The Great Tomb of Nazarick has never been busier, with a rib-tickling showdown underway and a Don't Laugh Challenge featuring your favorite characters-a cross-dressing Sebas, a lovestruck-succuvus-turned-actress Albedo, and your awkward guardian, Pandora's Actor-just to name a few! Join the cast under the almighty Lord Ainz Ooal Gown to give a warmhearted twist to the mega-popular series, Overlord!
What happens when you take Overlord out of its usual style and mix it with a 4koma like Azumanga Daioh? Let the experiment begin!
If you are looking for a story about conquest and slaying baddies who are foolish enough to stand against insanely powerful protagonists then let me assure you this is not that sort of story (I am sure the cover might have been a HUGE clue on that though.) With the Overlord characters pulled from their usual setting so we can enjoy something more humorous we get to see all sorts of characters that don't necessarily have as big of a role in the main story (at least not for now) so I enjoyed seeing new and old characters alike being silly though I believe some of the book will probably go over the heads of some people as there is at least one part about leaning some about Kanji, another part about school sports festivities(though some might understand those from other anime and manga), and the occasional time when a play on words in Japanese did not translate well into English due to lack of context. All in all though the book was fun in my opinion and although the editor comments on the edge of the pages to explain certain things you don't really have to read them if you don't want to as even they mention on page 9. :)
As a side note be sure to flip to the back for a short story about Ainz trying to get some time to himself and how to manage his staff. Also Mare Bello Fiore has enough problems with people being jealous of the ring Ainz gave him. Let's not torture the poor boy to amuse the masses (though the torture was not as bad as depicted at first.)
Way better than the embarrassingly bad My Hero Academia one. Maybe the cast of Overlord just lends itself to this more? I dunno. Anyway it's fine and fun but not incredible. Don't feel like you're missing much of you don't read this.
