New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Melody Anne begins a sizzling and heartfelt series about Joseph Anderson’s long-lost nephews.

Finn Anderson is a loyal military veteran who has no desire to live a life of luxury and ease, but sometimes a person doesn’t get a choice. His life is flipped upside down when he and his four brothers learn they’re long-lost relatives of the absurdly famous and wealthy Joseph Anderson. The eccentric but generous billionaire puts the brothers to work building a new veterans center, and that’s not Joseph won’t stop until each nephew finds love.

Finn has never expected or wanted an easy life, and he struggles with his early retirement from the elite SEAL team. But when a very confident Brooke Garrison literally sweeps him off his feet during a self-defense class he’s teaching, he thinks less about his past and more about a brand-new future.

If Finn knows anything for certain, it’s that he can’t let this woman get away. Though Brooke is tough and compassionate, the loss of her brother has left her vulnerable. She isn’t sure she can risk loving and losing another person in her life, including a very determined ex-SEAL. Can the two of them look beyond their past wounds and embrace what they’re feeling?

Won ARC from Goodreads. This is my honest review and opinions.

I remember the past Anderson Billionaires books and really enjoyed those.
This is different. The characters are okay and the story is average.

Joseph Anderson has a large business project he's invested in. He's wanting to engage with his nephews after finding his extended family. He's decided to involve each nephew in a project to bring them all closer.
th
Finn is one of the nephews. He injured his back deployed in the military and had to leave. And on top of leaving the career he loved he also lost his mother and a horrible dad . So he's now gotten himself involved in his uncles business and decided to take on the proposed project.

Brook is teaching a self-defense class when Finn and her meet. Interesting first meeting too. 😂
Finn falls instantly and "knows" she's the one. Brook has walls around her heart. The loss of her brother devastated her and she doesn't trust easily at all. Finn was beyond persistent of getting his girl. He was a little obnoxious at time to be honest. And Brook was stubborn. So interesting combination.

The romance was off for me. I again mention the old Anderson series which I loved. But this has a different feel for me. I didn't feel the depth of emotion or chemistry with these two. Some of the lines where sappy and a little over the top. To be honest at times I found myself skimming some parts as they were a little much for me. The writing was a little choppy as well, abrupt in some places, with a lot of inner dialogue, more from Brook.

I didn't really feel the "fall in love" phase with these two. More Finn chasing Brook and Brook dealing with her issues and pushing back.

I found the last several books by this author to have a different writing style. It's not one that is to my liking. I might try one of her books again at some point.

3 It was okay Stars

If you had to ask me what Finn was about, I couldn’t tell you. I had the book in the background as background noise, but other than that, it really wasn’t much a book for me.

I didn’t feel there was a plot.

I didn’t really get the chemistry between Finn and Brooke.

To me, I just listened to a bunch of words for about 7 hours.

I guess my problem was, I felt like I was going into the book in the middle of the series. Even though this is the first book of the series, I am assuming it’s a spin-off from another series. I couldn’t really follow the characters because there was a lot of secondary characters.

I didn’t even get the tension between the two main characters. I know Finn had insta-love and lust for Brooke, which was good because I love it when the Hero chases after the heroine, but other than that, I couldn’t name you anything else I liked.

I felt like the book was cheesy at times and I LOVE cheesy books. I didn’t get why Brooke held back and when they got together, I didn’t feel it.

Would I read / listen to another book in the series? I’m not sure, I’ll never pass up an audio book on Kindle Unlimited but I’m not sure if Melody Anne is my jam.

- Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review -
2.5 stars.
“Finn”, by Melody Anne (Montlake Romance), started out as an entertaining story, with relatable characters. Predictable and clichéd, but still enjoyable with the human dimensions, the pain the leads had gone through, with some fairy tale tones, too.
I began to feel frustrated when the hero, whom I was expecting to be wounded, turns into an actor, feigning injuries to conquer the heroine he’s just met but already decided he’s going to marry. The cockiness was a bit irritating and Finn’s behavior idiotic, just as his doctor friend says.
A succession of events against a backdrop of family, friends and happy couples, follow, not really grabbing my interest. Lots of sex scenes, too. I was expecting to read more about the veteran’s center project.
So, not my type of story, others might like it.

Super humans

Wow I have never read a book where the characters are s sexual god and goddess. Brooke is always ready. She is always wet and can be by the sound of Finn’s voice or just thinking about him. She can do it anywhere at any time. But she can’t tell him she loves him. Finn is a sex God. He can go multiple times and be ready again a second after he finishes. And he loved Brooke at first sight. Oh yeah there is a story in there.... all that unbelievable stuff just takes up too much head space. Wow talk about unrealistic body images this is unrealistic sexual expectations to the extreme. If you read this you will feel inadequate in more ways the one.

The plot is even more unbelievable. After all this time you have a rich cousin and he doesn’t even know you but loves you and wants to give you money. They keep saying he is a match maker and he does nothing to influence the path of Finn or Brooke. So why bring it up.

I listened in the car and the one voice for both POVs was laughable at times. The different female voices for each character got confused by the reader. I also for once listened to the whole thing. Not continuing the series at all.

Finding love

After a tragic accident ended his Seal career Finn was left reeling wondering what he’d do.

When his brothers and him find that they are part of the powerful Anderson family they’re shocked to say the least. Finn is not sure what to think he doesn’t trust easily. When the powerful Joseph Anderson presents a project for them to work on he’s intrigued.

What he didn’t expect was to fall instantly in love when Brooke walked into his defence class. But he did instantly.

Brooke is a medical practioner and ex military. She’s not one to need anything or anyone. Still dealing with the loss of her brother she’s not interested in love.

But I doubt she expected the full force of Finn Anderson. It’s going to be a wild ride one neither one knew they needed.

THE SHORT - Overall, this just wasn’t the book for me. I need at least a little bit of believable sprinkled in with the over-the-top unbelievable. If this was real life he would have been arrested for stalking and trespassing. He would have gotten kicked in the nuts the first time he pushed his way into her house. Him continuously going after her after she said no because he “could just tell she wanted him” sounds like a future rapist.

THE LONG - I really had a hard time finishing this. Honestly, it was so annoying I wanted to give up. Brooke has hang ups about having a boyfriend and being in love. She had just lost her brother and didn’t feel she was ready. I felt like she was the only sane person in the entire book. Flynn fell in love the moment he met her and then bulldozed his way into her life. He goes to her house early in the morning, wakes her up and pushes his way inside to grab coffee. Then he tells her they are going out. Of course, she loses all of her anger from being woken up and just goes along with it. This is a reoccurring theme throughout the entire book. He lies and manipulates his way into spending time with her. What really got me was him telling everyone they were getting married when he was still a stranger. Of course, her friends think he is awesome and sees nothing wrong with this. What kind of friends don’t stick up for you? Any sane person would agree that every one of his actions are unacceptable stalker behavior.
Another issue...she is a Nurse Practitioner not a DOCTOR. Why not just write her a little bit older and actually make her a doctor? The amount of times she is referred to as Doctor is crazy. The way she is portrayed is more like a doctor and she seems to have her own medical practice. When in her practice she seemed very unprofessional. A soldier coming in for a head injury that has a past history of them should have automatically been referred to a CT/MRI to make sure there was no hemorrhaging or any other damage. Not her trying not to touch him and just telling him to go home....Brooke’s time in the Military was pretty much overlooked. How long was she even in?
Flynn does not act like a soldier who just came back injured from war. I know, they all don’t act the same but isn’t he supposed to have some hang ups? That is what it sounded like from the description. It was just constantly brought up that he was one of the elites. He was an elite but it was so shocking that Brooke could beat him. However, it was always said that she wouldn’t have beat him if he wasn’t distracted or if he actually wanted to win. His special dates he took her on were completely ridiculous. It would have been fine if there was normalcy in between with actual conversations but there wasn’t. He learned about her story from strangers and that was it.
Am I the only one who was thinking Katherine was dead? When she was spoke about it was more in the past tense. Also, where was she??? We didn’t see her until the end. You would think she would be upset about her husband faking a heart attack just to be nosy. Flynn had also faked an injury to be seen so I guess this is just seen as normal.

Ahhh so so so disappointed in this book. I have read books by this author before and so I was expecting an entertaining book, I didn't that. I got an obnoxious hero, which to be honest he could have won my heart since he was military and hurt, but we didn't get that what we got was a whiny immature man. then we have Brook didn't like her either..

Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/20...

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m not a fan of Romance books featuring billionaires or even more richer people. I have had bad experiences with that genre, so I try to avoid it. Buuut those books usually have easy to the eye covers and I must admit I’m weak in front of a good steak, so I pick more of them than I should. This story is penned by Melody Anne. I have never read anything written by her, but looking at her work I thought she is a pro in the richer than life genre. I was eager to see what her secret formula was. I hope this book is not a good example of that, because the chemicals presented in Finn have made the metaphorical Erlenmeyer go boom. The worst part: it is not a sudden addition of a last minute reactive. Nope. We could see the cracks from almost the first chapter. Cracks that get wider and meaner along the book in a constant and unstoppable pace until the unavoidable messy ending.

In this book we meet the ex-soldier Finn at the same time he and his brothers discover they are related to the infamous billionaire Joseph Anderson. That old timer is a big fan of family and hard work, so he offers them to work in a project to build a center for veterans in a small town near Seattle. All of them accept (the five of them) and the brothers start right away with their plans to make the most of the opportunity they have been given. In that town we can also find the good nurse Brooke, an adrenaline junkie who is very independent and strong (take a note about that… it is hugely important). From there, boy meets girl and the rest you know how it goes…

If the first paragraph wasn’t clear enough, this book is bad. No way around it. Let’s focus first on the story or, better said, the lack of it. Why the hell this book has so many pages if the author barely uses a 10% to tell something? Reading this book has felt like one of Hercules labours, testing the limits of my will to keep awake while trying to make sense of the plot. At first I thought this was going to be about a guy with PTSD after his military life and an abusive father. But Finn looks perfectly OK. Then I thought Brooke’s brother death was related to the mission of Finn that went sideways, bringing a bit of drama to the relationship. But that only happened in my head, sadly. Finally, I was expecting a fight thanks to Finn’s wedsession (obsession to weddings… I’m coining it, because it is a very useful word for Romance reviews), bringing some spice to save me from the dull moments; but, once again, I was wrong. The book is boring. It doesn’t even try to entertain…

And the characters… WOW! I don’t know which ones should I mention first: the bad, the annoying or the infurating ones. Let’s start with Finn. Appart from his mandatory hunkiness, I can’t think of any other positive detail about him. I still don’t know what is his deal. He blames Joseph of imposing himself into his and his brother’s life, but he does the same with Brooke. Sorry, that’s a lie. Joseph is an amateur next to this guy. Finn behaves like a creepy stalker invading Brooke’s space every chance he gets and we are sold that that is a sexy behaviour. I’m not buying it. So far we have hypocrite and creepy. As if that weren’t enough, Finn is so obsessed with the nurse than, after 10 minutes of meeting her, he is already planning the wedding. Like seriously planning it, buying ring and all. Add mentally unbalanced to the list. Being so in love with her, obviously he gets violent the moment another man looks at her. With that we have possessive and violent. One of my favourites: he doesn’t want Joseph in his life, but will run to his side to ask him for a private jet to woo his soon to be wife (in his unstable mind, of course). I want to call him spoiled kid, but I know that wouldn’t be fair. I could keep going: he wanted unprotected sex since the first time (because he needed it… A good pair of scissors is what you really need, pal!!), his “I’m better than her, so I let her win” attitude…

Brooke is not a better character. It could have been, but the author neglects to develop her or to give her any kind of personality. No, saying over and over again she is a strong woman is not granting her a personality. If it were more than words, maybe, but in the end… she is a very weak woman who let’s everyone mold her thoughts and actions. The best example of that is when she discovers Finn’s wedsession (yeah, I’m keeping it). She is bluntly told by a total stranger that the ex-soldier is telling everyone they are getting married (without her say so…) and she doesn’t care! Not a single conversation about it. She just let it slide. It is your life, too!! Don’t let them plan it for you! Aren’t you such a strong woman? Stop being a sheep, then!!

With such terrible main couple, the romance is nauseating. Too bad, because the author is good with the naughty scenes, but I couldn’t connect with the characters and the result was unbearable. One is all about love and the other is all about sex. So incompatible. They were never in the same page and that makes the classic ending even more painful. A very looooooooong ending that felt like sandpaper rubbing my internal organs.

I could also whine a lot about the Anderson family members and their no so cute meddling acts. Get a hobby, you guys, and let everyone else in peace to do with their lives what they please! A wedding is not the ultimate goal in life. This is the XXI century…

Yeah, some readings are bad experiences. I never judge the style of an author after just one book, so I guess I will give it another chance sooner or later. It doesn’t look promising, though. I guess this kind of stories has its audience, but I’m far from it.

Finn

Let's start off by saying that I sure have missed Joseph Anderson. I wish we all had one of our very own, just like him. I'm so glad that Melody Anne was able to wrangle up some new Anderson relatives for us to read about and Joseph to play matchmaker with.
I adored Finn. Can't say I've enjoyed everything about a hero that much in a long time.
So looking forward to the next book in this set already.

This is a sweet military romance of insta-love and persistence to claim and hold on to that love. Finn and Brooke were both incredibly lovable and endearing characters.

Finn was instantly smitten with Brooke from the moment she took him down. Her independence and strength only intensifies his feelings for her. But a Brooke has only known love from one person in her life and now that he’s gone, she’s not eager to open herself up for that and risk losing it.

Im not sure if it was my frame of mind at the time I read this, but I had a hard time focusing on their story. No matter how many times I picked it up I found my mind wandering. My only issues was the speed of their story. It was just too slow to keep me engaged. Aside from that, I truly adored Finn and and Brooke. They were wonderfully relatable characters. It was just their story that felt drawn out.

Okay, so the story is actually a solid 3.5 read for me but better than 3 stars so that’s why you see 4 LOL There’s not a specific big thing in the story I can say that made it just an okay read for me, but I will say that Finn himself was a lot ! Like, eye twitching amounts LOL The concept of him was good but the execution was sooooooooooooo over the top that …. You get me so I’m moving on from him. The style of writing isn’t a bad one, but it’s not what I prefer. I tend to bore easily with a story if the characters are too introspective and for me, Brooke did entirely too much of that. Yes, the dual POV helped, but it’s just not my thing *shrug*

I know it sounds like I didn't enjoy this story, but that isn't the case. I just didn't love a lot of the execution and I'm hoping that it gets better with future books :)

Unfortunately, this lost me almost immediately with its cheesy, over the top feel. When the hero is declaring his intent to marry the heroine (and holding back his profession of love) around 10% of the way into the book (after around 10 minutes spent together), I can’t take the story seriously. I love a man who knows what he wants but this was just too much, which is disappointing because I was intrigued by the premise.

The story follows Finn, a former soldier who has recently been forced into retirement following an injury. He meets Brooke, the town doctor, while teaching a self defense class. She takes him by complete surprise by stealing the show - and his heart - within minutes of meeting her. What follows is Finn’s pursuit of Brooke; he will stop at nothing to get forever with her.

This has the foundation of a good book, but so many things threw it off course. Finn is the biggest problem for me - even his brothers think he’s acting crazy. He comes off as a little nuts and a lot cocky, coming up with a plan to win Brooke as his wife before he even knows if she’s single. While Brooke is probably acting rationally, when compared to Finn she really seems to be overly resistant to a relationship. The combination of the two made them both seem extreme, which made it difficult to root for Finn and Brooke. What did I like about the book? Who these characters are down to their core; they’re both likeable people out to do some good, and if the connection wasn’t so over the top, I think I would’ve enjoyed their story. This one is a miss for me, but I appreciated receiving an ARC from NetGalley. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Disappointing

I was excited to read this book by Melody Anne. I have read all of the other books in the Anderson series and was looking forward to the next installment. Sadly this novel was a disappointment. Somehow Joseph Anderson learns that his miserable late uncle has five sons and naturally he wants to bring these "nephews" into the family. This will give Joseph five more chances to meddle in his nephew's love life. The brothers were raised by their abusive father that died when they were young and their hardworking mother that taught them to be good men. Joseph creates this project of building a facility to help veterans and each of the brothers are involved in the project.

Finn is the oldest and a former Navy Seal. An injury ended his career in the military (what kind of injury it was is unclear because he doesn't seem to have any lingering problems from it). He meets Brooke when he was teaching a self defense class. Brooke was a medic in the military and came to the class to make sure Finn was qualified to teach it. For Finn it was love at first sight. The rest of book is about Finn trying to convince Brooke to love him. Brooke's father left when she was a little girl. Her mother is a drug addict, and her brother was killed while serving in the military. All of this made Brooke someone afraid of committment. Finn patiently waits for Brooke to work through her issues. Finn is to perfect to be believed and Brooke is just annoying most of the time.

These characters were annoying. She can’t commit, can’t love even though they spend every night together? He can’t give an inch on feelings for his “uncle” who has given him an inheritance and a fulfilling job? I couldn’t commit either. I gave up on the book about 60% through. Pretty sure it could have been at the climax by then if both Finn and Brooke weren’t so annoying. There’s hard headed and independent and then there’s just stupid.

Shaking my head!

The beginning of the story seemed interesting but as the book progressed I got lost along the way. Zero story, lots of sex. The writing style was not to my liking. I think the author should have stopped with the last set of Andersens No need to prolong the torture. I would not be reading any more books in this series. Too predictable.

I just couldn't warm up to the characters. Finn in particular was really frustrating. Faking injuries to be able to spend time with the heroine who repeatedly turned him down? Not for me.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is a new series, but intrinsically linked with the previous Anderson stories ... so if you have read them, be ready for Joseph Anderson and his meddling ways - although to be honest in this case there is no need for him to intervene at all. I did like that Melody Anne had managed to wangle a whole five more bachelors ready for an HEA - although it seemed incredible that they had been local all this time and Joseph had not found them before now!

Finn is the eldest brother, and he is very skeptical of the new family that has suddenly come into their lives - and not all that keen, given that they are related to his truly awful father. It takes him a long time to trust them, even when everything good is laid before him. As he and his brothers band together to make a success of the project that they have been offered, he learns what being an Anderson can mean. I might add he takes some of the perks quite happily, as they benefit his mission to gain Brooke's undying love!

His single-mindedness in her pursuit is by times almost stalkerish, although he does promise that if she truly weren't interested he would back off - not sure just how far she would have to go to make that clear!

There is quite a lot of world-building going on, which sometimes can be a little distracting, but will no doubt pay off in future installments ... and there are plenty of hints as to who might be involved already.

A very sweet, low angst, plenty of chemistry and passion kind of romance. I am looking forward to the Veterans' centre being open rather than just being built.

4.5 Finntastic Stars 🌟

Okay, so firstly I’d like to say I haven’t read the previous Anderson stories by Melody but I have read one or two of her previous books in a series with other authors and enjoyed them. Recently, I found Noah as an ARC and found myself going through the Amazon store and found Finn at a ridiculously good price....and here we are❣️

Finn is a military veteran who was injured on his last tour. When him and his brothers meet with “the” Joseph Anderson and it’s revealed they are a part of his family and he’d like them to participate in a project he has lined up...Finn is wary😕Suffice to say Finn arrives in town and gets taken down a notch by their resident doctor Brooke and it’s love at first sight for him😍 But she’s not convinced😢

A really good story and I’m looking forward to reading more of the Anderson books and these newly discovered Anderson crew too❤️

M/F Romance
Triggers: Death
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Brooke has lost a lot in her life. We meet her after a terrible loss, but she's trying to pick up and keep moving forward. She is a tough woman who is fiercely independent and loves her life. She isn't swayed easily by a pretty face or sweet words and I really loved her friends.

Finn is coming to grips with a forced retirement. He is also having to deal with some long lost family coming in to his life. Finn isn't a trusting person, with the exception of his brothers. Finn isn't quite sure what to make of Joseph coming back in to his life and offering an amazing project to him and his brothers, but he wants to try and make his brothers happy, so he goes all in.

Finn's taken aback when Brooke puts him on his butt, literally, in front of a ton of women during a self defense class. His attitude that he's met the woman he's going to marry is over the top, but it's also what endears him to the reader in the book. Brooke is trying very hard to overcome her trauma too. She wants to continue to build her own family, but is also scared of losing more people.

This book was about letting people who love you in and learning to let go of the past and move forward. It's a cute story about finding something and going after it, whether it's the love of your life or family you want to forge a relationship with. I am really looking forward to Finn's brothers and Brooke's friends getting their own stories.

The Andersons are back with long lost cousins in tow.
Finn is the oldest of 5 brothers who grew up lacking a father figure. Finn, a born leader has stepped up to fill the role for his brothers but there exists a void for him. Enter the meddling, determined but always lovable Joseph Anderson. A chance is given to the 5 brothers all with different skills to work together on a project of high caliber and expectations.
Love is never far behind with Joseph Anderson in the picture, here in the form of nurse practitioner Brooke and her besties Sarah and Chloe There has been loss in Brooke’s life as fear sets in where there was once love. Love can’t dictated nor denied as Brooke and Finn soon find out - HOT, SEXY, INSATIABLE
Through perseverance, and patience love is given a chance. “You couldn’t love a person with everything you had without utter devastation at losing them.”
Finn is a true leader as he knows when to lead and when to take heed as he follows his heart.

A new series and a new set of Andersons - and written by Melody Anne - it couldn’t get better. But it does! This new romance series begins with Finn’s story. Newly retired Navy Seal is adjusting not only to civilian life, he finds out that is part of the famous wealthy Anderson family. Reeling from that news, he also meets Brooke Garrison. Both feeling loss in their lives, find a bond.
I could definitely relate to Brooke’s feelings, losing her only brother. Yet she had the strength to pull herself together and even help Finn.
Melody writes from her heart bringing her humor and real life with each page.

Full disclosure: I DNFed at 70% so I can't speak for the end of the book; these are my impressions up to that point.

I wanted to like this book. It sounded like two veterans connect and find love with each other, overcoming one's tragedy together. Unfortunately, what I got instead was Insta-Love, stalking, meddling secondary characters, and a complete lack of tension.

Finn was just... meh. Within ten minutes of meeting her, he's determined that he's going to marry her and sets out to help her realize that he's the man for her... with some light stalking. He injures himself (by way of his brothers) to coerce his way into her exam room, pushes into her home, and pursues her relentlessly. It's not romantic--it's creepy.

For her part, Brooke was annoyingly repetitive. Her constant denial of liking Finn, much less dating him, was wearing. I'm personally also over the trope of tiny girl, huge guy, which made me predisposed to being irked with her. She had some smug, superior moments that were just as irritating as Finn's, beginning with their first meeting when she showed up just long enough to knock him down, then left knowing that she'd done her part to ensure the women of her small town had a competent self-defense instructor. (Incidentally, the classes were never mentioned again, aside from an off-hand reference to his working with battered women. I never did understand why he was teaching it in the first place.)

I never could keep the secondary characters straight, and I hated Joseph. Hated. Meddling families are not my thing at all, and his taking a leaf from Finn's book and falsifying a health concern to meet Brooke so he could grill her about her relationship was distasteful.

What really made me DNF, though, was that I was just... so... bored. There was no sense of tension between the characters or in the plot. It was just a string of POV changes in which Finn fixated on getting her to accept his eventual proposal and Brooke fixated on her angst and denying that she felt anything for Finn. Even the sex scenes were lackluster; I honestly skimmed most of them after the first because I had no sense of chemistry between the characters to make them interesting. Corny dialogue was just the icing on the cake--people just don't speak like these characters, not without a serious flair for drama.

Altogether, this just was not the book for me. I wish I'd been able to make it to the end given I'd made it as far as I did, but the thought of reading another hour of it was making me avoid picking up my Kindle--a good sign that it was time to give it a pass.

Reading a Military story by my favorite Author of all time was like winning the lottery!! I have over 30 members of my family either past, or current members of each of the branches of the military. Thus my love of Any Military story, and especially Family Military Stories!! Melody Anne, presents the story to you in a believable fashion , so you feel like you are there and watching it progress in real time. Her stories feel so real, that you really want to meet the characters. I like the fact that this character is flawed and can't sweep the lady of his desire off her feet without fibbing and doing what real people do, Make Mistakes!! Veterans carry the burden of the battle long after the war is over and it makes them unable at times to trust. In this story Finn can't relate to "The famous and wealthy Joseph Anderson Family" or trust Joseph the Patriarch. And Joseph is determined to play "Match Marker" in not just Finn's life, but in his brothers too!! It's not your typical Hunk meets Girl; Girl falls for Hunk Story. Sit Back and Savor and Enjoy as Melody Weaves the Story to the End.. and leaves you wanting more...

Comments may be construed as spoilers. I tried to like the book. I just couldn’t force myself to like Brooke. She had way too negative of an outlook on her life and world around her, even when accounting for her grief. The way Finn kept chasing her and touting her as amazing when all she did was treat him badly! I just couldn’t get with that program. And then there were parts where you’re like “how is she commenting on that when he never told her about it” or vise versa. And there were several scenes where u thought it was just starting at end of a chapter and next chapter would be 3 days or a week or a month later. There was also a lot of drawn out inner monologues for both characters where i found my self saying, get on with it already and stop “thinking” about it! The flow was just not there for me.

It had been three months since the bomb had ended Finn’s military career and he was dealing with the repercussions of the incident. For a man of action having any limiting whatsoever was something very hard for him to swallow. He went to the hall he been summoned too but he was happy to see his brother Noah there. Noah said he didn’t know what this was about but he was told it was important. Brandon another of Finn’s brothers and the comedian of the family came in. Than Crew and Hudson walked in. All five brothers were there. Finn was the oldest brother. Than Joseph Anderson filled the door of the conference room. The brothers wondered what the man who was basically royalty wanted with them. He owned half of Seattle’s businesses, provided ten of thousands of jobs, donated ten of millions of dollars. Each year, and ran many charity organizations. On top of that he was a family man. There were rumors he meddled, but noone had anything bad to say about Joseph Anderson. Joseph told the men their father had been his uncle. He said he took them away and they weren’t able to find the brothers. He also said their mother had called him on her deathbed , apologizing and explaining it all to him. That meant they were his family. He said he had an inheritance for them . their mother didn’t have much, but her wishes for them was to have a family and a true start in life. He didn’t believe in just handing something over, it has to be earned. Money comes and goes but in the end family is their legacy. He added “You’re my family and i want to know you. So I’ve come up with a project that we can work together. That means we can get to know each other and I get five new additions to my already beautiful family. I know you might need some time to think about this and I'm okay with that as well. You’re Andersons which means you’re stubborn as hell, but it also means I know you’ll make the right decision.” He added he wasn’t going to pry right than. They could meet at his place in three days once they’d had time to process this. He said here’s the project and his address. He looked forward looked forward to speaking more to them. But it was all of them or none as it was a family project. Finn is sin shock. He thought they were all alone in the world. Finding he had a large family threw him for a loop. Even though their father had been a monster, their mother had raised them with values, integrity, and morality. Noah said Joseph didn’t need them in his life so maybe he did want to get to know them if he’s putting this much effort to come up with a project. The brothers reached for the files and opened them. If they had known the storm that was descending on them, they might have run from that room without ever laying a finger on the folders Joseph had given them. Being the eldest, Finn had the most memories of hsi deadbeat, alcoholic, selfish father who had abused his wife and children , and hadn’t known the meaning of the word love. Finn wasn’t sure he wanted to know this family and he didn’t trust Joseph Anderson. When they got to Joseph’s house he said he wanted to know why Joseph was doing this. He didn’t know them. He didn’t owe them anything. Why was he creating this massive [project that just so happened to fit all their careers? Joseph answered he believed in family. He also believed in hard work. He didn’t just pull the project out of the seat of his pants. It’s something very special to his katherine. When he discovered he had five nephews there was no one better for the job. Finn knew his brother wanted to do the project so he said okay, he thought they were up to the task. Brooke wasn’t your typical anything. She’d been called many things but never boring, never ordinary, and never girlie. She took pride in who she was, what she had accomplished and what she was still capable of achieving. She had grown up tough with her big brother Jack, who she had idolized. But she had just lost him in the military three months ago. She had fallen apart when the soldiers came to her door to tell her. But at least she knew he had been proud of her. Brooke was now lost. She wasn’t sure how to survive without her best friend, her coach, her family, her heart and soul. She wasn’t sure she wanted to be happy in a world where Jack didn’t exist anymore. Her town was small and she loved it. But if the rumors were true it was going to turn into a media circus. The Andersons had bought a huge parcel of land north of town and were beginning a massive project for veterans. She didn’t want the circus, but she was all for doing anything involving veterans. She was a veteran herself. There was no way she couldn’t be involved. Brooke stopped in the Martial Arts School and said she had to make sure her patients were being taught self defense correctly. Finn was there and the teacher and eh said he had seventeen years in the military. He said he would use her to show some self defense moves. Before he knew it she had him on the floor and though he reversed her hold he was completely surprised such a petite woman did that. He told his brothers later he was going to marry Brooke.
I enjoyed this book. Brooke and finn had hot chemistry. I loved Brooke and finn together and how they interacted. I really liked that Brooke helped Finn. I think they both were in insta/love at first not love, especially Finn. I loved how Joseph was rich but very much a humanitarian and really treasured family. He wanted his whole family in love start their own family. I loved the double POVs so you could know what both main characters were feeling when they were feeling it. My heart broke for Brooke losing her only family - her beloved brother. I loved Brooke had such a couple great friends since middle school. I really liked the plot and the pace. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

I just couldn't

I got this book because it was on the 'read and listen' and I have never had to force myself to listen to something, but with this book I really had to try. It just automatically started off with my rolling me eyes. I live the whole idea behind it and then wanting to help out vets etc, but come on!

I am just not a instalove typa person, but usually I can handle it. I just don't know.

I also prefer different POV chapters so I don't think that helped either

Audio - DNF - and that rarely happens for me.

I hated the writing style here. It’s so frustrated. “He said, she said”, etc. why do authors do that. It’s even worse in audio.

There was not a lot of chemistry here. He fell in love with her immediately. No real development. I don’t like the long lost uncle scenario. Just wasn’t for me.

An average insta-love cheesy book that seems to have been written by a Melody Anne in a rush.

[Did a really quick revisit before going on with the rest of the series now that I have KU till the 28th. Nothing changed, just updated the "read" date (Oct' 19 to Feb'21)}
