Cassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.

Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).

After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again.
Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.

City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.

The Mortal Instruments

Omfg hell yeah. Isabelle's design got improved. fucking finally? 5stars just for that.
There were scenes i wanted that got cut but that's life i guess. Not 100% sure that i know which scene is the brand-new exclusive scene... Not gonna lie tho, I wanted the new scene to be of Jace and Magnus living together ooorrr that scene where Alec fell on his neck.
And now we wait for City Of Ashes Part 2....

I noticed that a lot, and I mean a lot of scenes were skimmed through or skipped entirely. I would much rather own a large quantity of graphic novels in order to get all the content of the books than only have a few and not get certain scenes.

Overall, the artwork was even better in this one than the previous two. Cassandra Jean's interpretations of Jace and Magnus continue to be my favorites. Simon, Alec and Izzy looked infinitely better as well.

Now I'm just stuck waiting for the fourth installment. MAN.

4.5 stelle!

I can't get enough of this series!!! So much romantic angst in this one and I love all the banter. Poor Simon 🥺 There's already character art in full colour so I don't understand why they hadn't just done it for the whole series... can you just imagine how stunning it would be?

oh man, i remember the kiss scene between clary and jace in the seelie realm in the novel and it was awkward as fuck. now that it’s immortalised into the graphic novel, i can’t un-see it. the whole simon x clary x jace situation is just a mess. i remember just wanting to skip past everything because at that point i still didn’t know clary and jace aren’t siblings at all. also, poor simon. i don’t doubt that clary likes/loves him but just not the kind that he wants.

any way, the plot is thickening with valentine stealing the second mortal instrument and killing the silent brothers. he’s just stirring shit whenever he can and summoning demons even though he hates them.

This adaption continues to be amazing! Many of the visuals are like they jumped out of my head, which is so cool to see. It was cool to have a scene from Simon’s POV at the hotel, which wasn’t in the original novel. We skipped Maia’s background story, but I’m assuming we’ll get that in a future installment, which will definitely feel more natural, so I think it’s a smart decision. Also, Alec and Magnus are on the cover! I was almost expecting to get an extra scene between them since they’re so sparse in the original trilogy, but nothing on that front yet. Maybe in the next one? 5/5 stars

I forgot this was coming out so this was such a treat! I continue to enjoy Cassandra Jean’s art with my fav characters and I’m actually also re-reading City of Ashes right now (this volume is the first half of City of Ashes), so it was fun to read along with the actual book.

This volume included some of my favorite Simon moments which I was SO happy to see illustrated!! I can gush about Simon Lewis for a millennium so I’ll just stop this review here haha

As a major Shadowhunter fan I really enjoyed watching some of my favourite scenes come to life through the illustrations, but I don´t think it would be that great of a graphic novel if you haven´t read the books beforehand.

It's not fair how short these are. I need them all nowww!!

What can I say? It's amazing, incredible, fun (did I say amazing?) and so well done. Makes me want to re read the series again but I probably shouldn't since that would bring me to re read number 8* (* maybe 9?) and I think my other books would be insulted.

I just want to see my baby, Sebastian, make his dramatic appearance already! Give me my evil little shithead!
