This was a pretty good book... Definitely captured my attention from the beginning and the storyline just kept building and pulling me in... There was points in this book that I could not stop reading... There was a little bit of everything in here... Jealousy, Lies, Cheating, Rape, Murder, Snitching, no good mothers and a messed up system ... So this book will keep you entertained... I felt bad for Chynera... She just could not catch a break... She kept getting these no good men in her life... And was raised by a mother that just didn't care... Just when it looked like she could possibly get her life back on track... Her ex pulls this on her... Then she gets the short end of the stick for what he did... I mean come on why were they punishing the victim... She just kept going from one bad situation to another... She thought she could go back home to try and get back on her feat and to escape what just happened to her only to be violated in the worse way and her mother was okay with this... I was so hurt for Chynera... She finally decided to just get away from it all with no destination in mind... This was where she had her chance meeting with Jag... Jag took her under her wing and helped her to get back on her feet... She was able to help her get a job... Yes it may not have been the job that Chynera may have wanted to do but it was all that she had being offered to her at the time and she was desperate... So she gave in... Little did she know how much this decision would change her life and what people would cross her path or the lust and envy that would come her way from this... Shad also had a rough life growing up... But he did not let him break him... He used all of it to his advantage... And look at where he is now because of it... He had a bad relationship with a woman named Symone and from that point on... He no longer wanted to have another relationship... No woman could distract him from his goal... Women constantly kept throwing themselves at him... Yet he always shut it down... That was until one job helped him in more ways than one... Raphael was the man... He had all this money and had so many businesses that just kept bringing in more money than he could imagine Yet he was gready... So he did what ever he had to in order to make sure that his money was not snatched from him... But really... I mean he already had so much money... Why did he feel he needed more... Although he takes very good care of everyone on his team... I can't stand how cocky he is... It irks me... Then he is so use to everyone bending over backwards and trying to be in his presence... But one day the moment he laid eyes on Chynera things changed... I mean he finally became obsessed with someone that he could not have... Because let's face it... Women were a dime a dozen with him... He could have any woman he wanted without even having to put in any work... But with Chynera, she became his challange... But wait... He is married so why is he trying so hard to have Chynera... Well little does he know... He is not the only one that has eyes for Chynera... I mean his competition is right in front of him... Just when Chynera starts to let her guard down... Her past keeps haunting her and little things began to push her over the edge emotionally... She is also dealing with these feelings that she keeps having when she us around Shad... But from the looks of things Raphael will do everything in his power to make sure no one and I mean no one can have Chynera but him... He is willing to even kill if he has to... But wait... Did Raphael and his wife really just make this deal... Man... I can't wait to see how this all plays out... Will Chynera and Shad even have a shot at happiness with Raphael and his wife plotting on them... Who will come out on top... Will Shad be able to really open up to Chynera and let her know the deal with him...
Held my attention from beginning to end and I couldn't put it down. Enjoyed the storyline, plot and these characters. Flowed really well and moved at a steady pace. The storyline kept getting better and better and kept drawing me in. This story was full of lies, secrets, jealousy, cheating and murder then throw in the snakes made a good read. Chynera, had endured so much and couldn't catch a break. Shad, took no mess from anyone and had been through a lot. Raphael, was the man and got it anyway he can and by any means necessary. Him and Symone are scandalous. Hopefully, Shad and Chynera will get it together, but with those two plotting who knew. Can't wait to see what happens next. Good job Taye Storm.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and the storyline was easy to follow and interesting. Unfortunately for me, the cliffhanger/ending/reintroduction to part two should have ended with a little more of a jaw dropping/ excitement for anticipation for what’s to come in part two. Little side note to author, although some authors do it, I personally find it to be redundant... a scene happened with two people, to me I don’t find it necessary to repeat that scene through the other person’s eye unless there was something different..but that could be written as ‘ when that person expressed that I said/thought/did.....’ Regardless, the book was good, engaging and enjoyable. Let’s see how this wraps up. Good job!
I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did but nonetheless I did enjoy the story. No matter how hard Chynera tried staying in her own lane, it always seemed to backfire on her. Her mother was a sorry excuse and to know how far she allowed things to go proved she didn't deserve a daughter like Chynera. I don't like Raphael or Symone one bit. Raphael is playing on those who find themselves in need and Symone was just worthless. I really like Shad and hoping he can remove Chynera as well as himself from the toxic situation they're currently in. I can only imagine what will happen if Shad's identity was ever revealed and just how he'll go about to put a stop to not only Raphael's but Symone's shenanigans as well.
From the start of this one Chynera takes one hit after the other. On the other side Shadow aka Shad takes no prisoners. One person is trying to escape, while the other is trying to infiltrate a corrupt operation. Raphael puts the CREE in creep. His ruthlessness has no boundaries. The story moved at a good pace and it had me drawn in.
Shad and Chynera are some strong characters, dealing with heavy hitting stuff. Their chemistry is organic, but they get in their own way. Besides, Giovanni thinks he will be the one to be Chy's knight in shining armor. However, he just wants to get what's being withheld- her and her sex-while she craves what she never had... real love.
Please tell me that I didn't just read this book in 2 days now I gotta wait for Part 2. I am real mad with myself right about now. It's sad when you have an ain't shit mammie. Folks need to realize that it's some deadbeat women too. Like I can't even wrap my mind around that situation.
Wow, I was not expecting such an abrupt ending. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the book. It grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it the end. I look forward to to reading more about Shad and Chynera. I hope things get better for her. Good job, Taye Storm.
