GOOD NEWS is that I can confidently say that Cage book I 1-starred yesterday was not written by this same Nikki Wild.
Other GOOD: Writing style of this book (compared to Cage) was much more straightforward, smoother, and well-paced. No weird language issues or POV-to-speech issues like in Cage. The best part about this book was the hot sex scenes. Even though the romance & characters needed work, the sex scenes took me to Sexy-smexxy-landia.
MEH or the BAD: ***SPOILERS*** Characters were ok. Both just really needed to grow up. Lacked character development so 22yo successful London-matchmaker h was still a doormat from beginning to end, when it came to 22yo British Lord's bastard son & playboy British-military H. Either excusing his bad choices or quick to save him or easily forgiving him without accountability on his part. She did kick him out 2-3x for his asinine remarks & actions but she quickly took him back the next time he approached her. H acted & thought like a hormonal privileged teen. It was too bad that he was pampered even during his British army stint the last 4 years, being a royalty's son. It was also too bad that he didn't aspire to any goals/ambitions since he seemed content being a trust-fund baby & hoping to reap his father's Lordship inheritance, when his father dies. He did start aspiring to become a better man for h after 60%. But too bad she kept nipping it in the bud by always coming to his rescue.
Didn't like that h was the main chaser in their romance. h was more into H, as she'd been crushing on him for years since her her social-climbing manipulative mom married his social-conscious British Lord father. H only began his attraction to h when they were both 18yo & he realized that she looked attractive now and wanted him in her shy way. He tried to take advantage of her the night before his 1st military tour but virgin h said “no”, when he made it clear that he didn't want anything long-term & that she was ridiculous to want something romantic with him. He did make some promising strides towards their romance & his overall character after the middle half. He made serious plans to re-enlist in the British army after a nasty scandal broke that was tarnishing h's matchmaking business. And was about to step into the Army office to re-enlist. But, here comes h once again! She stopped him from doing what would've been good for his maturity and their romance and told him that they'll both just move to France. So, they did and lived together there, with h financing both of their lives by being a silent partner to her matchmaking business. At the end, H didn't have a job & his father likely went through his threat of cutting him off his trust fund since both their parents now had a baby son together.
Ok emotionality. Bit of angst would end from h's attempts to rescue H & their romance.
Sexual History: 22yo h not a virgin. During their 4-year separation, h had boyfriends & lovers but no one special because no one topped her fantasies & feels with H. 22yo H a known manho. He laughed at 18yo virgin h's romanticism of him, during their 1 time fooling around the day before he left for the military. He was attracted to her that day but didn't think she was anyone special, except that she was the only woman hot for him that actually turned him down for sex. Four years later, seeing her again & his need to marry for his inheritance seemed to make her more appealing in his eyes. No condoms/safe sex talk when or before they 1st smexxed. Only his question to her in the middle of smexxing if he could come in her & she said "ok". Stupid.
3 Stars: It has many redeeming qualities. The characters were likable at best neutral at worst. The writing was much better than expected. I developed an interest that withstood to the end. The plot was nice, somewhat original or had its own unique flair. The writing was good, and the pretense wasn’t half bad, the romance was simmering with few exceptions. The male/female lead showed hints of abuse both verbal and physical, or signs of spot on or forced chemistry. It was a tiny bit predictable. Overall, liked it enough, entertaining.
4.25 stars. The book is not as long as it says, it's actually a short story however, there are a bunch a short stories added from the author. Still a good read.
Why does any author think having another woman fondle and arouse a man- even if they don't end up doing anything, okay? Beyond that, step romances can be good if done right. This was just 'we're technically but not technically related! ooooo so tabbooooo.' There's no depth in this writing, and it's a perfect example of why self publishing isn't always a good thing.
This is probably one of the better one's I've read from NW. I'm not usually fazed by stepsibling relationships because I don't really think they're taboo all the time. But I guess what I like best about this quick read was that the ending was not convenient at all. This was a story (set in this now all-too-common plot) that went against the odds, really made a go for it, and worked.
I wanted this to be a bit longer. I needed more of Tristian and Gwen to get a true feel that they were going to be a couple that could face their parents and get their HEA.
"My what a sexy Bad Boy Royal Prick!" This book will have you hooked from the beginning!. It is one of those books you hate to put down. The story line is amazing and the characters are fantastic!. Gwendolyn's mother married a Duke in England when Gwendolyn was in her teen's. So Gwendolyn got a new step Dad and a Prick of a step-bother Tristan. Gwendolyn develops a major crush on Tristan, but it is taboo to do any thing about it. Right after Gwendolyn turns eighteen Tristan puts the moves on her ,but she turns him down the next day he leaves as he had joined the military. Years later Gwendolyn is a matchmaker for the elite Royals. Now Tristan is back from the war and his father informs him his step mother is pregnant with a baby boy. Normally this would not bother Tristan ,but Tristan is not his fathers legitimate son. Son this means his baby brother will inherit every thing. The only way Tristan can keep his inheritance is if he can marry a respectable Woman. So he goes to Gwendolyn for help!. Op's it seems Tristan and Gwendolyn are still highly attracted to each other!. But if they follow through with their desires it will cause a major scandal!. This story is incredible it is suspenseful, sweet and touching plus very steamy hot!. It is a must read book!
A great and steamy taboo read. Tristan is the cocky bastard son of a Duke who comes back from the war in Afghanistan , still deeply attracted by his stepsister Gwendolyn who also has a crush on him. He " wants" something from her and finally after fighting all these years against , she can 't resist temptation . Their relationship is taboo and will cause an enormous scandal if known . The sexual content was hot and their chemistry electric. Love the character of Tristan , he's cocky & sexy as hell , but most of all I liked seeing his many layers : from a complete jackass to a sweet and caring lover when he saves Gwen's reputation by making "his own version " of the facts public on television . Gwendolyn felt the exact the same way, and despite what others thought, their love pulled them through. This is another great, sexy, and exciting read from Nikki Wild ! Received copy in exchange for honest review.
I wanted to love this book but the constant wondering where this book was set was off putting. I assume that the author is a fan of Downton Abbey or something similar from the bizarre conversations between some characters and staff.
A few things really got my goat, Tristan kept referring to the Army as Her Majesty's Royal Army, the British Army does not have Royal in the title because it is answerable to Parliament and not the monarch. 'Marm' was used repeatedly was that a nickname or was it instead of 'Ma'am'? At one point Tristan tips someone with a £100 note - not something that exists in the UK at the moment. There were so many other slang issues and language variants that I found it incredibly distracting.
On the whole the story was ok, it was just a shame that the book concluded at 33%, I would've preferred to read a little more about Tristan and Gwennie.
Mostly I liked this story however the fact these two kept calling each other brother and sister was a little bit too much of a turn off for me. Gwendolyn's mother and Tristan's father married when these two were in their teens. So they weren't actually related. Gwendolyn had a crush on Tristan for many years and after one night of Tristan trying and failing to get Gwendolyn to sleep with him Tristan left to join the army. When he returned he tried to get Gwendolyn to find him a wife so that he could keep his father's inheritance but these two had unfinished business and no matter how hard they tried not to they both realised they were destined to be together. Gwen and Tristan's parents were horrible to them. No wonder they found a connection with one another. Good story, writing style wasn't the best though.
This book was OK, a 3. I'm starting to get frustrated with all the grammar mistakes. But ultimately the stories pull me in & I just have to finish even though I'm frustrated. In here we deal with some aristocratic hierarchy issues. Which to me are stupid & outdated. Where a Duke hates that he has a "bastard" & doesn't want to give his title to that child so he waits 20+years to have a legitimate heir. On the other side his wife is a former mistress of a powerful politician that gets pregnant & hates everything about that & takes it out on her child. The way people do some things really does scare me sometimes. Power hungry people are the WORST in my personal opinion.
There were so many parts that I loved about this book, Tristan and Gwendolyn were great characters and I thought the storyline was good. The sexy scenes were fab too. I was however quite confused with the dialogue at times. It seemed as if it was almost a period novel, but quite clearly it was set in modern day... That threw me a bit, as did the £100 note, which doesn't exist. I was surprised to discover that the book contained 3 stories, meaning that this tale was much shorter than I thought, but I do love a bargain!
Gwendolyn is a match maker for the rich and famous of London society, it's her business to find the perfect man or woman for her clients. Tristan is her stepbrother, and a member of the British aristocracy, he has asked Gwendolyn for help in finding a suitable woman. There is one problem though, Tristan and Gwendolyn have had feelings for each other since they were teenagers. Sizzling hot read, absolutely fantastic!
I received this ARC free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was expecting a longer book given the 600+ page description, however, it is actually 3 novels. The other two didn't interest me, so I can't rate them.
Tristan and Gwen do have some hot chemistry. It is great to see how they handle their snobbish parents. The ending is sweet as well. I do wish the ending had more depth.
I really loved this book. Sometimes parents and step parents can treat their kids like carp, was so glad when Tristan and Gwen worked together for one common goal. Even though Tristan was a typical stupid man who doesn't think before he speaks.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Although Wild's smut was hot and steamy, this novel needed to decide where it was set... in the U.S. or the U.K., the slang was right off, as was much of the spelling (culturally). There were a number of spelling mistakes/typos. And this was most assuredly smut with a side of storyline.
The book is a good read, but it's three short books in one, however it was worth the price and it was entertaining, just wish they the books were longer!!
I wasn't really in love with either of the protagonists. I just didn't feel a connection with the characters and it felt like not a whole lot happened in the story. This was just OK for me.
I love this book. It was a light hearted fun read that had a good romance story line and hot love scenes. I received this book an exchange for a honest review.
