The Seven

Rate this book
Do you remember Thursday's child, Friday's child and the rest? That's who the Seven are, all with individual special abilities which are related to their own day of birth. How do they interact with those who aren't part of their special group? And what do those normal humans think about the Seven?

Thursday's child has far to go. But how far will she go to protect the other members of the Seven?

Would you want to have the ability to heal, just like Friday's child, who is loving and giving? And what happens when Wednesday's child is full of woe?

Do they all have to stay together - and alive - for all their abilities to work properly?

And what happens when one of the Seven seems to be determined to control - or worse - the remaining six members of the group?

All it takes is two words: "It's Sunday."

This renewed and remastered celebration of the fifth anniversary is a very clever telling of The Seven. I was pleasantly surprised, as it’s not my typical genre of reading. However, the story flowed very easily for me and I never lost interest! I loved the character development and Thursday should have her own book! ;) I loved Thursday!
This book will keep you entertained and challenge your thinking in all the best ways! I was very happy to give this Wooden Edition five stars! Very well done, Erin!

This book was such an unusual ride, filled with action right from the start.
I liked how we started off, like diving into an action movie.
This adventurous ride takes us along with a group of friends, found family, with mystical powers relating to their respective soul day.

But mind you, if you're looking for a happy ending, then this one is not for you. It's a wild ride but one that will break your heart.

So the story goes that, It's been almost a decade now that all the Seven were together and now the five of them come together to rescue Thursday before, their enemy and the seventh member of their group succeeds in taking her.

Finn is Friday and he's the healer;
Matthew, Monday can change appearances so fast even before you can blink;
Whitney, Wednesday, is the one with the fire power except when she's upset, then it's all ice cold;
Sybil, their leader, is Saturday;
Titus for Tuesday and the deranged and unhinged one, who was once a friend but now has become a foe because of his greed and selfishness is Sunday's child, Sawyer.

Thursday was such a crazy one even when she's all locked up in the Asylum and with no defence to her safety.
She's the one who doesn't think before she'll attack you and has a sense of humor that will leave you shocked.

I have to say though that after a time, I started liking Thursday's brand of crazy and her untimely crack of jokes and sarcasm.

Sawyer wants to own each of the members of the seven and take their power for his own.
As our six are on the run, we have this wild ride where a step wrong can lead them straight to danger and they have to be utterly vigilant and careful in their quest to find answers and do their best in keeping themselves from getting captured.

I loved this ride throughout, with all the magical powers and race against time adventure and the constant danger yet them surviving and fighting at every turn, had me engrossed.

Until that ending.... Honestly, I was beyond shocked and it broke my heart so much.
I genuinely enjoyed the magic, the camaraderie between the Seven (except the evil Sawyer, who's the villain).
But I didn't see that ending coming nor did I think it would be anywhere like that. Definitely an action packed ride but don't expect a victorious ending.

With fun, queer characters that have more depth than I realized, a hateable villain, and a unique twist on a flavor of "superheroes" and superpowers, The Seven is a dark yet exciting romp into the lives of people all just trying to do their best with the gifts they've been given. It's easy to read, and with an ending that leaves the story open for a sequel, I do wish there would be more books about these characters both individually and together. I find that there's a LOT here that could be explored!

I do have to say, though, that where the characters' personalities soared, their intelligence, at times, waned, which is part of why this ended up with a mid-rating. There were a few instances when I felt as if there was an obvious answer in front of them that they didn't see, such as when they were looking to find a particular character in love with the villain and found a DIFFERENT character who claimed to also be in love with the villain, yet it never even occurred to them to use her the same way they were going to use the other. This lack of noticing the obvious wasn't a constant but something that did creep up from time to time and made me wish I could shout a warning or suggestion through the pages of this book.

The wandering plot also felt very seat-of-your-pants the whole time, which isn't always bad or good, but might be less of a personal preference for me. I love to see a plot move forward in an ordained, meticulated way, but this, while full of surprises, felt like the author may have been just as surprised by the happenings as I was, reading it. This left me never knowing quite what was going to happen next, though.

On the whole, I had fun with these characters and would return to their world if there were ever a sequel. Especially if the characters found some unexpected way to change the events of the finale, whether it be with a new power, a new, stronger character, a machine, or something else. I think that would make for a twist that's desperately satisfying and exciting. Regardless, however, I would read any sequel! Whether that happens or not, I'm glad I journeyed into this world and these characters' painful journey, fighting back against the darkest of their own. Would recommend to anyone who likes the idea of morally gray superheroes just trying to live their lives and save themselves from someone they should have been able to trust.

The Seven by Erin Curran is a pulse pounding, paranormal story of anti-superheros (similar to The Boys on Prime Video) who are the children of the Weekdays, such as Sunday's Child, who happens to be fair and full of grace.

The Seven, is not a happy go lucky book, nor is it a happy for now. This book has one criminally insane character, one character who is both a Psycho and Sociopath and obsessed with the members of the group, one character who is depressed, and other characters with more physical or psychological issues.

This book starts with Thursday's Child in a mental institution where she is being tortured, physically and mentally. Or at least they're trying to torture her. In the middle of her latest torture session, two of the Seven come to help break her out after ten years of the group being disbanded. When they get out of the building, they let her know the first member who left the group is looking to get a hold of them and obtain their powers - thus killing them - all in the name of love. One member has powers that has been coveted since he joined the group over a 100 years ago and finds himself caught first. When the rest of the group goes to rescue him, they realize to rescue one is really rescue themselves.

The writing is fast paced, the storyline well thought out, and the grammar is great, though it looks like Ms. Curran is using U.K. English (looking at her name, more specifically Irish) guessing by a few words -in the book.

If readers want a happy story, this is not a book to read, BUT, if readers want a wild, crazy adventure, and are willing to stick through to the end of the series, they may just get their happy ending. Book two is Monday, and it is a Prequel story to The Seven and is out now.

The Seven by Erin Curran had such an interesting and original premise that I was immediately curious to pick it up. I loved the idea of a found family of seven people, each with unusual powers based on their Soul Day, the day that they were born and inspired by the traditional rhyme that is so familiar - Monday's child is fair of face etc .
Our primary narrator is Thursday, the child with " far to go" who is struggling through captivity in a psychiatric institution before being dramatically rescued by two of her siblings who are trying to get the band back together in order to thwart a sinister scheme thought up by one of their own, Sawyer, better known as Sunday's child. Sawyer is willing to turn on his family to achieve his ambitions and only by working together will the rest of the group be able to stop him.
I loved the blend of action and humour in this book, it is snappy and sarcastic and moves at a break neck pace from beginning to end, albeit with a few slower scenes to allow for exposition of the characters and their dynamics and relationships. Speaking of characters, Thursday is a lot of fun and her predisposition to act first and think later definitely adds to the drama. I also loved Matthew or Monday, and I thought that the way the author tied his ability to his Soul Day was really clever and such a unique idea. I did find that between the fast pace and the jumps around the timeline things got a little confusing here and there but it did not take long to get back on track but that is a minor complaint about a really inventive and entertaining book.
I read an ARC provided by the author, all opinions are my own.

The Seven: Wooden is like a cup of coffee on a rainy day, sweet, bitter but an adventure throughout said rain! What really stood out to me is the characters in this book! Thursday and Matthew are my favourite and for a good reason! You can see with how much love all of the characters have been created.

I genuinely think that the pacing in this book is perfect! Erin really nailed it, having excellent comedic timing as well. This book helped me out of my reading slump and I couldn't be more grateful for that!

I have gotten an ARC in exchange for a review! Thank you once again.
