Michelle Kaminsky is a writer with a lifelong fascination with criminal minds, motivations, and MOs. Her first book, "Serial Killer Trivia: Fascinating Facts and Disturbing Details That Will Freak You the F*ck Out," was published by Ulysses Press in 2019.

A native of the Anthracite Coal Region in Pennsylvania, Michelle holds degrees from Duke University and Temple University Beasley School of Law. In addition to consuming true crime stories in all media forms, she enjoys yoga, meditation, creating worlds with her daughter, and taking long walks with her Treeing Walker Coonhound.

Wrażenia: Ech... Rozpieściły mnie szczegółowe podcasty kryminalne. Coś, o czym da się ciekawie opowiadać przez 1,5 godziny jest tu lakonicznie streszczone na 1,5 strony.
Dla kogo: Dla twórców podcastów kryminalnych, ciekawe pomysły do rozwinięcia. I dla nikogo więcej, chyba że satysfakcjonują was kilku(nastu) zdaniowe fragmenciki historii.

I’m having a hard time deciding between 2 or 3 stars… Ultimately I think I have to give it a 2. As someone who is fascinated by true crime and the psychological aspects of serial killers, I was a bit unnerved by the flippant language used by the author at times throughout the book… it almost felt joking and/or callous the way events were described, rather than strictly factual.

There were some pretty big misplacements of text (a section of one case was written in the following “chapter”) which led me to question the validity of some of the information. I get that this is meant to be “trivia”, but the organization was jarring to get through, with fast and furious snippets of information thrown at the reader for each posed question.

Admittedly there were some interesting facts to be found about cases previously unknown to me. I actually preferred the segments discussing the older cases (1800s-early 1900s) to the more “sensationalized” cases of the 1960s-1980s that are better known to the general populace.

Overall, I’ll stick to true crime podcasts or documentaries for my information, rather than feel like I’m reading about atrocities in a game show-like format…

Kolejna książka, którą wzięłam do czytania "z przypadku". Słyszałam o niej już wcześniej, ale nie miałam w planach czytać. Nie sądziłam, że coś mnie może w niej zaskoczyć. Tymczasem okazało się, że mimo dość już oklepanej tematyki, Michelle Kaminsky ma bardzo świeże spojrzenie i nietuzinkowy pomysł na książkę. Poza świetnie znanymi historiami, pojawiają się też te zupełnie nieznane i przekrojowe. Najlepsza w "Seryjnych mordercach" (niezbyt to fortunny dobór słów z mojej strony) formuła: na książkę składa się 150 pytań dotyczących seryjnych morderców i przygotowanych do nich odpowiedzi. Teksty są krótkie, skondensowane, ale ciekawe. Zarówno dla tych dobrze z tematem zaznajomionych, jak również dla laików.

Początkowo myślałam, że forma jest super - pytania i odpowiedzi - ale po pewnym czasie zmęczyła mnie ona. Wiadomo większość seryjnych morderców w kwestii zabijania działała podobnie, ale brakowało mi czasami szerszego rozwinięcia, bo czułam się jakbym ciągle czytała jeden i ten sam rozdział. Dodatkowo, czy korekta w ogóle miała tutaj miejsce? Za dużo błędów językowych, jak dla mnie.

Over the years I have tackled a fair few books on serial killer. For each, they have focused on a very specific person detailing the lives and crimes. These books are always a challenge to read, dealing with such a subject it is hardly surprising. But for me I also find them to be very interesting learning the details I suppose helps to give context to headlines that try there best to go for the most gruesome aspect in an attempt to sell papers. No matter your view these kinds of books remain best sellers the world over flying off the shelf for those who like to peek into the darkest side of life.



In the Serial Killer Trivia book, Kamisinky chooses to tackle the subject in a different way to most authors in this genre. Rather than giving us a book that follows complete stories delving into each aspect of these horrific crimes. Instead, she dips into little bit of there lives to give us information that we may not know. Some are absurd others disturbing but each brings to light some curious facts about such people. She also gives us some insight into killers that were never caught or are currently at large today. Because of the way in which this book is present it means that should you come across parts you already know it is easy to skip across to something new.



I felt there was a good mix here of both killers that a greatly known and others that I had ever known about. It is a funny thing that we assume that all serial killers reside most in America and a few across the pond here in England. But as I have now learned this is a problem that is encountered all over the world. In part, this book serves as an intro to this dark and macabre. You can use the text found here to go in search of more information on anyone that is mentioned within these pages. As I said before she never settles for too long on any one of them. Even with what I have learned from other books I can't say at any point I was left feeling not interested in what I was learning. Maybe this is due to the quick speed at which the book chugs along. And in doing so it did not take me long before I was turning the last page.



If you are a die-hard true crime reader then this book will probably offer little you have not already read about in great detail. But for me at least it gave me a good couple of entertaining hours. It managed to raise a good few questions of me and also realize that there a probably a great deal of these killers that spent a whole life killing and where never known about. It is a starting point and a place to start if you are looking to start getting into this genre.

Bardzo fajna i ciekawa książka, która jednak ma jeden, zasadniczy minus - krótkie historyjki, których jest naprawdę mnóstwo zajmują 2-2,5 strony i są takim streszczeniem morderstw, opowieści o seryjnych mordercach, narzędziach zbrodni. To taka ogromna dawka wiedzy o wielu seryjnych mordercach dawniej i dziś tyle, że w pigułce. Bywały takie morderstwa, że ja zwyczajnie miałam oczy jak pięć złoty. Trochę szkoda, że autorka pokusiła się na aż tak krótką formę, bo czasem dużo rzeczy po prostu nie zostało odpowiedzialnych. Chociaż można to traktować jako takie kompendium wiedzy

As a longtime fan of True Crime, who tends to think I know quite a bit, I was often surprised by the new things I learned. It was a fast and interesting read, a must-read for any fan of true crime. I did disagree with the Author at a few points and there were a few obvious editing errors (ex: a sentence repeating itself - really, how did the editors miss that?!), but despite this, I would still very much recommend this title to my friends.

Bardzo fajna książka dla osób które interesują się zbrodniami wszelkiego rodzaju. Jest napisana w dość ciekawy sposób, bo cala składa się w zasadzie z dialogu, a raczej pytaniu i dłuższej odpowiedzi, która szybko nakreśla nam całą zbrodnię. Dzięki temu w całej książce możemy przeczytać o wielu sprawach co bardzo mi się w niej podobało.

I am so frustrated with this book- between completely botching the title of Michelle McNamara’s book and repeating one chunk of text in the wrong story, I found it lost credibility.

Książka bardzo chaotyczna, moim zdaniem za dużo spraw. Autorka chciała przedstawić w maksymalnie trzech stronach sprawy niektórych seryjnych morderców, co zdecydowanie nie za bardzo dobrze wyszło. Czytając w jednej trzeciej, już zapominałam o jakiej sprawie tak na prawdę czytam. Z rozdziału na rozdział trochę mi się dłużyła.

Myślę że, wyszło by dużo lepiej gdyby autorka skupiła się na tylko kilku sprawach i dogłębnie się o nich dowiedziała i je szczegółowo opisała, a nie w parunastu zdaniach. Zdecydowanie najgorsza książka typu true crime którą miałam okazje czytać.

This was a pretty interesting read if you're into this kind of stuff. Lots of cases that I didn't know, and others I did but learned new details. Mentions Bundy, Dahmer, Gacy, Zodiac, Son of Sam, Kemper, etc. and lists them as a question. Example, "Who foiled Jeffery Dahmer's plan for creating the perfect zombie sex slave?"

It's divided into chapters containing specific cases. Chapter two is dedicated to famous serial killers almost everyone has heard of at some point, chapter three lists women serial killers (my personal favorite because it alleges that women are also psycho), chapter four for international serial killers (not quite sure why this was a chapter all on its own; see why soon), chapter five is for lesser known killers, and finally unsolved/ongoing cases.

The only issues I have with this trivia book are:
1. International serial killers is used in a categorical sense, and many of them stuck to their own country and did not kill in different countries. Slightly misleading. There were British and other Europeans mentioned in chapters two and three. I'm probably being too literal though lol
2. It doesn't have a glossary at the end, which is a sly way to get the reader to go through each page. Nice One

I am also anticipating the day they put at the beginning of each serialkillerphilia writings a reminder that they are in fact disturbed, abnormal, sick individuals who need/needed intervention to be placed where they can't harm anyone or themselves. The amount of fascination society today has of murderers/rapists/cannibals etc. is getting concerning. I am one of those who does enjoy true crime, but there is a difference between fascination and obsession. It's okay to say, "Dahmer is one of the most interesting," not so much "Dahmer is my favorite." But that's just me. And yes, Dahmer is, to me, one of the most interesting, and I don't want to say my favorite because I'm putting him at a level of affection that he does not deserve and is not warranted.

Książki traktujące o prawdziwych zbrodniach, mordercach i psychopatach z miejsca zyskują moje zainteresowanie, nie inaczej było i w tym wypadku. Zarówno tytuł, jak i okładka zapowiadały interesującą lekturę, dlatego bardzo cieszyłam się, kiedy w końcu się za nią zabrałam, ale niestety nie obyło się bez rozczarowania,
Tytuł oryginału”Serial Killer Trivia” jest zdecydowanie bardziej adekwatny do treści, która dotyczy właśnie ciekawostek i różnych, często mało istotnych, szczegółów powiązanych ze sprawami seryjnych morderców z całego świata.Formuła książki opiera się na pytaniach (często w clickbaitowej/tabloidowej formie) i krótkich odpowiedziach na nie. Początkowo mi się to nawet podobało, ale szybko stało się nużące, ciężko było czytać ciągiem, dlatego podczytywałam sobie po kilka pytań w wolnych chwilach, ale bardziej dlatego, że lubię kończyć książki, które zaczęłam, niż dlatego, że rzeczywiście chciałam do niej wrócić. Dla mnie całość jest zbyt chaotyczna. Może stanowić punkt wyjścia do szukania informacji na własną rękę, ale zdecydowanie nie samodzielne źródło.

Straszliwe rozczarowanie. Ale winię za to głównie polskiego wydawcę, który dla zysku zmylił wielu czytelników - w tym mnie - że to coś więcej niż książeczka z ciekawostkami w formie pytań i odpowiedzi. Pytań często dziwnych i nieciekawych, których raczej nikt by nie zadał.

Temat ledwie liźnięty, niektórym postaciom poświęcono dosłownie pół strony. Osoby zainteresowane tematem będą rozczarowane, a te które już cokolwiek wcześniej o seryjniakach czytały, być może już wiedzą o konkretnych przypadkach nawet więcej, niż tu napisano.

Cóż, ja nie odnajduję przyjemności w czytaniu "encyklopedii", dla mnie kompletna strata czasu.

It was good reading this book after Lady Killers - because while it had so much interesting information, it didn't go nearly in depth. It was fun to compare what she highlighted with some of the women I had just read about.

All in all, I left amazed at just how many serial killers there are that I had no idea about and ready to restart watching some of my favorite crime shows.

This book is really a sampling about several killers, with interesting facts and questions that will get you thinking. Easy to read in bits over a long period of time and full of party facts!

Książka miała duży potencjał, jednak przez skrótową formę opisu morderstw mnie rozczarowała. Z czasem zaczęły mi się one zlewać w całość i dalsze czytanie było nużące. Wolałbym dłuższa formę, poznanie motywów, dokładny opis. Tak jak mówiłam książka miała potencjał, ale przez natłok wiedzy na jej stronach bardzo mnie znudziła.

Moim zdaniem zamiast pytań i odpowiedzi lepszym rozwiązaniem byłoby poświęcenie jednego rozdziału jednemu mordercy.
