What does the marriage vow to have and to hold actually mean? Mia and Bode Calder have no clue. The estranged couple can find no answers on their own, so they turn to their friend and pastor. He presents to them a copy of their marriage vows, advising them to reassess the commitment they made to each other on their wedding day. Through a rocky trial, where each vow presents itself in the couple’s life, Mia and Bode discover the true meaning of I do. Join this couple as they sort out the surprisingly romantic quest to rekindle the love they grasped in the beginning, but allowed to foolishly fade.

Good story about marriage

I liked the story, it was well written but it dragged in places which made it hard to get through. I don't believe they really had major issues that should have caused such a rift but it's their marriage and everybody has problems that we don't need to understand. Unlike Bode very much. I didn't like her as much. It was still be good Christian story about a marriage in peril without cheating. I liked that a lot.

This book does not have your typical romance formula and in my opinion the synopsis doesn’t really fit the plot that much. I’ve read three of Lowe’s books and they’re all so different. She’s a good writer and I enjoy her style. The storyline is somewhat anti-climatic but it drew me in and flowed well. The book kind of gave me vibes of being a self-help book instead of fiction at times. And I’m sure it has helped many marriage relationships. There is a lot of mention of the couples physical relationship. I don’t mind reading scenes like these if they’re clean and really fit well into the storyline but I felt like it was a bit overly focused on to get dramatic reaction. Maybe not, probably just me here. I appreciate the southernisms, being from the south, they ring true. All the characters were well developed. Mia and Bode are so imperfect that they really could be walking through life right next door. No fairytale in this book. I definitely plan to read book 2 in this series and soon. I loved Mia’s sister Neena! Oh, and I’d like to mention the playlist. Some fun music there!

A very different kind of book...but a good one. There were 2 problems I had. First, in the preview, it sounds like you're going to read about how they "fix" their marriage by focusing on what they learn from their vows, but it didn't seem like that at all to me. It seemed more like a part of a vow was thrown in every once in a while because on retrospect it seemed to fit. The biggest problem I had though was the frequent sex, whether day dreaming about it, talking about it, or doing it. The scenes were quite explicit too. It was all clean, but just a whole lot more than what I'm comfortable reading. I won't be keeping this book and it's doubtful I'll get any other books by this author - not without vetting it very carefully anyway. I gave it 4 stars because I realize others don't care about the sex as much as I do, and they will probably enjoy the book.

Ummmmm....

Until I Do hits awfully close to home. It's given me an awful lot to think about with my own marriage ... with my own husband and why he has withdrawn....with myself and my own anger and resentment and loneliness. How do you do it, Lowe?

On The Bridge to Reconciliation

Beautifully written. Light-hearted and fun approach to deal with heavy issues. I found my emotions running the entire spectrum. Word choice and descriptions were perfect, giving such vivid pictures that I felt I was right there with these irresistible characters. Bravo!

I loved this book! Bode and Mia were on a rocky road in their marriage and neither of them want to do anything to fix it. Thankfully their kids do! This is a wonderful story. I really enjoyed the main characters and Pipsqueak and Maury!

4.5 Stars!!!
Lowe writes stories that feel honest and real. Her characters come across as people we would know or meet, and she shows us the good and the bad. This authenticity is one of the things I love about her novels. In this novel, she looks at a failing marriage from a Christian perspective. Which in no way means these characters are perfect, they are flawed just like we all are. I enjoyed seeing things from the dual perspectives in this story and honestly had a hard time putting this one down. In fact, I stayed up late to finish it last night.
I am looking forward to whatever Lowe has in store for us next; I have not been disappointed yet!

*Note- some fade to black scenes between husband and wife.

Wow, wow, wow! This is such an amazing book that will make you feel and make you really stop and think. It will make you contemplate the masks we wear that we try to use to cover up the flaws in our lives. How putting up that front makes for lonely company when we've set ourselves up so that we have no one to share our struggles with because we've made ourselves seem perfect. How so many times our lives are not what they seem. And it’s even so much more than that.

Until I Do is the story of a couple forced to examine the vows they spoke to each other and what they really mean and to decide if they're going to keep those vows. Ms. Lowe does an incredible job of taking us into a marriage, one that’s not what it seems, and quite possibly even showing us ourselves in the process. The ugliness that sometimes spews out of us onto those closest to us when we let bitterness fester. The hurt and damage we have the power to cause each other. The blame we place instead of looking at our own role in things going badly. Ignoring our own faults while throwing our loved one’s faults in his/her face. How wrapped up in our own selves we so often are. So wrapped up in our own insecurities, our own frustrations that we don’t see the other person, their hurts, their fears, and their insecurities. How we don't take the time to listen, to really hear each other. How we so easily drop the ball in showing each other that we value each other, that we believe that we’re worth it. How we become so caught up in the busyness of life, the tediousness that we don’t make time to LIVE that life abundantly and make it count. Thankfully, Ms. Lowe goes beyond all of that to offer the hope that is so desperately needed, hope for grace, hope for change, hope for redemption.

I believe every marriage has it’s troubles and that this book will resonate with so many. The struggles of the the characters will resonate, but I believe so will the hope that they find. No marriage is exempt from problems, and it takes intentional commitment to see a marriage through it all. This book will take you on an deep, real journey to seeing what that looks like.

I think this should almost be required reading for anyone who has been married for awhile. Seeing how Mia and Bode had become disconnected over time is a needed reminder for us all that relationships take work. I do agree that references to their physical relationship are a part of the storyline, but I do not really feel like that they are bedroom scenes. After all, there is a reason why God says that is an important part of a married relationship. BUT if you prefer a book with kisses on the cheek, this is not the book for you.

The neighbor was one of my favorite characters. And I did like the fact that in the midst of the heaviness, the author knew when to lighten it up. This was a tearjerker, but it did also make me laugh out loud. I liked the fact that both Mia and Bode recognized that they needed to grow together. Having been married for 20 years myself, sometimes I need to remember that marriage is work. Seeing this played out in fiction caused me to examine my own relationship and ways that I too need to continue to grow with my husband.
A great start to a series!

Mia and Bode Calder, married for some 20 years, seem to drift further and further apart. When they seek advice from their pastor, it's to read through their marriage vows, a copy of which he hands to them, and to reassess what each meant, and the commitment they made on their wedding day.
It is a difficult journey for both of them, finding the path that leads them together again, and both have to confront some uncomfortable truths about themselves.
A very well written Christian Romance, and a bit different from the others as in this, the couple has already been married for a long time, and is drifting apart, which can happen in a lot of marriages, because - perhaps? - partners take the other for granted and do not appreciate them, or at least show their appreciations anymore.
As I said, well written, with very sympathetic and quite realistic characters, real life happening. A sweet heartwarming story which I couldn't put aside until the last page was read.

Romance, clean; Christian faith elements; series but stand alone read
Bode and Mia's story was wonderful, hurting, and so heartfelt. I loved their neighbor, the stages they went through, it was so relevant in so many ways. Anyone would love this read, the hurts, healing, and lovely romance was so genuine, honest, and real. The everyday worries, misunderstandings, hurts that lead to couples separating, and seeing the healing, hope and romance build again was a gorgeous read for me. The faith element added to the story, and I think the introspection and self-reflection that came from their faith was a key part of my enjoyment of the overall story and healing. Their love, their future, and their family that helped give them the impetus to finely heal was so beautifully told and crafted. Gorgeous read and reading the second time was perfect!

Mia and Bode’s first person voices were powerful, raw, and quite relatable. Their failing marriage with their anger, denial, hurt, depression, confusion, regret and heartbreak touched me deeply. In the midst of busyness and rearing our children, we all lose that connection with our spouse to a certain extent. Mia and Bode’s journey made me realize what loving and holding and cherishing mean. I loved the huge roles their pastor and their Biblically wise neighbor had in guiding them back to the path toward healing and growth instead of destruction.
I can’t wait to read about Mia’s younger sister in the next book.
If you enjoy thought-provoking women’s fiction that will lead to self-reflection, you will absolutely love this book.

I was reading through my kindle. This story of a married couple with marriage issues lent itself to a a little more appearance and sensual focus than I liked. I liked that the author was bringing about that even in good marriages where people love one another, if they are not there for one another and listening, the marriage can fail without them wanting it to.
If you are looking for a book with talk of pretty much everything that goes on in a marriage, both when it is failing and then when they are healing with a bit of a sensual focus, look to this one.

Refreshing

This is the first book I have read by TI Lowe. I was hooked from the prologue. This is told in a She said/He said chapter by chapter. I appreciated the author allowing us to see the two main characters Mia and Bode being vulnerable and broken. Their marriage wasn’t fixed nice and clean. They both needed to work at it. I found both characters very relatable. I found this story to be very romantic as well. Great storytelling.

I can’t wait to read book 2. Thanks for the preview at the end.

Gritty and raw. A real look into a marital relationship between two people who have drifted apart. Some of the scenes may be a bit outside what is expected in a Christian novel but it is true to what can go on in a marriage. Married people are allowed to and should and show passion towards one another. Marriage takes work and sometimes the vows are hard to live up to but in the end it just might be worth it. If you don't want to read a novel that shows a relationship beyond a gentle kiss then this book is not for you. This is more like a PG13 instead of a G rated book.

Wow, double wow.
T.i. Lowe, through her masterful words, pulls us through this Christian marriage in distress.
Many strong emotions good and bad flow through the pages.
Mia's mother's wise words help jump start Mia's journey to repairing her marriage.
I am honored how God is returned to first place.
The best part of the book was the funny, goofy scenes.
This book is a must read for all married Christians and those inspiring to be.

I loved the idea behind this story. It's easy to get behind the couple and see yourself in their problems.
I didn't really love the writing style of having it in first person, but that's my personal preference. I also felt like she wrapped up their problems with a fourth of the book left to go so it was a little hard to finish.
Fyi, there's quite a few mentions of sex, although not many explicit details.

I would not recommend this book to anyone who isn't or has not been married. It's a good story, but lots of references to (closed-door) lovemaking. Most is part of the process of making up and healing, and a beautiful part of that process. But like when the kids/teens say, "Oooh, Dad, Mom, that's gross!" it makes more sense if you understand the power being wielded properly. This book made me cry a few times...

This was a wonderful story. It was real and raw, looking behind the facade that so many of us put up to make everyone think we/our lives are perfect. I really like how it is told from both Bode and Mia's perspectives, because it demonstrated the problems caused by lack of communication. This story can give hope to people struggling in a marriage that has lost its spark, to encourage you to find your way back to each other.

What a wonderful book

I knew when I started this book that I wouldn't want to put it down, but I also wouldn't want it to end. It was such a great, poignant, emotional read. It also had me laughing and smiling so many times. Great book! It will definitely be on my "to be read again" list. So many life lessons for us all.

Until I do is a MUST READ

The author has a special gift in putting to words real life issues that touch your heart. I read this from Mia's and Bode's perspectives and got a clear understanding of how each person felt. I love that their family surrounded them and supported them with love and encouragement. This book is amazing.

Another great story!

T.i. Lowe writes amazing stories and it is impossible not to fall in love with her characters. Bode and Mia are two such characters. How can they both be so wrong, yet so right? Travel with them through their journey of love as they, themselves attempt to figure it out.

This book was a great read. It really helped me look at my own marriage. Going through some emotions similar to Mia’s, I realized that I also had been taking things for granted. So, not only did I enjoy this book, I really do feel that my own marriage has had a reboot, of sorts. Thank you so much T. I. Lowe!

Loved this book. A young couple - early 40’s find themselves at a crossroads. They’ve been married a long time and they’ve drifted apart. They are challenged to examine their wedding vows and put them into action. Heartfelt, rugs at your heartstrings with humor thrown in. A story of second chances and redemption and renewed commitment.

Should be used for couples experiencing marital difficulties or even for those prior to marriage

There are a number of issues addressed here, Bode Calder is dissatisfied with his job and inadvertently, his depression affects Mia. He begins to neglect her: shut her out. She begins to succumb to the pressure of Lee Stratton, a known womanizer.

This story got me thinking. First of all, how many struggling marriages are in our midst--completely flying under the radar? Next, how easy it is to slip into toxic ditches. Finally, how redeeming "outdoing one another in love" really is. I highly recommend this story. Whether you see yourself within the pages or just become more aware of the relationships around you, God's power to redeem lost things shines through.

Until I Do by T. I. Lowe follows Mia as she struggles with a marriage that feels unstable. Feeling unappreciated by her husband, Bodie, she’s unsure how to repair their relationship. When their pastor encourages them to reflect on their wedding vows, they come to realize they’ve never fully embraced the commitments they made. I especially enjoyed the audio version of this heartfelt story.
