Shungiku Nakamura (中村春菊 Nakamura Shungiku?, born December 13,1980) is a Japanese yaoi manga artist. She is most famous for creating Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance. Shungiku Nakamura's distinct style of manga has been identified largely throughout Japanese and English yaoi fanbases. Her works usually include large age gaps between the seme and uke and characters with careers in the publishing industry (as depicted in Junjo Romantica and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi). She often cowrites with Fujisaki Miyako, who authored the novels of Yoshino Chiaki no baai in Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi.
Works: Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance (2002 - Ongoing) "Junjou Mistake" (2008) Hybrid Child (2003 - 2004) Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi (2007 - Ongoing) "√W.P.B." (2004) "Touzandou Tentsui Ibun" (1998 - 1999) "Mangetsu Monogatari" "Tsuki wa Yamiyo ni Kakuru ga Gotoku" (1999) "Picturesque of a Mask" (art only) "Umi ni Nemuru Hana"
3.5 stars. I agree with Takano when he said to Onodera: “The two of us are kind of like a huge, incredibly complicated puzzle. There are tons of pieces, and the picture is complex. And although we keep putting more and more pieces together, it never seems to get any closer to completion.” I don’t believe these two will ever make any real progress. If they haven’t in 13 books I don’t have high hopes for the last 3 my library has (and there are 18 out total, but I doubt 5 more books would change much). It’s entertaining enough but it’s like going in a big circle. But this is a soap opera, so the back and forth and backtracking is the backbone of the genre, so really this is my issue and it’s expected for this kind of media.
This volume gave us scenes from when Onodera went to boarding school in England and met his friend Nao (who is Onodera’s version of Yokozawa). I didn’t feel the scenes were necessary or that engaging, but that’s probably just me.
4.5 stars. Kisa and Yukina continue to be my favorites. When Kisa reflected that Yukina’s brother accepting him was the first and only time he’d ever been accepted by a lover’s family, my heart broke for him. It shouldn’t be that way. He’s god for Yukina and both of them are lucky to have either of them. Yukina freaking out belatedly that Kisa would fall for his brother because he’s “cooler” was pretty funny and a nice comedic moment.
This was a short one and I got through it rather quickly. In the first act, we got to see what Nao and Onodera's relationship was like at the boarding school they attended in England. At the time Onodera was so heartbroken that he separated himself from everyone around him and the only person who had enough patience to deal with him was Nao. They didn't get along right away but, thanks to Nao's persistence, they became close friends. We later find out in the next act that he has feelings for Onodera (though we're not sure how long he's had those feelings or how strong they are). Takano doesn't take this news well and reiterates to Onodera that he has no intention of letting him go.
In the continuation of Kisa's story we finally meet Kou's older brother. He's just as handsome and sweet as Kou so there really wasn't any drama between him and Kisa. Kisa convinces him to accept Kou's desire to pursue fine arts as a career path. During the story Kisa's own (crazy) brother randomly showed up out of the blue twice and made a bunch of crazy accusations about Kisa sleeping with both Kou and his brother. That dude really needs a boyfriend of his own. One more volume to go!
I mean were to start. This story is so well built and so painfully slow and wonderful I can't even. It's just ugh I love it. Great impossible situations that have you laughing, crying, wanting. Absolutely the best manga and it has an anime eeeeeeek. So good. Also the depth of the story and complexity of the characters makes this manga a step above the rest.
And I know its older but I always wish for color. It was very sad to see Onodera so angry in the present when he use to be so innocent and in love. Being about a Shoujo manga publishing house made this manga so much more enjoyable and interesting. I appreciated the little definitions of the publishing house words we dont understand. And oh Takano how I've missed you. Your mind and manner is very sexy and worth every panel I read.
Update: I might lose if they the writer never finishes this manga. I need the ending I need churchbells and all things happy. Too much has happened to these two THEY NEED THEIR HAPPY ENDING! AND I NEED TO READ ABOUT IT. And kou omg just seeing some random guy in the background sparkling and you instantly know its him, well it just makes my day. KOU YOUR TOO DAMN SHINY!
Quest'opera crea assuefazione.
I enjoyed this volume more than some of the other recent ones. Onodera is such a chicken when it comes to dealing with his feelings for Takano, that I honestly feel sorry for Takano at this point. And now Onodera’s friend from England has been thrown into the mix, so things are getting complicated.
I would hate to say I told you so, but come on Ritsu I told you so! Nao literally spelled it out for you and you're like well I hope you get the girl..... FACE PALM!!!!! Also finally getting some background in the lost 10 years and love the parallel of them both being connected to the cherry tree!! Also Kisa! Way to be!! Support your man!!!
I bought volume 13 when I saw that it was available to purchase from my favourite manga store. They always have the manga on release day, which is always months ahead of when Amazon and other stores get copies. (It's Forbidden Planet). I did a massive purchase of books for Asianreadathon 2020, and this was one of manga which I ended up reading within 24 hours of it arriving at my house. I did enjoy this manga but this series is starting to feel dragged out and slow, especially because you know that the ending of the series is happening soon as there is a countdown in this series. With all the main three couples in committed relationships, any obstacles that come their way no longer really gripped me because it's clear that they'll get past anything. At this point I am reading the series because I have been invested for so long (over two years) and I want to see how this series will wrap up the story. I will still continue on with the series, but I am enjoying the manga less now.
