Hannah is delighted to receive a Dalmation puppy, Oscar, just before Christmas. She wishes she could spend all her time with her gorgeous puppy, but she has her school Christmas play to rehearse. Meanwhile, Oscar feels lonely and neglected. Why doesn't Hannah want to be with him any more?
Holly Webb is one of Britain's best-loved children's writers. She has written over a hundred books for children, and her work has been translated into over thirty languages. Holly lives in Tilehurst, just outside of Reading, Berkshire, with her husband, three children and several cats.
Hannah learns that a new pet in the family is an adjustment for the pet as well as all members of the family. During the busy holiday season, changes from the usual routine can be even more stressful or upsetting. Even a dream dog can misbehave when he's lonely, bored, or upset but special care and attention to detail can make the situation a more pleasant one for everyone.
I didn't enjoy this one as well as others in the series. I think it was the family's interactions with each other that soured me a bit, even though they are very true to life portrayals. The other books have a more positive tone and in a series that seems to be promoting proper pet care, I like to see more of the good examples than the not so good.
A little girl wants a Dalmatian Puppy, she has been waiting and finally her parents say yes. She goes to look at the puppy and she wants to take him home now, but she has to wait a week. She loves the movie 101 Dalmatians and she thinks of the movie and the Oscars and she chooses Oscar as his name. She gets the main part in the Christmas Play and so she can't play with Oscar as much. But he is a good little puppy and tries to be patient. But he is just a puppy so he chews up her angel wings for the play, but they make some more wings. The family is busy and the Christmas tree really tempting to a puppy, so he gets into trouble. At the Christmas party everyone is busy, so they go for a walk in the woods, they have been there before. But it had snowed more and she couldn't remember the way home. But Oscar knew , what a smart puppy. This is a fun children's chapter book and anyone would enjoy it.
Cute little read. I wanted to see more from the perspective of the puppy though. I did like how the author integrated good information for kids to think about when interacting with a dog.
A quick and easy book to read with an important message about the time that a puppy needs. Does feel quite similar to another of her books Alfie all alone.
I found this story boring and simplistic but my child liked it. I got him a couple more books from the same series. Unfortunately, he never liked any of the other books. They remained unfinished for a while until he finally gathered them up with other unwanted book and asked me to donate them.
Hannah has always wanted a dog and can't believe her luck when her parents finally say yes. better still they're getting a dalmatian Hannah's dream dog.
I loved the book, and also Hannah isn't a brat! She's just mad and angry at Zach for messing around with her beautiful Dalmatian, Oscar, and its funny because Hannah, she watched 101 Dalmatians, and I recently watched 101 Dalmatians, but it was the cartoon version, not the real people version. Here's the story: Hannah comes home to feed the birds, later, Zach comes running out, scaring the birds away, she sighs, she liked watching the birds, then, her mom comes out, too, and tell her that there's Dalmatian puppies up for sale! One day, they bring Oscar home, Zach messes around with Oscar, even one time he was trying to bring Oscar in his bed upstairs, when they weren't allowed to, and then, at some point Hannah gets Oscar, but then, her mom comes, and blames her for bringing Oscar upstairs, but it ends up being a good day on Christmas, read the book to know the whole story. Edit: OMG! This was the best book in the whole world! It is so good and amazing. Defiantly a great Christmas present. If your child likes to read and you are looking for books to give them for Christmas then get Holly Webb's books because they are so good!
