In 1949, two newspaper columnists, Adelaide Rose and her father, Oscar, move into an old house that fronts a mysterious forest and a small cemetery with all of the tombstones absent of death dates. Eerie sightings, tragic findings and tales of those who went into the woods and never returned, haunt them. With the help of the gazette editor and their distant neighbor on a grand estate, Willoughby Jones, they sift through the grim history of the house. While trying to understand the dark nature of the original owners, they must hurry to solve the past before they are the next ones to vanish.

What an incredible and wonderfully written story! As is always true of Bambi Harris' books, I had such clear pictures in my mind of all the characters, the scenery, the eerie woods, and even of her loveable dog, Errol. I felt as though I were right there, and I sat in suspense as Adelaide and her companions investigated the mysteries of the past, which in turn helps them survive the present. This book has mystery, suspense, a little romance, and an accurate portrayal of life for Adelaide in 1949. There were times that I quite literally sat on the edge of my seat and couldn't read fast enough to find out what was going to happen next, and wow, the ending is suberb! This is definitely one of Bambi Harris' best!!
