.....’but this book will prove you don’t’ should be added to the title!!
A very apt title indeed for this unusually and uncannily current book, it wasn’t lost on me that the book deals with the woes of a PM who wont resign after a Brexit vote that has left the Country with the potential to fall into disarray......at the precise time Theresa May gives her resignation speech as the Country has the potential to fall into disarray whilst trying to sort out Brexit!!! a more up to date book it would be hard to find!
Its a unique book that deals with Govt, Spies, dark operatives, GCHQ, assassination attempts, skullduggery and everything and I mean everything else you could imagine yet in the midst of this ‘seriousness’ manages at times to also have a light, almost cheeky side to it....it could be disastrous but its not, it works and I am not quite sure how but it does and works well
And twists? More than I could count and not just perfunctory ones but massive whopping ones which change the book 180’ and then some
It is character heavy with main leads vying for attention in their detail given but ultimately Foxx and Connor are the mains and deservedly so....complex and unapologetic as they are they are both fascinating
The book has many sub plots and diversions and is complex at times YET retains its ‘easy to read’ focus
The last third of the book is like a 100mph car ride as it shoots along and no one is quite sure where it will all end
A truly different approach to writing that blended many themes and styles into one and I enjoyed and look forward to more of

This book was the bomb! So readable, so meaty (it was nice and long without ever dragging), and so very, very good.

The spy thriller is back. Eduard Foxx is on the run after a failed assassination attempt on the British PM. A protection officer on the podium with him was shot as the PM ducked at an opportune moment. The sniper's lair was found and all evidence pointed to Foxx who was supposedly one of the good guys. The hunt is on. But Foxx is nothing if not cunning. He has already picked out his bolt hole - the apartment of one Julie Connor, a low level civil servant from GCHQ. He threatens her to ensure her compliance. But we are soon wondering... did he shoot at the PM? Is Julie in on it? Well yes, but no, but hang on. That's one of the things I loved about this story, you were never really sure about the loyalties of either of them even though they were forced together through circumstance.

Foxx had been asked to do a risk assessment of the PM security arrangements and this is being used as a blueprint for the assassination attempts. So Foxx knows where the next and the next attempts will be. Ah, so he's still a good guy - but is he? As he and Connor, who turns out to have more cred than she first makes out, apparently try and identify who would benefit from the PM being gone the plot gets twistier and twistier as some suspects are discarded and new ones are identified. All the motives are in play - greed, power, revenge and so on.

There is a bit of humour, a dash of romance (but not too much thankfully), suspense and intrigue. And while people were killed there was no focus on blood and gore, nor was there a lot of swearing, so pretty much anybody could enjoy it. And of course it was so very topical as this PM is being lambasted for his poor showing in the Brexit negotiations, just as Teresa May is being lambasted for her poor performance in the Brexit negotiations and is about to step down. Apparently there are to be more books from this author who was kind enough to send me a copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review. And those of you who know me will know that I can be very scathing of poorly written or boring books with juvenile dialogue among other issues. I will be keeping an eye out for more from Holman.

Many thanks to @BookTasters for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A really good thriller. Gripped me from page one and didn't let go. The pace of the novel is fascinating: twists, threats, agents, spies, assassins. It's so full of adrenaline you don't want to put down till the end. You can finish it in a couple of days.
As long as you do not pay attention to the small mistakes of the book such as when the special trained members of the secret services do stupid things that not even a civilian would do.
Something else I didn't like in the book is that just because it has so many twists and turns it becomes unrealistic.
Regardless of these, the sure thing is that reading this book you will have an intense and enjoyable journey.

Someone is trying to assassinate the Prime Minister – but who?

I found this an entertaining read - an intriguing suspense / thriller, with nothing being what it seems at first glance. The web of intrigue / misdirection kept me guessing throughout.

The writing style is brief / to the point and the action / plot moves along at a good pace which adds to the sense of danger / urgency. The characters are all well rounded and initially you are never sure who is on the side of the angels. The plot has plenty of twists and turns right up until the end.

If you enjoy complex mysteries (think “The Spy Who Came in From the Cold”) then you’ll enjoy this book.

If you like puzzles and connecting the dots, this suspense/thriller (with a hit of romance) is a book you will enjoy. J.B. Holman spins out a web of intrigue that keeps you guessing and frequently sends you in multiple directions at once as the main protagonist, Eduard Foxx, and his very unwilling accomplice, Julie Connor, attempt to prevent the assassination of the British Prime Minister – or are they attempting to commit the assassination? From the first chapter, the reader is off balance, thinking that we know who the good guys and the bad guys are, but things are never what they seem. If you enjoy trying to figure out what’s going on you will have plenty of chances here.

There are many side characters, some introduced mid-stream, and at times it is a challenge keeping everyone and everything straight. The writing style here is very staccato – short segments of dialogue or action without a lot of extraneous material (except for a few chapters that go the opposite direction). The style is akin to quick cuts made by a film editor, but after a while the reader gets used to them. Overall the style enhances the sense of urgency and suspense as the story careens toward its conclusion and the many different puzzle pieces start to come together.

The book is reasonably well edited, with some notable minor distractions, and the author has created two principle characters who have deep back-stories and an interesting relationship. Some of the side characters seem cartoonish at times and there are a few places where the plot points deviate from plausibility, but it is nevertheless an entertaining and intriguing story and well worth the effort. I was able to deduce a few of the eventual twists, but there were plenty of surprises – the good kind.

Just one qualifier before I get into my review.
I'm reading this as a member of Booktasters; a friendly place where you offer to read and provide honest reviews of books. (Ed Note - I would provide an honest review of a book in any case)

If you like thrillers with twists and turns and lots of action, you might want to try You Think You Know Someone by J.B. Holman. The book starts off running and never slows down until the end. The book starts off with the 'assassination' of the British PM by a sniper. This starts an investigation within the British government by special services folks with shoot to kill orders. We move to Brighton where a man in drag is attacked by 3 neanderthals and rescued by a former member of the SAS. We will soon learn that all is not as it seems.

It's a complex, twisty plot that I won't try to describe in detail as you've got to delve into it yourself to feel the complexities and sometimes 'good' confusion of the story as Eduard Foxx, a secret agent, analyst tries to sort through the mess and prevent a major political disaster. Along the way he will co-opt Julie Connor, a mild civil servant into his actions, as they try to resolve the mystery of who is behind the assassination and try to survive until the bitter end.

There is a frisson between the two as well as a constant friction. Julie will come out of herself, gaining confidence as the thrill ride advances. There are frustrations with the book, I readily admit; all I think aspects of the political thriller. So many suspects all working together and against each other. There is the 'I hate you, I love you... no, I hate you' relationship between Eduard and Julie. But they are minor issues. It's a neat, confusing at times, action packed adventure and political thriller. Just close your eyes and enjoy the ride (3.5 stars)

This thriller really gripped me from the sniper on page one. I won't spoil the twists and turns of the plot but I enjoyed finding all my thoughts were racing in the wrong direction. Foxx and Connor are credible well-developed characters who kept surprising me ... and each other. The novel is well-crafted and easy to read with some brilliant phrasing. My favourite is: "It was a joke. Probably".

As an action thriller with a cast of credible characters, it is a compelling read. I can see if making a blockbuster film and I thoroughly recommend it.

I haven't still recovered from what I just finished reading. Haven't read such a twisted tale in a long time. Gosh! I'm still fiddling with the keyboard while writing this.

I always love reading thrillers with twists and turns all over and this was a perfect book for me. From the very first page to the last, each one of them is written with utmost planning and plotting. Kudos to author for this! Honestly I didn't have a big expectation from this book. I only thought that it's just one of those thrillers with nothing thrilling about it and that old story in a new jacket. But I'm extremely glad that my intuition went wrong.

The first page is enough to hold anyone's attention and the whole book was nothing but a rollercoaster ride. All my guesses and intuitions while reading the book went wrong. Once I thought probably this person is doing things but the next moment only I'm proved wrong. This thing happened throughout. This only happens while reading a great thriller and this was indeed one.

The characters are well built and each of them has a backstory which is nicely written. The writing style is impeccable. The language used is simple, lucid and quite flowy. The vocabulary used by the author is also great. The narration is praiseworthy. The way the author arranged everything truly worth appreciation. The speed was absolutely breakneck. Couldn't stop gasping a single time reading the book. What else? Everything about this book is perfect and thrilling.

Rating and Recommendations:

5/5. It's hands down the best thriller I've read this year. A must read for all thriller lovers.

You Think You Know Someone is a spy thriller fiction by J.B. Holman. The story is an adrenalin rush bomb of twist and turns of events, really a question of “You think you know someone”. Eduard Foxx reminds me of Gerard Butler in the film, Angel has Fallen. Eduard Foxx is the male lead character who is in the run solving the conspiracy of the attempt assassination of the prime minister.

I must agree that this book is a well- written spy thriller book. Though it is obviously a crime thriller story, the book is written that the readers will be at the edge of their seats finding out what is next. The book lives up to its promise of being if not the best thriller. I love the sense of urgency that each character has in this book; it is the very reason for the readers to be more engaged in the action that this book is presenting to the readers. I know that it is a good thriller book if I myself help in the unfolding of the events as well.

Another reason why this book is such a darling thriller read is the humor in it. I like the relationship dynamic of Eduard Foxx and Julie Connor. Their partnership and banters exude charm without pretenses. I feel in love with the characters that my issue with this book is I need some slow down because of so many twists and turns. But hey! I enjoy them as pretty much. I recommend this to my In Death by J.D Robb lovers.

Thank you booktasters for gifting this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Booktasters to choose me and allow me to read this book. It was unexpected .. it was 5:57am (GMT +8 Malaysia Time) ...

And this book took for quite some time to finish because i don't read action genre lately. So because of that, I just read and a go along with the plot.

Question triggered bit by bit. Who is Storinggton? Who is Tenby? Who is Eduard Foxx? At first I thought is this similar like Jason Bourne? In my thought oh .. Eduard Foxx is like Jason Bourne .. but guess what ... NO! .. or is he an insider plotting something to save the PM ..? And is it related with Brexit? I know about Brexit but I don't know the head and tail and also I don't the consequences if Britain do the Brexit.

Anyway, the action pack is there .. you can feel it and it makes you are inside it. There is one scene where Julie were chased by Blackheart ... man it gave me a goosebumps ... I imagine Blackheart is very very very very mean person ... killed without heart ... But I still don't see who hired Blackheart .. and why he chased Eduard and Julie.

The answer is when everything almost at the end. You will know who is Eduard Foxx is. And the rest of the characters. Trust when it comes almost the end .... you will be surprise ... *wink* *wink* *wink*

You think you know someone by J.B.Holman book review

I've  chosen this book among many others, I did it simply because I have never read any books by Holman, now I wish to read more, Although it was a bit blurry at the very beginning of th novel, because the writer seemed  to present all the character at once ,I didn't know whose who  because I was confused but then it got much clearer.

The book has took me off by its characters, plot and the twist at the end.it was unpredictable ,mysterious story that has suspense on each part of it  .I gave it 4 out of 5 stars    and thanks to Booktasters for this  approutanty .

You Think You Know Someone is an apt title for this thriller as it has a twister around every corner. One you think you have the hold of the story and suddenly there is an unexpected turn thrown up.
The start grasps you with an assassination attempt on the Prime Minister and races from it to unmask the persons behind.
Though every time it seems the conspirators are revealed there is a surprise.
The plot is fast paced and it is a entertaining thriller.
The shortcoming for me too many things happening and too many twists with that many characters hat sometimes you have to go back to understand but still a very good thriller.

I came across this book through Booktasters who offered me the ebook for free to post an honest review. So, here goes:

Has all the ingredients to be a good thriller: pace, twists, shady characters with ulterior motives. The writer employs free-flowing language with his fondness for three pithy sentences at times to emphasize his character's point. The twists are head-spinning but they don't seem contrived. After all, the background of the novel is Brexit negotiations which is pretty labyrinthine itself. The chief characters Eduard Foxx and Julie Connor are fully fleshed out and the background of other characters are also provided. But I must say I was not much impressed with the epilogue.

This is a really exciting book with a really exciting story. It grabs your attention from the start, spins you around many times and sends you out in a good mood. You unravel the plot at the same time as the characters and you are often taken by surprise; it is a real page turner right until the end.
It is also written with a great sense of humour, one that does not linger, but is casual and as fast as the action itself. The tone of the narrator is contemporary and irreverent, the dialogue is vertiginous.
You Think You Know Someone is great fun and if you like books, you must not delay reading it. If you don’t like books, I give you the same advice.

Don’t expect to get much sleep once you’ve picked up this book!

Wow! What a teasing, twisting, intriguing, adrenaline fuelled yet carefully crafted plot this is.

The characters alone take you on a journey of discovery,...just when you think you know them, Bang! another twist; the plot line draws you in to the same false sense of understanding.

The fast paced nature and latest unexpected reveal, leaves you yearning for more, couldn’t put the book down, and as a consequence, didn’t get much sleep!

I can easily imagine this as a film, can’t wait for the sequel.

A fun read, with an explosive start that evolves very cleverly. This is a high-stakes thriller that manages to maintain an undercurrent of cynical humour as one twist leads to the next. Eduard Foxx is a great tough-guy character. I enjoyed his inventive escapes very much - and certainly want to read more of his adventures.

You think you're going to guess what will happen. But then you don't. Im constantly reading thrillers and too often I can guess what will happen like if i were reading the same book over and over. This was not the case. I really enjoyed not knowing what would happen, every time i thought i knew the author threw me off. The odd couple dynamic between Eduard and Julie wasnt a cliché and I liked both characters personalities. Even though this is a thriller you can feel that the author has a great sense of humor, I also loved that. Thanks Booktasters for the book!

I always love reading thrillers with twists and turns and this was a perfect book for me. Honestly, I still have not recovered from what I just finished reading. Phew! J.B Holman has one of the most intellectual thinking mind I have come across, haven't read such a twisted tale in a long time.

It’s a gripping read where indeed nothing is as it seems and no one can be trusted in the complex world of political intrigue, even more interesting is the fact that Brexit is in the background.
The stories are entertaining and intriguing as well, with utmost planning, plotting and powerful characters. One of the best thrillers I have read in a long time.

I must admit J.B Holman just wrote the kind of stories you only see on crime channels, a must read! I thoroughly recommend it with all my thriller heart and soul. No option for more than 5 stars…..so I am giving him 100stars in words. Bravo J.B Holman, you have truly inspired me to do better in my enthusiastic writing skills.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful book of yours.

I really enjoyed this gripping thriller. It is a challenge at first to keep up with the twists and turns of the plot but well worth sticking with it. There are so many unpredictable elements it never ceases to surprise. Very interesting and changing characters keep you hooked throughout. More interesting for the fact that it is present day with Brexit in the background. I enjoyed the subtle references to other things outside of the main story and the way you had to remember earlier references to keep all the pieces of the puzzle together. It was very easy to read and the many chapters and sub-breaks mean you can easily read it in small chunks. I would certainly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a racing whodunnit mystery as I did. I look forward to the follow ups

This is a very compelling book. I am a great fan of mystery-thriller novels and this is truly a worthy read. It is about the (mis)adventure of Eduard Foxx, a tactician agent and a simple civil servant, Julie Connor, as they unravel the identity and intention of Dominion 1431 who commissioned the assassination of the UK Prime Minister. Although the first chapters got me confused over the Brexit status and its repercussions with regards to the plot, the last handful of chapters have revived my interest and the adrenaline of the story. Holman’s debut work is very distinctly British in context with the presence of the usual stereotypical objects like “secret service agents” and gin & tonic. I find the unlikely pair of the main characters refreshing to say least considering one is a mercenary while the other has sworn to serve on public’s interests. Insert various characters and shenanigans, and boom! - we have a convoluted tale which seems at first glance centering on power play and politics. But if seen in another social perspective, Holman is trying to deal how people easily pass judgments on impressions and what power makes of a person. He is framing the events patriotism, how far people are willing to sacrifice for the sake of greater good. One line that I find interesting is this:

“Justice was what mattered more than anything. Anyone who threatened that was an enemy of the State and, by definition, an enemy of his.”

The sentiment that the line is expressing is alarming and fallacious as it paints the matters in black and white, no grey areas to account. Throughout the book, one word that got me revolting is Wikipedia. Any government officer is bonkers to rely on Wikipedia to gain an information on anything, especially topics concerning terrorist groups and political intelligence regardless if your intoxicated or not.

Writing wise is simple yet effective enough to convey the atmosphere of the situations being portrayed. If theory will be applied, how do the citizens will be able to cope up with the crisis in confidentiality and public accountability? I admit I
never had the hunch of the ending. It was a satisfying epilogue with no loose end. If you think you know someone, truly know how the deceptive games of politics and emotions intertwine, it never hurts to try again and read this story.*

You Think You Know Someone by J.B Holman first published on 30th April, 2019 is a brilliantly written thriller novel with so many jaw- dropping scenes. If you're a lover of thrillers, detective fiction and action packed novels, then it will be rewarding and fulfilling to read this.

The novel centers around British's and any other country's political environment, the activities that follows in the aftermath of a top politicians assassination plot, in this case the Prime minister's and the various players involved in the assassination attempt.

The introduction of the main character as a frail person and his switch was jaw dropping and intriguing.....talmabout "how she had just became a he"!!. The unexpected twist in the character of Eduard Foxx which happens to be one of my favorite characters made so story so interesting and intriguing. Foxx, a sexy, daredevil, highly trained field secret service agent whose discernability and covertness was appropriately put into good use in the course of unravelling the assassination plot.

Another character I admired so much was Charlie Tenby aka The Trophy Wife - lol. How she flipped the switch from being just a woman with a pretty face and gorgeous body whose husband refers to her being dumber than a dead dingo's donger to a very smart, highly educated and influential in the scheme of things was heart racing and seat gripping. Much for someone who was perceived to be physically and mentally lightweight! You really don't know anyone.

T.B Holman's writing style is lucid, captivating and simple. And though I admire the writer's vivid language and plot twists, there were some plots that didn't really make sense to me. For example, the unexpected sexual relations between Foxx and Julie Connor aka Serafina and the sudden death of the sexual tension due to her conflicting sexual orientation.

Indeed, ".....all it takes to assassinate the PM is a million pounds and a bit of imagination."

It is an exciting, fast paced story filled with edgy scenes and moment. I will definitely give a 5 star rating!!

"I owe you a million thanks"

Huge Thanks to Book Tasters for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Let me describe this book in three words: FULL OF SURPRISES. I won’t be able to write a lot about the story because that would definitely spoil the book for you. So here it goes.

First of all, I really love political fiction when it comes to crime thrillers, being it from the U.S. or from the U.K. It’s actually based on the politics of the U.K. and that too about the plan of assassination of the Prime Minister. Seriously, what can be more intriguing than this.

The plot setting is original by the involvement of Brexit negotiations. Side characters, dealing with their own set of issues, make them worth mentioning as they drive the story to unimaginable parts. Complex relationships between them are also an important part of the plot base.

It gets you hooked from the very first chapter till the end. It feels like a roller coaster ride, you can’t guess what’s to come ahead. Every chapter gives you a bunch of twists and turns to keep on reading. It's fast paced so you can devour it in one sitting.

I really loved the construction of the book, when the story moves forward with all the characters performing their own tasks [in this case investigating in their own way].
It's an ultimate piece of crime thriller in which we get involved so deeply that we feel the very same tension as the characters.

The writing style is incredible, creating more suspense than ever. Witty dialogues and the important discussions between top ranked officers are superbly written. There is one character that I really liked in particular, not a central character but an important one, and that is Maria de la Casa. She is an intelligent and gritty character and very well portrayed by the author.

The title of the book is also very well kept. All in all, if you are a fan of crime thrillers or political fiction then this book will surely live up to your expectations.

if anyone is interested in a thriller with lots of twists and turns plus spies and secret agents, this book is for you! when I was reading the first few pages, I was a bit confused. the sole reason is that it jumped from one person to the next. I feel like I would've liked it better if it indicated which person's point of view I was reading. otherwise, the author wrote the book wonderfully.

so, the story revolves around who tried to shoot the Prime Minister, who to trust and who's an ally? I liked how at first, Eduard was introduced as a cold-blooded killer. I really believed the whole thing and was surprised to know that he is the PM's son and was only trying to protect his dad. I'm not overly fond of the main characters (Julie and Edward) but they weren't too bad. I understood that Julie had the right to feel threatened and not trust Eduard but I didn't like the part where she finally decided that she did believe him and then decided that she didn't trust him and messed things up and then eventually trusting him again. But I do like the part where they start teaming up, making calls and crossing off their prime suspects one by one. I liked how the author showed us what every character was thinking and kept us guessing until the end. there were so many twists that they started to seem far-fetched but I liked it nonetheless because the details were impressive and did not fail. I did not expect Julie to be in a relationship with a woman. I must say that it was impressive that the author made us believe that there was some kind of hope between her and Eduard. Just when you think you know someone! As for the revelation with Charlie, I didn't expect that too. I thought Charlie was just another side character to make the story good but I liked that part.

As a fan of mystery/thrillers, I must say that this book was great and impressive. I will surely recommend this to my friends!

This book has mercilessly tortured my adrenal glands!!

A political thriller with a whole bunch of crazy twists. The story starts with a failed assassination attempt of the controversial British prime minister with Brexit issues and following a manhunt by SSS,the PM's special security force.SSS thought that the would be assassin was e secret service agent;the one and only Eduard Foxx. But it turns out that he is our hero and the PM's adopted son Simon Palmer.

So our hero finds a female civil servant Julie Conor;who through twists and adrenaline rushes, turns out to be a secret agent working in a top secret government agency named GCHQ-2.Story advances and Fox and Conor team up,investigate 6 prime suspects and narrowed them to one.Though our little Conor tried to hand him over to SSS and tried to stab but it was romantically okay.Their investigation involved an apparently dumb women;the unlawfully married wife of their prime suspect who turns out to be a very bright women with a whole lot of money and a bunch of degrees. And there was a hitman who once was a friend of our Eduard but that friendship didn't go well.At last the PM survived the assassination attempts with the cost of his Prime Ministership;it was hell of a choice though.

This thriller have a happy ending with some unexpected twists. The writer J B Holman butchered my every expectation with mind blowing twists from page 1 to 308 though at first I found it annoying having similarities with the 2007 film shooter as it both showed risk assessment ultimately lead to assassination attemts but indeed I enjoyed it.A real page turner.I am not a British and Brexit and other laws that are discussed here are nothing to do with me;but it didn't restrain me from enjoying a good book.
