My name is Inez Garner, and my story has sort of been told… But not. I’m turning twenty-three and find out I’m not human; I’m apparently a vampire. Sure, who hasn’t read that story? Oh, but I’m a princess. And there’s a zombie apocalypse—although I’m debating where the line is of apocalypse vs. post-apocalypse. There’s also a quest that I’m compelled to be on, and it might all be coming from the Goddess.
Awesome. It seems She has big plans for me. And I have to deal with ghosts. When I kill corrupted—the nice PC name people call zombies, as it’s not their fault they eat people—I then have to deal with their ghosts. Which is super when being hunted for years by some guys I don’t want to know better.
Add to everything, I have to apologize to heroines for judging them when they fall in bed with the hot guy and buy the story he gives. I get it now. Sex is splendid. I’m not one to believe a con, but he’s got answers I need, like why I have no memories before I was eighteen.
Plus, the fangs sort of sold it for me. I hope he forgives me for shooting him.
House of Garner is an apocalyptic hot burning WhyChoose romance with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who doesn’t let anyone get in her way.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
So before I even talk about the plot I have to say these are some of the worst covers I've ever seen. I know 'dont judge a book by a cover' but I can't help but think an author that doesn't spend the time or effort to make a cover at least a little better then these just doesn't care. Seriously Erin Flynn I beg of you all your books get some better covers. I thought that was a ginger root on the side of this one, it's seriously atrocious.
Okay now on to the story, so surprisingly considering the aforementioned cover the writing is pretty good, it gets a little hard to stay on task every now and then and I find myself back tracking to figure out how I got lost but over all an author that has a talent. Now the world and storyline, 5+* like if I could give it a little polishing... Cut out 75% of the sex (I don't mind sex but dude it's gratuitous just every few pages) this would be one of my favorite reads. Unfortunately due to the just needless overload of repetitive sex I couldn't even finish, the book would be so interesting delving into the vampire world and plot and bam just pages of sex over and over again. Again don't mind sex but I need the plot to not be countlessly interrupted by it. I also get the feeling there will be MM which I don't remember seeing a tag for so just a heads up for those who don't enjoy that in their read.
Here's the thing...I enjoyed the hell out of this book. The story was great and the main character is awesome. Kudos to the author for such imaginative material. But the execution left much to be desired. A really good editor would turn Flynn into a really good writer. She's not one yet.
There were ssoooo many parallels between this book and the Their Vampire Queen books by Joely Sue Burkhart that it was sometimes hard to focus on this book. Don't get me wrong, there were significant differences, but the similarities were everywhere. There were also this author's usual grammar issues, misused homonyms, etc. If those issues don't bother you and you've never read the series by Ms. Burkhart, you'd probably give this book 4 or 5 stars.
What an unusual combination. The idea of a "princess" vampire is not that original, but the author makes her story unique by placing the heroine and her men in a dystopian world. I like the heroine and her men. Some of the "romance" sweet talk is a little cheesy, but I think the author just wanted to reinforce the idea that the court revolves around the princess and her needs. Hopefully, the series will reveal her background and where the corrupted came from.
The biggest con to this novel was the editing. Sometimes, it took more than once to read a sentence to make sense of it, due to the bad editing. So, if bass editing/grammar is a big issue for you, then you will not enjoy this book as much as me. I am a person who gives 5 stars to a novel, if I enjoyed it, and do not mark down for bad editing, unless of course the novel was unreadable. In this case, there were some issues, but they did not take away from the story itself as it unfolded.
I get excited whenever this author comes out with a new book in her many series or a new series but I don't know why. Her series are pretty much the same thing. There's lots of diatribes, rants, tirades etc. that get old really fast.
The entire series along with all her other series is written like it’s preteen who just read her mother’s harlequins and thinks she’ll be a great writer.
I’m not even close to the same age as some of the men in her harem and I would not want to play the same games that Inez does with her men. Yet they all want to play stupid immature games.
Everyone sounds the exact same. I mean the same wording, tone, slang, pacing. The exact same. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 2000 year old vampire, 120 year old shifter or early 20’s Inez. They all sound the exact same. Even the chapters from other points of view.
★★★★★ – My Favourite Erin Flynn Series, Hands Down
I absolutely love the House of Garner series. From book one all the way through book nine, Inez’s journey had me hooked. Normally anything apocalyptic - especially with zombies, would have me running the other direction, but this series is the exception. It’s brilliant, unique, and easily my favourite Flynn series (and yes, I’ve read almost everything - Artemis, I’m coming for you eventually!).
This deserves a long review because it’s just that good. The worldbuilding, the massive harem, the emotional stakes, the humour - everything works. Inez is relatable, flawed, resilient, and genuinely inspiring. She falls, grows, gets back up, and keeps fighting. She’s an absolute powerhouse of a heroine.
Also, Erin… please, I am begging: give us character glossaries. With the number of characters, species, powers, family lines, and love interests, we need a directory - especially in a long-running series. Even a website glossary would help your fans so much.
The Men (So Far) Darius – The first, and still one of the best. He’s young by immortal standards, carrying his own trauma, and he tries so hard. He deserves happiness with Inez, and I hope he’s still around thriving at the end.
Jaxon – Love his mom, but Jaxon himself needs a lot of growth. The potential is there, but he’s not my favourite.
Kristoff – A standout! His growth has been incredible, and I’m loving the daddy/breeding-kink energy he brings. More ancient vampires in this harem, please.
Cerdic – Still on the fence. He’s fine, but his family? Yikes. I’m hoping for a redemption arc - and maybe that twin scene readers are thirsting for.
Branko – He faded into the background for a while, but now that he’s back, I’m excited again. His backstory and his mom are going to be wild, I can feel it.
James – Did not love his special scenes or his behaviour. He feels unreliable, and the “what if he finds his destined mate?” question hangs over everything. Not my pick.
The Men Who Are (Hopefully) Joining Sisay – Friend-zoned and trying so hard to escape it. I want more for him. His friendship with Inez deserves to grow into something bigger.
Petre – My second-favourite ancient vampire. A great character, though I wasn’t thrilled about the moment with Lara. Still, I want many more scenes with him.
Vitor – My favourite ancient vampire. He’s powerful, old, fascinating, and gives off the best energy. Also I’m loving the daddy/breeding-kink energy he brings too. I need his backstory, his nationality, everything. More Vitor!
Tian – He absolutely needs to join the harem. The potential is huge, the vibes immaculate, and his story is going to break hearts. And yes, that bite scene… iconic.
Moon – Needs more page time. His connection with Inez felt important early on, but it hasn’t gone anywhere yet. Hoping for more development and clarity.
The Wishlist Men (A girl can dream!)
Vance – What happened here? He had such strong momentum, then James swooped in and took over. Vance deserves better.
Tyson – Rooted for him early on, and his dynamics with Inez were stronger than James’s ever were. Would definitely welcome him into the harem.
CeAwlin – He’s coming, we all know it, and the twin scene potential is there! Give it to us! Give him more screen time!
Sundar – He called her “My Princess.” He said it. He’s already falling, and he deserves happiness after everything he endured. I want him in Inez’s life permanently, there is just something special about him.
Final Thoughts I adore this series. The FMC, the MMCs, the villains, the world, the lore - everything works together beautifully. It’s emotional, action-packed, funny, sexy, and full of heart. I cannot wait for more.
5/5 stars. Absolutely amazing.

Why did you read this book? I am wanting to get through some RH romance series I’ve put on the back burner.
What format did you read this book in? Read it as an ebook on Kindle.
Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment? I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.
What genres do you think this book belongs to? Crime, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Paranormal, Psychology, Romance, Science Fiction, Spirituality, Travel, Adult
What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILERS
Who would you suggest this book to? Anyone who likes vampires, zombies, and dystopias.
What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? SPOILERS I liked it a lot. It’s a breath of fresh air and different from my usual RH romance reads. I agree with other commenters that the author should really CHANGE THE COVER OF HER BOOK. This was an excellent story that I almost passed because of how bad the cover art is. The author does an excellent job at world building and creating believable characters. Despite there being so many aspects to the story (vampires, end of the world, dystopia, zombies, MC on some sort of deity directed quest) everything is well blended together. I love how the author shows us how strong the heroine is (and doesn’t just tell us like most stories). I also like how the MC doesn’t just fall into bed with the love interests despite her attraction to them. The dark content isn’t explicitly shown (which I appreciate). Overall, this is an excellent RH romance book and I highly suggest giving this series a try.
Are there any cliché scenes or concepts? MC is born special with special powers. Love interests are magically attracted to her. Love interest reveals that the MC isn’t human. There is a secret world humans don’t know about.
How intense are the intimacy scenes? Very intense, but most are not graphically detailed. However, there are scenes that are VERY explicit. Blood play is involved (expected from vampire genre romances). Voyeurism, blood play, cutting, biting, MF, MFM, Heat.
At what “burn” level is the romance? The burn level is HOT! Might be too spice for some.
Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender? There are two romance interests, all of the males, and vampires. Darius- Young vampire (at 200 years old) that found the MC. House of Katz (House destroyed). Jaxon- Found MC and Darius being intimate. Young vampire (500 years). House of O’cleirgh, coven galway. Kristof- Ancient and powerful vamp. House Priest (Last survivor).

My rating is for the entire series (6 books I read total at least).
This series is one of the best I’ve read in a long time and it will immediately suck you in. If I didn’t have responsibilities in real life then I would have read this entire series from sun up to sun up most likely. It’s that good.
Inez is a young woman (22) all on her own while doing her best to survive a zombie apocalypse and running from a bad guy who’s been hot on her trail for the past five years. Oh, and she sees ghosts. This girl has been through A LOT. Then she meets men who have her back like no other and show her just how special she truly is.
This is chock full of hilarious moments while also having an engaging plot. This is a reverse harem with spice and there are a lot of men interested in her.
The first two books are amazing and my favorite but after halfway through the third it slowly starts to trickle downhill. I made it through book 6 but can’t find it in myself to continue anymore as there are currently 8 books out and we don’t know how long or when it will finally have an ending. This author also wrote Artemis University and that’s like a 22 book series.
The series started to slow down to a snails pace without adding any real value to the plot. This author has a great imagination for detail but a ton of those details are just filler and made me skim PAGES and I still didn’t miss anything. Like the near constant step by step detail on food prep and catering. Yawn. 🥱
The spice is plentiful but it’s not very detailed. It’s not the tingly spice that gets you all flustered; it’s more of a “oh, that’s fun” type of spice. A ton of it is “he pushed in and I orgasmed.” No details. But the plot is so good I didn’t mind.
Possible spoilers for deeper in the series below: 👇🏼
The fighting and withdrawing from her men was childish and dragged the story to a level I didn’t even want to finish. It goes on for multiple books and it’s over dumb things that would be resolved with a simple mature conversation. Part of why I don’t want to read past book 6.
She has one guy courting her from earlier in the series and he is mentioned maybe twice in book 6 without any sign of the relationship moving forward.
She gets crushed that her men didn’t try to talk to her after an argument yet she also didn’t try to talk to them. She even told them to leave her alone right after. That is the reason she spirals and is basically ending it with him.
This series starts off with a phenomenal bang but as the author just keeps it going on and on the magic of it is ruined. It doesn’t even feel like the same book or characters. Inez has badass moments where her strategic brain tickles me to no end but everything else just keeps going forward without adding any value.
I’ll probably pick the series back up one day when it’s finished 5 years from now, but it’s lost my interest at this moment.
I love all the Erin R Flynn series I've read (Artemis University, Karma Bakery, Seraphine Thomas, The Enchantress, Untraceable Succubus and House of Garner) and while I don't think I can pick a favourite because it's definitely tied between Artemis and HoG, this is absolutely the series I want more from first.
This is essentially a blanket review for all 6 books in the series because six reviews all just to give the same opinion? Yeah, no. The overall opinion for those not wanting spoilers is; this series is awesome!
So, spoilers ahead from here on out; * * * * Okay, my one criticism is the sex scenes. In this I found the writing style a little more cringey than the other series. Too close to cheesy porn a lot of the time, borderline emotionally abusive in others. A lot of using sex to get men to say nice things which I don't love. I didn't love Soroya and Hunt in Enchantress for similar reasons, but it was just those two so I didn't mind because it seemed like a "their relationship" thing, not an overall writing thing. If I had to read one more scene of poor, poor Inez asking her guys if they wanted other women or if she was the prettiest while they were INSIDE her, I would have stopped reading, so instead I started skimming sex scenes. I don't want to insult Erin here, so maybe at least see that I'm saying a steam-based book was worth reading minus the steam?
I say poor Inez because fuck a duck, she deserved better than all of them minus Kristof. He made mistakes that are understandable and kept working on himself. The others I would legitimately divorce IRL if it was me. Like pack up and get out this second. I related so hard to how she was blamed for everything when she remembered literally nothing since she woke up mid apocalypse at 18, meeting the guys at 22, and yet with their multi centuries of living they put the onus on her to make multiple relationships work without so much as some tips. Fuck those guys.
The last book in the series was left on a cliffhanger so I'm saying it now, Flynn, gimme some more Inez!
I truly hope that the writter (and editor) sees this. First lets start with what i did like: * The world * The plot * The whole quest thing and powers * The heroine (there is better, she didn't make me laugh, cry or anything but it could've been worse)
What I did NOT like: * The repetitive use of words such as "smart". There were others but this is the one who takes the cake and probably the reason why I will Dnf this book at 50%. I'm guessing the author didn't have an editor (and if she did, kick him to the curb girl) because ANYone will tell you to not repeat so many times words that are so noticeable. In all this word was used 56 times in the book, especially in the pre-middle when she meets Jaxon. It's not that many, but when you are reading 30 pages and THEY JUST KEEP COMPLEMENTING ON HOW SMART EACH ONE IS.... God help us all. * characters were underdevelopped. The thing when you write multiple PVS from the very beginning of the book, is that you HAVE to be an expert on it. Because they all thought the same. Especially the men. And that's dull enough to want to put this book down even more.
Furthermore, I know they are predators and need to adapt to their surroundings. I can even tell myself : "Okay, a 500 years old man thinks "Oh damn, I'm in trouble" because it's his personnality which was only increased by the 2010 world around him before the apocalypse"
BUT when the other protagonist who is 200 years old thinks the same? I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time finding excuses when the truth is that this book is dull and poorly executed.
Bad wish-fulfillment fantasy - which is a pity because good novels have been written with almost the same ingredients.
Inez is a vampire princess. She has super powers. She has a Destiny. (This isn't subtle Destiny: If she doesn't move in the direction it points, she is forced to backtrack.) She has a desperate need for sex - a problem which the vampires she meets are happy to help her solve, for a large fraction of the book's page count.
A few years ago there was a zombie apocalypse, and Inez travels through a landscape filled with hungry (not-very-bright) zombies who are particularly anxious to attack her.
Her travels are more of a triumphal progress than an adventure. Attacking zombies get shot, male vampires fall in love (and bed) and join the procession. The super powers improve over time. Scavenging for supplies is easy despite a general collapse and an actually-large remaining population.
The author has taken familiar ingredients and has not done much with them.
Dystopian Fast Burn PNR Reverse Harem, to be continued ending. Character age range: 24+
A Lot happens in this book, I mean, a LOT! They quite literally span the eastern side of the US (even hitting outside Fort Knox) - but it still has a slow feel, I’d that makes sense. Since this is a Flynn novel, you can expect the heroine to be bad@ss, and she surely is, though not quite as in your face snarky as some characters that have graced Flynn novels. Instead, there is an almost innocence to her - even as she is facing a world of unknown. Things are confusing, and this narrative does little to clear it up. Emotions feel too fast and the collection too quick, but it’s still an interesting tale and wroth reading.
This turned out to be hands down the most unique Vampire read I have ever stumbled upon. This is a strange cover (imo) and threw me off at first but the plot is good! We're introduced to Inez (fmc) who is on the road, on the run, post apocalypse. She's alone. She's being chased. She's battling zombies and humans alike to stay alive. Inez believes she's a human until she happens upon a beautiful stranger who calls her "princess". By the mid way point we're learning so many fascinating things about Inez (along side) her. The story is fast paced. Action packed. Loads of heat and smexy times. Multiple fascinating characters emerging. It really kept my attention (which is hard to do these days). Definitely recommend.
This one is set after an apocalyptic event. Inez has no memories before her 18th birthday and for 5 years she is alone and trying to survive. She knows she isn't human but doesn't really have the answers. She starts to meet others that she can trust and she discovers a whole new world of vampires and courts. She is meeting guys slowly and building a team. It is more gritty and has a lot of steam. They do a lot of blood play as well so if that isn't your thing... I like the characters and the guys are genuine and don't seem to have the jealous or trying to change her vibe. Different then the Sera books and a good story.
Interesting characters, creative world building and decent storyline. FMC is strong, independent and a bit of a bada** while still being warm, kind etc. She’s perfect and has all these amazing skills yada yada yada. It’s unrealistic but doesn’t detract from the story too much. The MMCs have the insta-ultra-devotion which is kind of annoying. There is also a tremendous amount of stuff happening in a relatively short time span and with that, it’s a bit jumpy. There is definitely a lot of sex, not all in explicit detail. Oh, and the blood play. They are vampires so not completely unexpected but it is graphic and a large part of their (frequent) sexual interactions. Moving on to book 2.
So I don't normally go for post-apocalyptic or zombie themed books, but I have to admit, this one was a pleasant surprise. If I hadn't read most of the authors previous books already I never would have read this one. Luckily the zombies aren't the main focus. What I really enjoyed about this book was the multiple POV. Almost always a plus for me and unexpected considering other books by the author. Honestly I had been hoping for the next Karma book but this one didn't disappoint.
I am going to give a quick review, but more about the writing than the story. I actually somewhat enjoyed the story, but i hated HATED the characters. Inez was not bad, especially for the circumstances. However, the utter devotion of the people around her was ridiculous. Also, the language and verbiage was over done. I physically shudder when someone says "nummy" like a child. The editing was not great (missing a lot of punctuation that caused me to have to reread sentences for them to make sense).
However, despite all of this, i am going to give the second book a try.
What a new take on vampire mythology! Erin R. Flynn has started a world that is not easy and not for the soft. Soft gets you eaten, or taken, or worse.
How do you handle waking up to the apocalypse with no memory? You trust your gut and no one that can talk. Inez Garner has been surviving like that for five years. And then she meets a guy who tells her things and changes her world.
Can Inez change the whole world with her new found knowledge and companions? Only time will tell.
Yes it’s the end of the world and most of the world’s population is dead, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a group of fabulously hot vampires and shifters to build a family. This series by Erin Flynn is a great new take on the apocalypse genre. Well written with a storyline that is completely different than any others I have read. Series is addictive and I can’t wait for the next one. FMC is kick butt and in charge. Her harem are hot hot hot and all about her. There is a bit mm but it is minimal. The unique way the author has approached the apocalypse is well worth reading. I highly recommend his series and almost everything she writes.
This is like my 5th time reading this series and I absolutely love it even now and every time I see something new and I read it. I know you stopped writing it because you didn't think people were interested yes I know some of your friends but I wish you would because I love it!! I think it"s your best series . It's so original and so empowering. And yes I also love your series about fairy but I love this 1 more please write more books don't end the series where you did.
This is my second time reading Inez's story and won't be the last. Every time a new book comes out re-read from the beginning, so that I get a refresh of the characters. It makes everything fall back into place and is so enjoyable to have the story in my mind.
I have read just about all of Erin R Flynn's work and have never been disappointed. I have a soft spot for Inez though since I love vampires. She is so relatable and would love to be her friend if she was real.
Ms. Flynn posted on Facebook that she had written an apocalypse book, even though she had previously said she would not. I am glad she changed her mind! This is a fast paced, well written book, with a whole new world and new characters from her previous series. I greatly enjoyed this, and look forward to more in the series. Also on pins and needles waiting for a new Karma Bakery book, a new Enchantress book and a new Seraphine Thomas book!
This story was so cool. I enjoyed reading it, couldn't put it down. The premise is so different, but familiar in the dystopian genre. But with such an original flare, refreshing characters and the organization of the vampire world, and magic, and everyone needs a quest. CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE, PLEEEZE.
I didnt want to give this book a chance because of the summary. I didnt want to because that makes another series that spreads an author im reading out and then i cant get MY favorite series a little faster. But being that the first taste is free... Well damn here we go again.
I came across Erin's books 2 weeks ago and have been devouring them as fast as i can, even forgetting to take the washing out of the machine and making me late for work.😥 I am now conflicted about which series I want the next book for. The potential for this series is making my head hurt. 😀
There are books that are very interesting and happen to have some steamy scenes. Then there are books that are basically sex that could have had a great story line. This book is the later.
It isn't my thing to have so much sex when the characters had just met. I liked the story line though. Wish it had been more story than sex.
This is definitely a unique plot. I absolutely loved this book. One of the main males rubs me kind of wrong with how fast he was but it's not a deal breaker at all. The main female also has a habit if being overly conscious and apologetic but she had some growth with that towards the end.
Overall I enjoyed the story. However it was very very similar to another series by another author that I had read a few months prior. The characters and storylines were so close that sometimes my mind blended the books together. That said I did enjoy the general concept and generally like this authors books.
I love the House of Garner books and the Artemis University books. Erin has an awesome mind to put these together. These two series are part of my main read again series when I can't find anything new to read. And lets be honest Inez, from House of Garner, and Tamsin, from Artemis University are just awesome women who know when to kick some a$$.
