Do-Over #0.5

Little Miss Perfect

Rate this book
Ten years ago, my high school crush found me during senior finals week in the student parking lot with my car decorated with items you find behind a drugstore counter and a "Most Likely to..." banner that would make a pro blush.

And by "pro," I don't mean golf.

In under an hour, everything I knew about myself was turned upside down and inside out, just as our high school career was in its final hours.

Then again, he's the high school quarterback. He's used to performing when the clock's running out.

Me? I perform well under pressure, too.

But not when Will Lotham is about to kiss me.

Or is he?

Little Miss Perfect is a prequel to the events that take place in Fluffy, New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent's new book. It can be read on its own, without having read Fluffy.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 5 New York Times bestsellers and more than 21 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French, German, and Italian, with more titles releasing in the future.

From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire in a rom com).

She also writes romantic suspense as Meli Raine, sexy shifter romances as DJ Jennings, billionaire shifters as half of the author team Diana Seere, and co-authors with Elisa Reed.

She lives in New England with her husband and three children in a household where she is the only person with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

This was a cute prequel... I've already read the first book, but it was nice to get that scene of their start!

This is a Romance, and this is the .5 book in the Do-Over series. This is only really only 70 pages long. I wanting to read this before starting Do-Over series, but I do not understand why this was even written because there is nothing really in it. Just the girl in high school and her major crush talking right before they take their finals.

Audiobook review. Mallory and Will are classmates who don’t realize the possibilities of what could be until the very last day of school. I enjoyed this short prequel because that moment meant different things to each of them but served as a catalyst for change in both of them. Mallory’s self esteem was a little lacking but what high school girl doesn’t go through that. Excellent set up for Fluffy.

Erin Mallon’s narration was absolutely perfect. She has one of the best “male” voices I’ve heard and her transitions are smooth.

Complementary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.

So freaking cute!

Now it makes sense to see what actually happened while they were in high school. Instead of just going by what happened in their actual book. Lowkey laughed so hard at my desk during the whole dildo scene. Oh lord, no idea how I couldn't keep a straight face while telling people about it either.

Other than that, it was cute but I liked Mallory and Will's actual book a bit more. It was interesting though and nice prequel to them entering into each other's lives once again.

I heard the audio sample of Fluffy on the Story Bites podcast and needed to know more about the book ASAP. When I went to buy Fluffy I saw Little Miss Perfect was a prequel, so I had to start at the very beginning. This was a great intro to Fluffy and I can’t wait to start reading the rest!

This is a background story that introduces the characters in a later book. I like background stories. I think it brings the characters to life.
This is a cute story. Not among my top favs because the heroine has so little self esteem. Granted high school is tough and there are cliques. But sometimes I weary of the trop of the young girl who doesn't see how beautiful she is and only the handsome popular guy sees her.

Little Miss Perfect is a short and funny prequel to Fluffy. It introduces us to Will, Mallory, and her friends, and takes place on the last day of their senior year in high school. Will and Mallory share a stolen moment in the parking lot before their last final exam, and they realize that there's much more to the other than they thought. It's sweet and all kinds of teenage awkward as these two dance around each other. It just scratches the surface of who these characters are, and though it's not necessary to listen to/read this prior to Fluffy, it does add a fun extra layer to the story.

The novella is told entirely from Mallory's POV and Erin Mallon couldn't have been more perfectly cast. She captures Mallory's quirkiness, vulnerability, and confusion so well, but also does an amazing job voicing Will. She is one of the few narrators who I enjoy hearing both her male and female voices.

I'm excited to find out what happens to Will and Mallory 10 years later in Fluffy!

Little Miss Perfect is such a tease. Little Miss Perfect serves a prequel to Fluffy. It focuses on how the two characters of Fluffy meet during high school. It is extremely cute and features incredible writing and characters. This story, unfortunately, contains no smut, but it sets up the next novel perfectly. I dare you not to want to pick up Fluffy after reading this.

Cute!

I read this after reading Fluffy, but it would have been a bit better to read it before. It was nice seeing the basis of Will and Mal’s relationship, especially since high school Will sets up so many of adult Mal’s assumptions.

A Short Hilarious prequel!

So I started this series by reading feisty & now that I want to read it from the start, what better way to start than a prequel?

The time line is When All the gang were in highschool. Finals.
This story includes the scene when Will holds a Real Conversation with Mallory after she spent crushing on him for 4yrs.

The 'Most likely to be a pornstar' AND giant dildo scene were laugh out loud!

Their interaction was cute! A punch to the gut for her (good+bad kind!)

Mallory is so smart! I'm off to read her story with Will❤.

Little Miss Perfect by Julia Kent is the Prequel to Fluffy that I listened to on audio narrated by Erin Mallon. This is the first book of Julia’s that I have read and can’t wait to dive into Fluffy next. The story is very relatable to any girl who had that secret crush on the popular boy at school. Erin did a great job narrating and using different voices for Will and Mallory. I can’t wait to hear more from her in Fluffy.

WICKEDLY CUTE!!!
Title: Little Miss Perfect
Author: Julia Kent
My Rating: Four Wickedly Cute Stars****
I adore Julia Kent as an author and literally devour everything she writes. It always makes me laugh, which in turn always makes me feel better, and Little Miss Perfect was no exception! This adorably funny short story introduces Mallory and Will, the two protagonists of Kent's newest romantic comedy, Fluffy, and takes place 10 years in the past, with both characters as seniors competing against the other to be class valedictorian. And the competition is fierce, along with the typical senior pranks! Yup, been there! Except I wasn't voted most likely to become a porn star! lol... No spoilers from me! You'll just have to read the book! This delicious little prelude between Mallory and Will can be read as a prequel to Fluffy. In this reviewer's humble opinion, Little Miss Perfect is not a standalone and should only be read in conjunction with Fluffy. It will certainly give you a taste of what's to come between these two former complete opposite high school rivals: shy, super-smart, nerdy, good girl vs wealthy, success-driven football hero/prom king! No spoilers from me, but I will say it's hilarious!

So, did I like Little Miss Perfect? You bet! Would I recommend it? Absolutely! It's well written, as always, and wickedly cute, but I recommend reading it only as a prequel to Fluffy. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I can hardly wait to read the rest of Will and Mallory's story!

(audiobook+ebook) It’s a prequel novella, so of course, it was short. But the style and mood are already here. It’s funny, quirky, and being in Mal’s head is an eventful ride.

I loved that this prequel was just a moment frozen in time, where two people who have nothing in common, who are basically academic rivals–and with one pining for the other–have a meaningful conversation. Interrupted by weird friends and ‘colorful’ events.

The narrator brings Mallory’s exuberant character to life, and masters the pace and voice for the comedic elements.

An interesting beginning for this series.

Quickie

- Series: The do-over #0.5 (prequel to the series)
- Hashtags: #romcom #novella #new adult romance #opposites attract #unrequited feelings
- Triggers: N/A
- Main couple: Mallory Monahan & Will Lotham
- Hotness: 1/5 (some tension, but it’s clean)
- Romance: 3/5
- + a beautiful moment of connection between two people who are rivals
- – much too short, thankfully their story continues in the first book of the series

Audiobook Review:
Little Miss Perfect captured my attention with its cover's beautiful graphics & it's cute title, so I had to listen to it. A fun snappy prevue to Fluffy. I'm super excited to listen to Fluffy to find out what happens next with Mallory and Will 10 years later. An intro glimpse into the characters in a perfect way with bubbly banter. I'm charmed by Will and looking forward to finding out what's beneath the surface as it seems their is much more to Will than meets the eye. I fancy the entertaining, sweet & humorous writing style.

Erin Mallon is the perfect choice to narrate this series. Her performance was perfect. She is able to pull off male voices with just the right tones, as well as differentiate between female & male characters voices. She brought out the characteristics of the characters in a way that is realistic.

Looking forward to listening to Fluffy and escaping to this cosmos for a little while.

Prank and Crush

Julia Kent Do-Over bk 0.5 Little Miss Perfect

Mallory is very much out of her element when put in proximity to her long-time crush, Will Lotham. This is cute, awkward, and really funny.

Will: “I'm fine.”

Mallory: “But is the animal fine? Poor thing must have been traumatized. I would be, if I found myself trapped in a small space with some guy's penis.”

I was disappointed at the lack of heat, I mean, not even a kiss, but I'm hoping that this prequel is showing her innocence and not a predictor of things to come. That said, the bit with the purple... personal massager 🍆... is definitely worth reading this novella.

I read and listened to the audio book. The narrator is Erin Mallon. I think she was great. The snark, innocence, and envying else sounded through.

Story: 3.5 stars
Narration: 4 stars

I read this because of the upcoming release of Fluffy and I really liked having the extra background on Will, Mallory, and Gang. I felt that it made Fluffy make more sense. I was able to easily identify with Mallory in this story. I saw a lot of myself in her! Will came across as very endearing, and I couldn't wait to see what had happened to them both! It's not a true standalone story, but it is one definitely worth reading!

This is a cute little flashback that helps understand the history of events for Fluffy better. It highlights an event that is constantly referenced throughout Fluffy. I do agree that this book can be read without reading Fluffy, but I strongly encouraged reading both. I only wish that they could have highlighted a little more of the past. That would have been nice to read.

The narrator was the same in this book as Fluffy. She did a terrific job in this one. I was shocked I got through it so fast. One moment I started the book and the next thing I know my boyfriend is home and the book is finished. I'm glad I read this book and Fluffy. I enjoyed both very much.

Perfect set up for the next novel!

I decided to revisit the rest of this series since Hasty came out last week.

This is the prequel to the series. It not only introduces us to Mallory and her best friends but it also sets things up for the first novel in the series, Fluffy.

OMG, it is hilarious!!! But then that is part of what Julia does best.

Erin is one of my favorite narrators and this was an awesome listen. Now I'm chomping at the bit to continue on to Fluffy.

Does anyone else have a super hard time rating novellas? Especially prequel novellas? After finishing the fourth book in the series earlier this week, I decided I should go back and close it out by finishing this prequel novella. I enjoyed the extra look inside the backstory of Mallory and Will. I wouldn't consider this a standalone, though. But if you've been a fan of the series OR if you're thinking about reading it, you should add this novella to your TBR. It was a super quick read.

The audio for this is short and sweet, only a little over an hour. I decided to do this before reading Fluffy. It definitely gave me a little insight to the characters that are coming up and how they met or knew each other. This is more of a small novella to give you some back story more than anything, but it is worth reading/listening to. It definitely made me giggle.

This is a short prequel to Fluffy and it's so cute. We meet Will and Mallory in senior year of high school. We get some insight into teenage Mallory and it's perfectly awkward and cute.

Erin Mallon is the perfect choice for narration. She delivers the humor and quirkiness perfectly.

While it's not essential to read this before Fluffy, I recommend it to get a feel for the characters. It leaves me eager to see what happens 10 years later.

The dreams we make when we are innocents....
This is a prequel Young Adult novella about two young individuals who aim for the stars and dream about making it big in life while in their final year of Senior High School where everything seems attainable. Cute, flirty banter, hilarious situations and a need for more is what this prequel is all about. 5 Needy Stars for "Little Miss Perfect" which has me begging for the follow up novel!

Little Miss Perfect states it is the prequel for another book, so I read it realizing it would only be that start of a story. I was not disappointed in that it showed typical high school interactions and all the social structure that high school students are vest into and at the time seems so very important. The author gave an honest look at this social strata with lots of humor mixed into the situations.

Little Miss Perfect made a good short story full of humor and just the right amount of true feelings for the age of the characters. The next part of the story is set ten years later and it will be fun to see how they have matured and what has happened to them in the ten years since high school.
