This book provides a simple introduction to the first 1400 years of Christian history. While written in simple English, it provides an overview that introduces the reader to the important church leaders and missionaries, writers and heretics, councils and crusades that shaped the pre-Reformation church. While giving most attention to the Latin Church, the major developments in the Greek, Coptic and Syriac churches are noted as well. The text was originally written for beginning theological students, but will be appreciated by anyone interested in the development of the Christian church. A companion volume, Readings from the Ancient and Medieval Church (to A.D. 1400), is also available in an Amazon Kindle edition.
