Auntie Clem's Bakery #7

Sour Cherry Turnover

Rate this book
Erin told anyone who would listen that she was not concerned about The Bake Shoppe reopening, but in her heart of hearts, she was worried about whether Auntie Clem’s Bakery would be able to survive a direct competitor in Bald Eagle Falls. She can’t help feeling resentment toward Charley starting up a competing business and expecting her advice and support.

But a brutal murder soon reminds her that there are worse things than competition. Especially when she is discovered with the murder weapon in her hand.

Worried that Vic’s brother Jeremy may be involved, Erin tries to protect him from the investigation.

Treasure seekers, drug dealers, and secret tunnels; Erin needs to untangle it all before time runs out.

What a great read ! Very complicated & fun. This was my first book by the author. Just plain excellent.
You can read this without having read the the others, but I believe it would be even more enjoyable if read in order because there's a lot of complicated characters & back story. Enough info is given that you won't feel lost, but, it did make me want to know all of their histories.
Pros=
The diversity of the characters. They aren't vanilla & I loved that. A very diverse group, who all manage to get along-imagine that!
The dialogue was natural & felt like real conversations. And I appreciated that it wasn't "Erin said" this, "Vic said" that. You could easily tell who was talking.
This book had a rocket fast pace & complicated plot. I did figure out a few things, but it certainly didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.
Cons=
I'd have liked a little more info about Bald Eagle Falls. What other shops, restaurants are there? Maybe that's covered in earlier books.
As soon as I finished this I picked up the next one to start. That should tell you how good it was.
I was provided an ARC by the author in exchange for writing an honest review. Sometimes they're happy, sometimes not, but I read reviews to see if I might like a book, so that's what I try to give you.

Erin tries to tell everyone that having her half-sister, Charley, open up The Bake Shoppe in the small town of Bald Eagle Falls doesn't really bother her....but it does. Erin does specialty baking, where Charley does 'regular' baking. But that isn't the only thing going on in their small town. Seems that they have an increase in gangs lately. But when Erin's marble rolling pin is missing she goes to The Bake Shoppe to have it out with her sister. Instead, she finds the body of the lawyer who allowed Charley to open the bakery on the floor and her rolling pin beside him! That is cherry sauce all over the place! Then Vic's brother Jeremy comes to town. He is part of a clan and wants out. They hide him, but the Vic is kidnapped! Can they find out who is responsible for all the mayhem that has all of a sudden infected their town? Who is this strange 'treasure hunter' Beaver? Could she be part of the problem? You will need to read the book to find out what happens and who is the good guys and who isn't. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book

Wild goose chase after wild goose chase. No rabbit trails. There is so much going on in this story that I could not figure out who did it. Everyone seems to have something that they are not telling, Does it have anything to do with the murder?

It was fun to read about Erin and her bakery again. Been reading about 'sister' Reg. Check her out too. (Also any other book by this author, you will not regret it!)

Little concerned about how it ended. Will have to wait till next book to see how it works out.

Will say that even though you can read this book on its own. I highly recommend reading the previous books. It will especially explain the Jackson and Dyson clan thingy.
I read the book in one day, so fast fun read.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

My seventh read from author P.D. Workman, although I own several of her books I’d never gotten around to reading one until I’d acquired Auntie Clem’s Bakery #3 I wanted to read the first two books in the series before reading it, I really don’t like to read books out of sequence. Extremely well written, the characters well developed building on the first books in the series. This may be the best book in the series to date! I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book and now by the seventh book in the series you already know the characters and can appreciate the continued growth of the characters and the community. I really look forward to P.D. Workman’s next book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

This is the first book I've read in this series. It was a fun to read story. Erin's half sister is about to open a competing bakery and wants to borrow some tools from Erin's bakery. Since Erin's bakery is a gluten free bakery, Erin refuses.
When Erin's rolling pin goes missing, she knows where to look for it. When she finds it, it is obvious that the heavy device has been used as a murder weapon. And then the mysteries start to pile up.

Although it's clearly a book in a series, you can read and enjoy this book without having read the others. I'm looking forward to reading other books written by the author.

A very interesting cozy mystery. Well written and engaging characters. Erin is a believable and vulnerable protagonist. Lots of emotional storylines as well as a compelling mystery.

Just as an aside: I am a Christian who can read books without being offended by the characters makeup. That said I want to give a heads up to other Christian readers that there are a transsexual character, an Atheist character and a Wiccan character. I am sure that the author wants to represent the diversity of our nation by including these characters. The book doesn’t go into intimate details so no need to worry about that. But I just wanted to let y’all know.

I do recommend this book as I enjoyed it.

Things get crazy when someone is murdered with a marble rolling pin in Charley’s not yet opened bake shop, but Erin is the one to find the body...and what she’s seeing on the floor is not cherry pie filling! Vic’s brother, Jeremy, shows up without warning and swears Vic and Erin to secrecy about him being there. The clans are acting up and things are just getting bad in this small town. So much is happening and it’s awesome because there is so much to think about with this case! Loving it!
I received a free book for an honest review. These are my honest opinions.

I enjoyed this book. It was a little more exciting that others in the series.

In this story, we find Erin's half-sister trying to open a regular bakery. She tries to borrow supplies from Erin but as Aunti Clem's Bakery is gluten-free, that is not possible. When a marble rolling pin goes missing, Erin finds it at the new bakery but also finds a dead body. The story continues with many twists and turns in a well-written tale.

The author leaves you wanting more as there is always a cliff-hanging ending. I can't get enough of this series.

I’m very happy to be able to give a review for this awesome book. I received this book as an arc from the author. It is definitely a note worthy book. The story is interesting and exciting in a fast paced and page turning story. The characters are awesome as always in the Auntie Clem’s Bakery series. Ms Workman has a way with words that leaves the reader awed. The twists and turns keep you on your toes. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This is the 7th in the series and I loved it. The main characters are Erin and Vic and Detective Terry. This time Erin walks into another murder but in her half-sister's bakery. At the same time there are a lot of strange new people around town and they seem to be connected to the crime clans out there. Before they can figure out what is going on, Vic is kidnapped.
This was a real page turner. I loved it and think you will too.

This is the first book in the series that I've read but had no trouble following along with what went before. I enjoyed the book and meeting the characters. The plot was believable and the pacing was good. I wasn't sure until the end who did it.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a voluntary, honest review.

This is the first book in this series that I have read. I really enjoyed it. There were some references of things that happened in previous books, but that did not take away from the pleasure of reading this one. Great characters in a great setting. Looking forward to reading more in this series.

Erin stomach tightens when her half sister Charley comes into the bakery.
If she reopened The Bakery Shoppe she would be in competition with Erin.
More than rivals when Erin finds a dead body, employees with secrets, and murder done with a baking item. Good series to enjoy..

Love this series!

Love this series of books. The main characters are heart warming and likable. Again, the ending of the murder mystery was totally unexpected. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Very well written story, with excellent characters and believable dialogue. This isn't a huge masterpiece, but just what it sets out to be: a cozy mystery and good entertainment.

Delightful and intriguing story. Erin just said that she wasn’t worried about the bakery reopening. But she wasn’t as confident as she sounded. Another fantastic book by this superb writer.

Pie vs Pie

There seemed to be several characters and animals that really didn't have any relevance in the story. The ending was lame.
