Why did Uden ever want to come to the mainland? Life in The Realm is hard when you have rent to pay. Azure explores various ways of making money but quickly finds that bounty quests are where the real loot is at. The only problem is that most of the bounty quests are classified as Very Hard, which has proven to come with the risk of death.
Follow Azure as he gets robbed, finally learns magic, makes new friends and enemies, and meets a character that turns The Realm upside down.
Phoenix Grey is the super secret nerd pen name of a USA Today bestselling author. She currently lives in a secluded podunk town outside of San Antonio, Texas where she can hermit away while working on books and playing video games. When she's not busy plotting her world domination, she can be found hosting game nights at the local comic book store or checking out the latest recommended anime.
She loves hearing from and interacting with fans, so feel free to stalk her in the following ways:
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love that Azure is having to work at developing his skills, and isn't simply getting lots of points to spend at a whim. I also like that he has to work at earning money, and it's not simply lying about.
Azure seems to have the worst luck in talking to people in The Realm, and it really shows in this book as he is able to annoy just about everyone he talks to. It's fun to see him learn the rule and mores of The Realm, and interesting to see how he seems to be loosing the real him in his virtual avatar.
It was interesting that we get just wee glimpses of the real world in each book so that it's clear that something is happening there too, we just don't have a good picture as to what it is yet. And I think that the next book(s) definitely have the potential to change a lot of things for Azure and his friends.
This series is slowing proving to be the best Isekai/LitRPG series I've ever read. It's beautifully crafted. The dialogues are superb, the conflicts are gripping and visceral, the losses poignant. In short, what happens in this world actually matters. And that's beautiful. Add to that a very good narration flow, an acceptable battle-time and not too intrusive status sheet inserts (although sometimes, we could have just cut to the relevant portions instead of getting it all), I'm happy.
My only gripe is that it was so damn short. And that's me being my entitled little prick. A superb job so far. Keep it up.
Mistakes: I found only one. Plot: Leveling up through quest and learning magic. I enjoyed the quest. Characters: I didn't like the MC this time around. He was greedy and acting very juvenile. His entire attitude just rubbed me the wrong way this time. 6.7/10 The MC needs to grow up some.
I had read book 1 of the Realm Between some time ago and loved it. When the opportunity came up for an ARC copy of books 1-3 I jumped at it. I didn't quite remember everything in book 1 so I reread and continued my adventure. This is a classic story of a hero stuck in a full emersion video game. A game so real, it cannot be distinguished from reality, well, except the monsters and stuff. Phoenix leaves tiny hints at real-life circumstances that are still titillating even after finishing the first 3 books. These "undisclosed" suspicions of possible evil doing, though very minor, do help the storyline somewhat. The characters feel real and the world is well constructed. Just like in a video game there are some parts of the story where the hero needs to "grind" and slows down the action but it is balanced. If you like LitRPG it's a must-read, and any fantasy reader will enjoy. This Saga could be considered for young adults also, but I'm an old guy and loved it so I need to find the next book to continue my entertainment.
The daily life of an adventurer is just like earth in some ways
You have to work to earn money and everything is more expensive on the mainland, starting with a place to stay. Azure is ready for his first spell as soon as he earns enough good to pay for a semester of Land Magic school! A harrowing dungeon run with the ‘knight’ who robbed Azure of all his money days before. Turns out the quest was to assist him and it will not be a pleasant experience.
Dungeons are dangerous and not for the inexperienced, death is waiting on each level as the adventurers try to conquer the dungeon for a legendary prize, a staff that can bring back the dead. Lonnell has plans for the staff that he isn’t sharing yet. Betrayal by his only friend in this world could be ahead of Azure disagrees with Lonnell’s plans.
The Realm is a dangerous world and death comes for many, few in the know what the Realm represents in our world, Earth, but for some, the Realm is their last chance at life back on Earth. Read on to enjoy the full story of Azure!
I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.
So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Had been looking for something to read and saw my mostly favorable review for the previous book and figured I'd check the next one. Complete fine litrpg, just not entirely enthralled with the world like I am with others. It does seem this entry is bringing back connections to the "other world" due to an interlude talking about bugs from devs standpoint
Overall useful system with some bits that I'm not a huge fan of (the extra low starting point and somewhat self defeating protag) but I definitely can see this being the better litrpg for others
Audiobook, great mixing and narration.
(Reminder: 3 stars means overall good, just likely not a reread from me)
Book 3 of The Realm Between series. Despite the course language, I am really enjoying this series. This book continues the slog of being a low level character. As Azure continues to try to find his place in this new world, here continues to struggle for money. I enjoyed the progress in this one as our hero continues to learn and grow. This is paced like epic fantasy so readers set your expectations accordingly. Great read and enjoying this series, looking forward to the next one.
Instead of racing through levels, this series moves at a bit slower pace. I like this as the characters are always at risk, especially the non players. At times this book feels a bit slow, but that gives more story room for better descriptions. I'll take that any day over one that careens along with me unable to even guess at the setting. I like the characters in the realm between. Decent LitRPG.
I will say again that the last section of the book did seem to drag a little, as with the previous book... but then what a cliff hanger!
Very intrigued that Lonnel, who I initially thought was a bit boring, has steadily been getting more and more interesting. Can't wait to see what direction that goes in. Especially with the return of a certain half-imp.
3.3 Now I have tried the first 3 books in the series on audible, and after 3 books it remains mediocre to me. There are parts I like, but I have to admit this is just an ok series to me. It has failed to grab my attention fully unfortunately and I'll not bother continuing this series. I'm glad I did give it 2 more books regardless, before passing my judgement and declaring this series is simply just not written for me.
My only real complaint is the books always seem really short. It’s not that they are it’s just get into the book so much following along and then all of sudden your hitting the end. I like the character development as well as I like that hero isn’t some god that his progression is slow and paced out to actually create a character that develops along with his levels.
This was loads better than the last one. Not a full 5 stars because there's still a lot of boredom. I understand, that's what happens when you grind, still don't like reading it though. Bet it's managed to keep my attention. Azure is a bit of a knob, but he's trying to be a decent person, so that's interesting to read.
This book got back to what made book 1 so great. I think the MC is finally evolving some. I also have high hopes that we get a new character with a brain moving forward.
Great so far. I’ve enjoyed each book. Some nice twists and surprises. The prospects for the utility side of abilities in this world is pretty interesting. Can’t wait for the next one.
I made myself finish this third book just to get a proper read on the author. Simply put the writing is boring. The focus of the narrative is like a bad reality tv show. There is nothing compelling about this series and I will not be trying anymore.
The third installment in The Realm Between series.
If you're looking at this title, you've probably read the first two books in the series. Nothing new here, just the continuing adventures of Azure. Fun stuff!
More of the same - that’s ok. Liking the slow development and that the main character has to really struggle to get by. The real world as a mystery will probably start playing a bigger role soon
I really wanted to enjoy this series more. However, the main character, Azure, just isn't relatable or likeable to me. He makes the dumbest choices, even when others try to tell him that he's being an idiot numerous times.
Yeah again just okay on this. Surprised that the dead brother came back and not surprised he skipped out on them. Everything seems to be a slog to progress in this for the MC, it’s okay but not the best LITRpg I’ve ever read.

A vast improvement over the previous two books in the series. The MC took on character and his decisions made more sense in the world. The plot sped up and finally seemed to take on a direction. Overall its a far more enjoyable read than what I've seen so far in The Realm Between.
Excellent, quite the thrilling ride. Always happy and sad to wait for the next book. Happy because that means there is more, sad because i have to wait.
Another awesome book in this series. Read the first three books now in just a week. I love the characters and the writing style. I am a noobie into the RPG lit world and loving very minute of it.
