Lady Adeline Kentwood is ready to put the past to rest now that it’s been a year since her husband died. But in order for her to finally feel free, she must confront the man who had stolen her heart and then stomped on it. Unfortunately, seeing him after all this time only opened past wounds that she wanted to forget. Can she forgive him for his past transgressions so she can help the man she both loathes and loves?
Lord Hanover, Collin Dorsey, recently inherited a new title. That title brings him back into contact with the woman he’s never stop loving, but the one who now hates him. When he’s viciously attacked near her home, he awakens with no memory of who she is. Yet, his heart tells him that the heartbroken woman who lives in his manor is the one who holds his heart. If he regains his full memory, where will their rekindled spark of attraction lead them?
I liked reading the story of Collin that was started in the epilogue of Loving a Scoundrel. It started with the present day from a different perspective from what was seen at the end of Loving a Scoundrel. Then after a few chapters the book went into the past and explained more of the situation that was briefly detailed by Collin to his brother in the above mentioned book. Then toward the end it continued on from the present. I came to like Adeline better once we got to know her a bit more but I was also frustrated with her for her foolishness. But she comes to understand that she too was to blame for her situation. It also frustrated me a bit that Collin was a womanizer. Reformed as he may have been. In addition I would have liked to see Addie and Collin having more time to fall for each other in the past or in the future. Their love felt too rushed for me. The ending was certainly not what I saw coming. It was fun to have a bit of a twist to the story. Over all I enjoyed the story. This book can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading Loving a Scoundrel first.
"To err is human, to forgive divine" came to mind as Adeline tried to forgive the man who had grieviously wronged her and brought her misery. But it was a year since her husband had passed away and she was ready to put it to rest. Her plan was to make Collin Dorsey, Earl of Hanover miserable at the wedding of his brother. She would not feel guilty for doing it either! As best laid plans go, she did confront him, but all did not go as planned. Collin went after her and was attacked new her home and when he awakens, he does not remember his name! Yet his mind may not know her but the heart tells him different. This was a very enjoyable novella that packed a lot into the story. I felt for Adeline but also was anxious to find out what really happened between them those couple of years ago. This author always writes a story that keeps my interest and am always glad to see a new book by her. Prepare to not be able to put this one down once you start!!
Theirs was a love story that could have been written in the stars. Their attraction was immediate. But due to circumstances out of their control, it was snuffed in the bud. 1 year later and much has changed. This book was full of twists and turns I did not see coming. It kept me turning the pages wanting more. Even with it finished, I still want more. You will too.
I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
I didn't think I would like this story when I started reading it but soon changed my mind. I certainly had no idea the end would turn out like it did. Marie is a materful thinker & writer to come up with stories like this. WELL DONE!!. I received an ARC copy. This is my honest, volunatry review.
For Collin and Addie it was almost love at first sight, but things got in the way. It was fun reading their story and discovering what kept them apart. I had some of it figured out early on, but Ms. Higgins still managed a few twists I didn't expect.
Surprises, twists and turns. Classic Marie Higgins. Misunderstandings cause heartache, hurt and anger, but that doesn’t stand in the way of true love. Forgiveness and realization of wrongs caused by others, bring love and happiness. You just never know who you can, or cannot, trust.
Collin and Adeline’s road to happily ever after did not run smoothly and there were a few surprises thrown in. Marie Higgins always brings a good story line and well-developed characters to every story and this one is no exception. Instant attraction was there but there are hurdles to overcome. This book kept me reading to find out what would happen next.
The start of this book is definitely an attention grabber. Poor Adeline has her life turned upside down after she is widowed and blames her misfortunes on Collin. This is a story about second chances. I loved the main characters and the growth that came as they learned to communicate and understand each other. Collin is plenty of swoony. A great book.
A great read with an unexpected twist. The characters are so good that I became part of their world. This book has romance, mystery and dangerI Would suggest this great read to anyone who wants to read a beautiful romance! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book! Because of a misunderstanding, the two main characters are at odds until the man is hurt and the girl takes him into her home to take care of him. They figure out that they were lied to and work it all out. I recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books.
A sweet story with a misunderstanding, marriage to the wrong man and subsequently his death shortly after the marriage. Will a second chance at love be sabotaged by a secret admirer or worse?
Marie did it again! I do not normally like to read historical fiction but I took a chance again. I really enjoyed the story. There were things I didn't expect happen with the characters and it was very easy to identify with the characters. A great, fun read!
OMG! The game of chance is life. Clue is the game. I speak in riddles you say? Read this book and you will be exclaiming the same! Mystery. Murder. Love. Grief. This has it all.
