I stand at the nexus of the monstrous and the divine.
When a woman with horns and hooves came to my door, I could have stayed in bed. I could have ignored her invitation to a world unknown. Instead, I saved her life. And that changed everything.
She is a marvelous creature, with fickle desires and a mischievous glint in her onyx-black eyes. She is brazen and brash and bold — though vulnerable. She is hunted. But she is not without hope.
A goddess of resplendent grace and beauty watches over the mythical races of the dark forest. She awaits a champion to save them from the brink of a violent extinction. To protect the women I grow to love, I must abandon my small and backwater life to become something more. I must become her emissary.
A holy goddess who sees without sight. A muscled cyclopean beauty en route to the castle's door. A thirsty satyress with a penchant for cherry wine. Together, we will reshape the world.
WARNING: This book contains violence and gore, explicit sexual encounters, puppets, a goddess with no love of privacy, monster girls in mortal danger, a pampered prince, dazzling divine artifacts, insatiable women, blessed intercourse in a holy temple, death and dismemberment, a god whose anger ignites at deception, a pageant dressing room of hideous horrors, and a rapist who gets tossed into another dimension.
Silas Post lives and breathes tales of passion and wonder.
Where gods and beasts seek comfort in human flesh? He’s there. Where myth and magic clash with savage brilliance? Here’s there too. Where the gentle touch of monster maidens arouses darker desires? Oh yeah. He’s definitely there.
Victor Coin is a man with a small life — but not for long. He’ll pack up his tools and escort a satyress (a female satyr / faun) into the dark forest that lies just beyond his home village’s gates, embarking on an epic journey filled with mythical women, holy temples, and royal dangers.
First, the writing: This story is a pleasure to read, with beautifully-written prose like few books I’ve read in the genre. It takes a second to get into, but by page two I was hooked on the writing style alone. The story itself, however, is the real draw — with realistic relationships, creative characters, and a villain that takes some time to fully discover.
Second, the characters: The satyress is a lot of fun, driven by her desires for affection, wine, and dance, giving into her impulses a little more freely than would be civilized. Victor determines to do right by this beautiful creature, standing up for her when the humans they encounter snicker and sneer (or, at times, far worse). She is the first woman to form a bond with the MC, but not the last. He offers protection to another woman straight out of Greek myth, who decides to journey with these two to the castle / capital city, where she has business of her own to conduct.
All the while, the MC serves a goddess who hands him a divine artifact to protect on his travels. Her powers are unique, and it’s not clear at first what use they will ever be, but this goddess is full of powerful surprises — as are the other gods in this pantheon. I look forward to seeing what other deities develop in future stories, as their unique roles set them apart from the prototypical gods and goddesses of the mythologies we’re all familiar with. It’s an interesting overlay on top of a cast of mostly classical creatures — harpies, golems, satyrs, lamia, and more have come into play, with the promise of others on the horizon.
The world so far spans an entire continent, albeit a small one. We learn of other continents across the sea, the potential for allies or enemies in a looming war, and get a glimpse into what this world’s afterlife requires, opening a small and alluring window into the series’ future.
This story includes explicit sex scenes, and they work. Far from being gratuitous, these scenes are damn sexy while also building character and plot in ways that are important for the story itself. All in all, this book fires on every cylinder: writing quality, character depth, storytelling, and world-building. Another awesome series to keep up with.
Victor loves two beautiful women. The first is Rikki a Sateryss. He helped, loved and and protected her. They found a second beautiful woman, Jarah a Cyclops, whom they protect and love. At the behest of a goddess, they work together to find who or what is killing the forrest folk. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
It was a good read, The characters were Interesting, the setting had a lot of expansion to keep you interested, and the dialogue was decent. It was a little dramatic and Shakespearean which can get a little annoying at times but it can also be poetic. The sex described is hot, especially when a harem’s involved and the action scenes are cool.
If you like action-adventure and erotica with harem elements, I’d say check this book out.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read prose so poetic in its content and delivery. It warms my heart that an author chooses to paint his work with such a fine brush, and in doing so transform a sweet and somewhat simple story into something elegant and exotic. Charging right into book two! Definitely recommended.
The flowery olde-style diction of the MC seemed a bit forced to me, but I understand why it was used for this world. Books where the characters keep telling each other how much they love them and other heavy emotional baggage are not my favourite, and I found this a bit heavy on those elements. That's a subjective assessment, so if that sort of thing floats your boat you may like this more than I did.
Good book that kept me entwined in the story. I think that the characters where made to stupid. Nobody misses that much and is that blind from the get go especially when you start them as an open minded person. He would have questioned what he saw. But other than that the story is developing well and I want to read the next one.
So the verbal style of the author and narrator took some getting used to. However I was soon deeply engrossed in the story. The characters have plenty of room for development, and the overall epic theme is fun. Yeah I'll check out the rest of the series. It's enjoyable!
I appreciate the attempt to have natural dialog and the focus on the MC's romantic interests is their inhumanity. Unfortunately, the narration isn't very good, the plot is obvious and weirdly made, and there's little of interest in the romance at an emotional level.
This authors story flows like a smooth drink! From start to finish the story brings you in as if you are experiencing the story itself.I highly recommend this series
You are drawn into the effort to help the forest kin and the monster bring them harm. Defiantly worth the effort to read in one sitting, you will be awaiting the next book.
Could not finish this book. The way the author worded everything using 'flowery' phrased wording was really annoying, and you could tell very early on where the story was going.
