This book is such a lift-up!
I wanted to read this book slowly to memorize the ionics women’s names and faces.
After I read a chapter about one super woman i go search for more like documentaries, books, interviews, etc. it makes me feel so much good about the world

Somewhat random selection with notable global omissions and some iffy contemporary British inclusions, but otherwise a great resource for further reading, listening and watching and some good and poorly known history here.

Some very cool and compelling stories of amazing women. However, the whole book is written in a very “You Go Girl!” tone that sometimes detracts from the impact of these stories. Also, there are several spelling/grammar/word choice errors that should have been caught by the editor.

I loved this! It was a very quick book but there is a list in the back for further reading and I love that!

This is a beautiful, accessible and much-needed collection of stories about some of the most extraordinary women! I really enjoyed it. Thanks to Candi Williams for putting this together. My only small criticism is that the language in places could have benefitted from some editing. A gem!

Iconic Women of Colour is a beautiful book on the true stories of a few amazing women of colour.

I loved this book. I savoured every bit of it like a cute little bible on women of colour. There were quite a few notable figures missing, for instance, I really expected to see Wangari Maathai appear in this. Equally, some more Britain-specific names were included, that aren't quite as popular. The second I would forgive because, well, the authors are British and the book is written and compiled in Britain, for a primarily British audience. The oversight on global names is much less forgivable, but then again, women of colour been doing the thing from time, and it would be impossible to compile all of their achievements into a cute little book, so I guess someone had to be left out.

That having been said, this book is necessary. The stories in there are important and show real women, going through real struggles, and emerging the stronger for it, and making our world oh so colourful we feel lucky to live in it. And the stories are told bite-sized and compelling, with the major points highlighted, so they invite you to do some further research into these iconic ladies.

Definitely a recommended read.

I loved this book for the bite-sized easy to digest bios of inspirational women - many of who were new to me. The beautiful illustrations complemented the friendly, engaging tone of voice perfectly. It was an educational read, be prepared to highlight quotes and do some google deep dives. This is an ideal gift for any aspiring feminists.
