The war against the agents of the Long Night rages on, and the casualties are piling up. In the waning days of humanity, even the most trusted of allies may not be as reliable as they seem.
The Long Night takes a frightening real-world situation and asks a simple question: "what if?" In a world that is increasingly connected, corporations have more information about us than ever before. A fictional extension on what has actually started happening in our society, the Lee Corporation's Bonesware health monitoring implants were supposed to keep us healthy and safe - until they didn't. Now, with over ninety percent of the civilized world dead over the course of a night, the few who remain must try to survive.
The Long Night is a collaborative work between Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus. A unique take on the apocalypse and on the post-apocalyptic genre, The Long Night will be a 6-part series of full-length novels released once per month.
I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.
Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.
Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.
They’ve Traveled Far! Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2024 Well Solly has finally went to find his family. Not knowing where to look he heads for Texas. Each person has grown some for the better and some for worse! Trying to help the military they travel to certain areas. I’ve really enjoyed this story. What’s to come? Can’t wait to find out.
As the series goes on like many others it gets drawn out. I'm not getting the next book in series as I just got bored and had enough. It felt they just was filling pages and to milk the series for all it can.
No character is safe, whether it be from betrayal or death. Slowly but surely the unknowns are being revealed, but there are still a few major challenges that need to be faced before Solly and the rest of the survivors can breathe easy.
This book, like the others in the series is very short. There is some plot development here, especially for Solly. We are back to have two of the story lines now on different coasts again.
Betrayed the fifth book in the Long Night series serves a twofold purpose. Along with keeping the story moving as each group goes their way to seek answers, this episode provides a deeper understanding of several characters as well as providing a more detailed backstory to the Long Dark event. Once again, the story is filled with plenty of action scenes as well as elements of intrigue that give the reader pause to consider whose side to be on and what the side’s motivation might be. There were parts of this story that had me silently cheering the characters on, and then there were a few parts where I wanted to reach out and choke the characters. I can’t say Betrayed is my favorite of the series, but it is in a dead heat for that honor.
