characters for individual books but i'll just have to read the next for a full opinion. Also the sex scenes were boring and non descriptive and not well written at all.
