The book was mediocre at best. The book lacks something that stands out. But has everything a typical superhero book needs. Overpowered villain with one weakness, hero is special among special, typical friends who is willing to die for hero, a good guy turning into villain, I can go on and on.

The books revolve around Charlie who becomes renegade, trying to stop the evil fifth named, with the help of his friends.
This book is definitely not for the adults...

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH.
I'm sure this book and all it's characters were ground breaking in the early 2000's. The same cannot be said for the present day reader. This series was filled with 2D characters, unnecessary suspense simply for shock value and paper thin plot devices.
I give it a two star rating as a whole simply because I know had I read this series as it was published I would've loved it and threatened anyone who said it was less than great. But in saying that, I didn't finish the series when it was published and I'm older now so, I know better.
I'm only sorry I didn't finish the series earlier when I still loved it.
A shame really.

Very nice ending of the story -- and it keeps an open end for the possibility to continue the adventures of CB, the DT and his friends.

I really liked it as the whole series. It gave a different approach about the monsters hiding under our beds :)

Disclaimer: When I started reading this book, for some reason, I believed it was the first in the series, so nothing made any sense and it gave me a bad first impression.

Second Disclaimer: It wouldn't have made any difference, because this book has no redeeming qualities and falls into the bloated genre of shallow, thoughtless, pointless Harry Potter wannabes. (And yes, wannabe is a real word. Look it up.)

OK, so here's a quick synopsis: Charlie Benjamin is a magic kid who has no flaws whatsoever and is perfect in every way and battles a Super Rad Awesome Over-Powered Mega-Monster, who's really little more than some cackling crone, named the 5th. He's accompanied by his prepubescent buddies, Theodore, Brooke and Violet, who are equally flawless and perfect in every way. They attend some sort of academy for magic kids, and the adults are all plotting either for them or against them and blah blah blah... Headmaster... blah blah blah... magic sword... blah blah blah... Harry Potter... Together, they all make perfect decisions throughout the book, always being wiser than the adults around them, and defeat the 5th. The End.

In all seriousness, the terms "Mary Sue" and "Gary Stu" have been thrown around a lot in the film and literature worlds lately because of the atrocity that was "The Last Jedi," but if you wanted classic examples of what those terms mean, look no further than these characters. I don't understand why so many authors who write books for young readers don't give their characters any depth, flaws, nuances, or internal conflicts whatsoever. I could understand keeping the themes of their conflicts age-appropriate, but to have none at all is just lazy and bad writing. This story is just one horrible cliche after another. The reason these types of books will never live up to Harry Potter is because Rowling made her characters so much more believable and actually spent time weaving interesting character arcs.

I normally like to put a lot of thought into my reviews, but this book was so utterly freaking boring that I just can't put my normal effort into this.

On the plus side, Brooke does seem to get around a lot and finds some very creative excuses to kiss boys. So there's that.

Scarfed this book down in one day because I read the 1st book as a kid and when I found out it was a series, I ordered the other two.

Definitely my least favorite in the series, although it had some of my favorite Charlie moments. Overall, the book just needs more breathing room. Filler scenes in between all the dire action. That’s when your characters truly come to life: in the mundane.

The ending was too open for my liking. There’s ANOTHER realm? How did Charlie figure this out? Can Nethermancers portal there too?

Also, I was so so so disappointing by the lack of Rex and Tabitha. I said this about the second book too but I was hoping an actual romance would blossom between them but the lasso scene at the end didn’t do anything for me. I was hoping Tabitha would admit how she feels about Rex after he sacrificed himself to Pinch.

Their romance aside, Rex and Tabitha are such good mentors for Charlie. I’d like to see them spend more time with him. Charlie was talking, thinking, and fighting like Rex. Depending on whether or not Rex and Tabitha stayed as professors during those 6 months, I don’t know how he would’ve adopted that fighting style without their tutelage. Plus, I love them as a found family. 🥹 When Barrington was proud of Olga and said “My girl…” after she fought off the monsters, it reminded me so much of when Rex said “there’s my girl” after Tabitha summoned the initial portal in book one.

I also feel so bad for Brooke. She doesn’t deserve to be punished and stay looking like a frog forever. 😭

This series still holds a special place in my heart and I’m grateful to Dean Lorey for writing the books. He mentioned in the acknowledgments of the first book that Universal was working on a Nightmare Academy movie. I hope that can come to life one day. I’d love to see the story reworked with more attention given to the female characters.

Definitely needs 3 more books.

My name is Charlie, and I must do something about the monsters invading earth even though I've been exiled from the Nightmare Academy. No one else has a chance of defeating the Fifth, but it may be beyond my abilities too. I'm the only Double-Threat fighting against her right now, since Pinch turned his back on humans. The Headmaster says my only hope of defeating the Fifth is to retrieve the Sword of Sacrifice from the Smith in the Netherforge. This weapon can kill any nether creature, but we don't know the sacrifices required to get it. The Director is determined to Reduce my friends and me, but no one will believe the truth about what he did to the Guardian. My only hope of saving all humanity is to retrieve the Sword of Sacrifice.

You should read the previous two books first, since this one concludes the trilogy. Theodore was Charlie's best friend, and he added an element of levity and humor to the plot. His boasting masked his fear and insecurity, but he always stepped up when he was most needed. Despite his presence, this book had a more serious tone to it, as people were dying to a formidable army of monsters. Main characters experienced dramatic sacrifices in order for Charlie to receive the magic sword. Theodore had an ongoing conflict with his father, the General, as his father didn't provide him with any love or support. Living up to parent expectations can be a huge problem. The plot jumped around quite a bit, since Theordore and Charlie could open portals to almost anywhere in the world or the Nether. It could have been confusing, but it all made sense. My biggest issue was with the trilogy's conclusion. Yes, the conflict was pretty much lessened, but it wasn't resolved. The author admitted this at the end and said there was more story to tell. However, this was written in 2010, and I haven't found a continuation of the plot.

A wonderful conclusion to the Nightmare Academy trilogy! I'm so glad that it "ended" well, though I am a little disappointed that it isn't completely resolved. Of course, for it to all wrap up completely would be impossible and an unsatisfying stretch. So for that reason, I'm glad that there were a few loose ends that left the world open for more stories later on. I'm excited to see what Dean Lorey comes up with next, and I hope he writes more soon!

Charlie and his friends grow up so much and face so many dangerous and heart-breaking challenges. This one surprised me with how dark and difficult it got, and I was happy to see that even though the series is fairly lighthearted, it also deals realistically with how a monster invasion and war would go.

Marginally better than the other two books in this trilogy, just enough to bump it up to two stars.

This novel reads as slightly more cohesive. I can better follow the plot lines - even though there are still holes. And I actually started to enjoy the scenes of the quest for the Sword
of Sacrifice. This opportunity is taken by the author to develop the characters a bit, and the novel has a better pace to it. The ending is a bit too open for me, I understand this is so the author can write another book or series or whatever, but although this trilogy improve with this book, I won’t be reading any more material by this author.

I think this is really good for a middle-school aged book. Like honestly the world building is really good, but I got thrown off when it was like “and now I’m a man” boy no you’re not you’re 14 stop pretending I’m not buying that

So Slagguron dan Tyrannus berhasil memanggil The Name yang ke-5 alias Queen of Nightmare aka ibu para monster.

Well buku yang ke-3

"Nightmare Academy - Monster Madness" by Dean Lorey was my favorite book of the series yet. Not only was the story (book three in the series) epic, but so was the setup for the next book as well. The main plot consists of millions of monsters and their creator plotting an attack on Earth. Charlie Benjamin (the main character) was born with the special ability of being a "double threat", meaning he can both wield magical weapons and can create portals to other worlds. This ability is extremely rare and allows only him to be able to use the Sword of Sacrifice to save the world without destroying himself.

Throughout the action packed invasion of Earth by the monsters, Charlie and his close friends (Theodore, Violet, and Brooke) desperately search for the Sword of Sacrifice". This all powerful weapon can kill any living monster, even their god-like creator also known as "The Fifth". In order to understand this book, you must read the whole saga very carefully, because this book only briefly covers details of the "Nether" where these creatures live.

I can relate this story to Harry Potter because both Charlie and Harry are both isolated from the real world due to their special abilities. Both Charlie and Harry were invited a special school because of their special powers. Both boys also made their first friends at their schools, and these friends turned out to be really important and good friends. However, unlike Harry, Charlie is very close to his family who love him very much. In fact, even though Charlie is constantly being chased by monsters, he family choses to guard over him and protect him, rather than send him away. This is very different from Harry whose aunt, uncle and cousin flee their home in fear when the bad guys begin to grow very powerful. Like Harry, Charlie is very concerned about not disappointing others, and making sure that he achieves his goals. However, Charlie has a much better sense of humor than Harry, and his humor keeps the mood of this book pretty light even when things are really serious.

The most interesting part of this book is that in order to receive the Sword, Charlie's friends must lose what is most important to them. You have to read the book to see what they lose! I really enjoyed this book and thought that the plot moved very quickly, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I did need to go back and re-read parts of the other books because I had forgotten some details of the Nether. So everyone should be aware of that one drawback, because you do have to know certain details in order to fully understand this book. However, this book is action packed and very funny. I would recommend it to everyone.

This is the 3rd book of the nightmare academy in this book Charlie has been exiled from the nightmare academy and the 5th named has been reeking havoc in central park in new York and the head master can't help them because shes trying to recover so charlie and his friends are trying to make a plan to get rid of the 5th name so he will be allowed back into the academy from what happened. I like this book because it is really good you just don't want to stop reading it. it sucks you in and you really want to find out what happens next and the book has a good plot/story to it. and there's really no reason why i don't like the book but that's just my opinion.

Charlie and his friends are trying to stop the 5th named creature. With her tremendus power she kills of all 4 of the named creatures except for Edward and lets him gain the poewer of a monster when he kills Charlie. Now the only way to stop the 5th is to get the Sword of Sacrifice and needs the help of his frinds to do so as it's name suggests.
This is the last book of the Nightmare Acdamy seris and i found that this book didn't really have a ditting end. Instead of staying with his friends he decides to go into a portal in the Inner Circle. Barakkas tells Charlie that he can find ansswers through the portal and he also says that the Neatherworld was not always filled with and dark things it was once bright and beautiful. I think Charlie wants to restore the way things used to be and with that hope he goes into the portal. This was not what I expected, but in the end I still consider this a book.

I enjoyed reading this series despite the fact that it wasn't really my thing. I honestly feel like this series would be enjoyed more by boys, I normally don't feel that way about any books but these ones are an exception. I am a little upset by how the series has ended, I am wondering what will become of Charlie Benjamin and why he just left his friends. I felt like the end was disappointing but I am glad I finished the series and I guess I will just have to wonder about the nightmare division's future.

the book is at best average follows the basis of most stories the main character who is special among peers with an over powerful villain and everyone has their hope set on the main character with a power hungry good guy who goes to the bad side for additional power. My main con being the fact that Brooke appears to be a walking kissing Booth throughout the novel
*Charlie saves her in book 1
she kisses him
*Charlie tries to kill them when he is under mind control
she kisses him
*She is turned to a frog and in hope of getting turned back kisses both Theodore and charlie

Yet another great installment in this book series by Dean Lorey. Packed with action and adventure Lorey kept the reader on the edge of their seat. This story is a thrill ride that takes the reader through some unexpected turns. It's packed to the gills with good humor, and there is never a dull moment. This one is a page turn that will keep you up late into the night.

We have read all of these books together as a family and everyone loved them.
