Empathetic

It’s a thriller/mystery novel with a dash of humor. Here is an excerpt:

I pull up the window shade, to shed some light on the situation. My eyes immediately become squinty and ache from the sudden harsh light. I blink a few times to allow them to adjust to the brightness.
My head throbs a little. Did I drink last night? Am I hung over? I peer out the window and immediately realize that I am on the top floor of a building with multiple stories.
There is green freshly cut grass and four willow trees. I see a few gardens here and there with different kinds of flowers growing in each one. In the garden closest to me, I recognize Irises and Day Lilies. I see butterflies and bees buzzing around the flowers.
Beyond the gardens, trees, and freshly cut grass, I notice there is a chain link fence with barbed wire around it. At the top of the metal fence posts are alarms. Wait, what? Where am I?
I turn around as I hear a door open behind me. In walks a woman wearing all white, with short red hair and a weird shaped little hat on her head. She seems surprised to see me awake and standing by the window. She immediately turns away from me, puts her face into the hallway and says, “She’s awake. Patient 3913 is awake.”
My eyes dart around the room. It is empty and bland. There is a silver bed to my left against the wall with one pillow, white sheets and no comforter. To the right of me is a silver toilet. On the wall above the toilet is a small mirror about the size of a person’s head. I notice that the mirror is not made of glass and does not reflect very well.
“Um, excuse me. Where am I?”
