What if you and your child could relieve stress and pain? Cope better, feel happier to lead a richer life? Inner Power NOW shows you how. The book offers hope and healing for millions of families with a child or teen facing a serious health issue or life challenge. #1 New York Times bestselling author Jack Canfield, co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul®, has written the Foreword because he wants to help children and families. "I promise you that Inner Power NOW will make a difference and help you and your child thrive," says Canfield. "Everyone will benefit from using these techniques to release stress and facilitate healing and happiness."
The book also is endorsed by James Baraz, who is a mindfulness meditation leader and author of Awakening Joy and Awakening Joy for Kids. New York Times Bestselling author Anita Moorjani who wrote Dying to Be Me and What If This Is Heaven? also has endorsed this book.
WHY INNER POWER NOW?
While the book may be most helpful to families with children facing a serious challenge, the guided meditations and visualizations will soothe, comfort, and help the rest of us be our best. Professionals who work with children will also benefit greatly—therapists, medical providers, and educators. This book may also serve parents of children with special needs or with chronic health issues.
The author Vicki Atlas Israel takes the mystery out of meditation and makes it practical and down-to-earth. One of her first breathing techniques teaches parents and children how to "Breathe like a Navy SEAL for Calm and Focus," which is also known as the "Box Breath." The SEALs call it "tactical breathing" and it's just as helpful for stressed out families. Also included is Lucy Llama, a lovable colorful character, in the children's section.
Here are some of the benefits to empower families to thrive:
Provides freedom from stress, while building mindful parenting Improves calm, focus, creativity, and compassion Helps sooth and heal stress and pain Includes many tools for stress relief—guided meditation scripts, visualizations, and other activities Boosts happiness, joy, and spirituality Unleashes your inner coach and inner healer
WHERE’S THE PROOF?
Research included in the book shows how practicing meditation and visualization may improve healing and coping skills, improving health and well-being. Studies show how mindful parenting can help raise healthier and happier children, who also benefit from learning these practices. The opposite is true. Parents who have anxiety tend to pass on anxiety to their kids. Inner Power NOW offers guided meditations to relieve anxiety and pain that’s geared for the whole family.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor working in Okinawa, Japan and am always looking for useful and practical tools I can use with my patients. After reading Inner Power Now I’m excited to have found something I can share with my patients, my friends, my family (to include my nephews) and that I can use for myself as well! Vicki Atlas has written a book so valuable and it is not just for parents and children but also for anyone who wants stress relief and healing (I think that’s all of us right?)! She encourages therapists, healthcare providers, as well as educators who work with children to use the techniques she walks us through in this book. Vicki skillfully teaches us how to use guided imagery, meditation, breathing tools, and mindfulness. She includes a guided imagery audio program on the book’s companion website which makes it all even easier. You can just sit back relax, and listen, letting Vicki walk you through each exercise.
Throughout the book a darling little llama named Lucy sits cross legged or stands smiling to indicate that there is a breathing exercise, meditation, or guided imagery script to try. Lucy is wearing cool sunglasses to show that the section is for teens, she has flowers in her mouth to show the section is for children, and colorful Lucy indicates the section is for the whole family. She also has “Cool Tips” throughout the book helping the reader if he or she is having difficulty with an exercise and breaks it down even more, helps the reader to not be so hard on himself/herself and gives additional ideas to spark inspiration. As well as the practical exercises she gives us, Vicki shares scientific studies about how and why these methods work.
Reading Vicki’s book is like having a best friend sitting next to you and walking you through each step of the way. She describes each technique in detail and makes it so easy to quickly learn and practice each one from the various breathing techniques (yes, even one used by Navy SEALS) to different meditations for things to include inner peace, loving kindness, and heart coherence to visualizations to discover your safe place, to meet your inner guide, to help us tune into our hearts and/or our bodies for answers, and to heal and reduce pain. My description here only scratches the surface. There is so much more inside this beautiful book and I highly recommend you get your own copy today. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you!
I give this book a #5 rating for the following reasons:
1. The author, a specialist in guided imagery, utilizes struggles/challenges from her own life experiences to directly relate to those of the reader. You believe you can trust her methods. Why? The methods are working for her. Therefore, they stand a very good chance of working for you.
2. Positive Messages- “Be enough just as you are” and you telling that pesky inner voice that puts you down—“thank you for sharing but I’m not buying” are welcomed thoughts needed to achieve inner peace and to gain self-confidence. Of course, conquering negativity is much easier said than done. To assist you in this mighty endeavor are strategic concrete examples.
3. Staying connected to your own breathing and visualizing a “safe place” with calming, positive imagery was once a phenomenon that came naturally to each of us. How? When we were toddlers, we (a) believed the world was our and (b) couldn’t wait to see what the world had to offer. Through living life, this exciting outlook becomes muddled and its original positive messaging ignored.
4. Throughout this book, the author compels you, the reader, to discover once again your inner power. This well-constructed book is the guide that allows each of us to get in tune with our inner child once again. You are confident in your own ability to stay in control of your health, life-choices and emotional growth. The methods that will work for you are there for you to discover. All you have to do is read and absorb.
Whether you’re new to guided imagery and meditation or a devotee with a daily practice, you’ll find something you can use--and something you didn’t know--on the pages of this wonderful new book. Based on solid research and the author’s own training and experience, the information, instruction, exercises, and encouragement offered within Inner Power NOW support the author’s assertion to families facing a challenge that, “There is a loving presence within each of us,” and her promise that, “When we wake up to this truth, we realize that we are co-creators.” Atlas-Israel offers more than a resource; she offers true, heart-lifting hope.

This book is beautifully written and easy to follow! The different sections are clearly organized as there is something for different ages and situations. The guided imagery is easy to follow with step by step suggestions. I will definitely incorporate this tool into my life!
This book was not a remake of other books on the same subject. It was practical and easy to understand. I am ready to implement the authors techniques.
