Marriage by Fate #5
Kidnapping the Viscount
Miss Heather Duff met the love of her life. Then she let him go. And now she's determined to get him back. If there's one thing Heather regrets, it's that she let Lord Powell go. She listened to other people tell her what to do, so when Lord Powell proposed, she said no. It was the worst mistake she's ever made, and now she's determined to prove to Lord Powell that she wants a second chance. Gill Easton, Viscount Powell, has never stopped loving Miss Duff. But a gentleman has his pride to protect. He can't just let her walk back into his life as if nothing ever happened. And this puts him in a dilemma. He'll have to resort to unusual methods in order to get the lady of his dreams to marry him. In this case, the unusual method is to convince her to kidnap him…without letting her know he’s the one behind the whole scheme. Don't miss this romantic comedy featuring a feisty heroine, a hero who has to play hard to get, a meddling brother who doesn't take even a minute to listen to what someone is trying to tell him, and a friend who doesn't mind any kind of scandal so long as the cause is true love.

This is the 55th book of Nordin's I've read.
It pains me to write that this is one of the worst so far. I'm sorry to say this because this is one of my favorite romance authors.
Boring, bland, repetitive and made no sense.
The characters were cookie cut outs from previous works with different names. No back stories, lack of personality.. no depth.
The dialogue is equally dull and unengaging. It would be nice to have some world building.... some descriptions. The drawing room, the townhouse, the estate.. Make sure you have preconceived mental images handy.
The sex is also a rehash of all her former books, and my God she still uses cringe-worthy words.
No sensuality, no romance.
I skimmed.
I keep going back to this author because she writes about couples who are their 1st last and only loves. Rare I know, so I shouldn't complain.
100% safe

I'm sorry to say that I didn't like this one. It was juvenile to the point that it kind of didn't make sense. The characters were also caricatures of real people. I did like how there was no OP drama and that the hero was a genuinely nice person, but that's it. :(

After Heather Duff lets the love of her life get away, she figures there's only one way to get him back - to kidnap him. Luckily for her, Lord Powell is weirdly amenable to that.
This was a fluffy read, with almost charmingly immature characters shaping up to play house together.

This was a cute romantic comedy that made for lighthearted reading. You've got a heroine that first says no to a proposal by the hero, then changes her mind when he's betrothed to someone else, a hero who tries to play hard to get and the other cast of characters who all bring the story together.
I must say, though, that the heroine, Miss Heather Duff, was a bit too immature for my taste. After their marriage, she says they'll have so much fun playing games and cards and even play hide n' seek!! As for the hero, Gill Easton, Viscount Powell, it was lovely to find out that he was a virgin as well and I really had to giggle when his mother was very proud of stating that fact to whoever would listen! lol
This is a story that you can't take too seriously because some parts are a bit far fetched so it is in fact just a fun story to read:) Giving it a 3.5 rating!

"If you want something bad enough, you'll fight for it." Miss Heather Duff kept repeating that phrase to herself as she knocked on the door of Lord Powell's residence. What a terrible mistake she had made when she did not accept Gill's proposal, just because of those silly women and their club! But Lord Powell was now bethrothed to another and her conversation with him did not go well. She had turned him down when he'd asked her to marry him and now she wanted to say yes? It was too late.
Or was it? A determined Heather left the townhouse with her brother.
Gill quickly made his way to his friend Logan's home and told him what was going on. Maybe he could determine if Heather really was in love with him by giving her a challenge to win him! Let the games begin!
Such a delightul story filled with humor and wonderful characters trying to get together for their happy every after! It just made me smile and cheer these two on as they tried for their second chance. I cannot wait to read more by this author!

Miss Heather Duff let her petty friends influence her into turning down a marriage proposal from the love of her life. Fortunately, she's come to her senses and realized her mistake. Unfortunately, her love is now engaged to someone else. No matter. Heather is determined to prove herself to him and get him back one way or another.
Gill Easton, Viscount Powell doesn't really want to go through with the new betrothal his overbearing mother arranged for him, but his pride is still wounded. He doesn't want to just take Heather back without making her work for it; he wants to be sure she truly loves him and doesn't just want what she can't have. He decides he must orchestrate her kidnapping of him and subsequent elopement, all the while ensuring she doesn't know he's the one behind it. He wants her to think it was all her idea.
This was a premise I usually don't go for, but I thought it could be light-hearted, charming fun so I decided to give it a try. I've never read this author before and didn't know what to expect, but the writing style wasn't entirely to my taste. This was definitely quite whimsical and needed a suspension of disbelief. (For instance, these two were madly in love and yet didn't even know each other's first names.) Both main characters were naive to the point of unbelievability and lacked a certain depth to them. The driving force, as expected, was poor communication, but the farce carried on just a bit too long with dialogues that struggled to keep my attention. Both main characters lacked confidence in the other's feelings but the continued to struggle to prove themselves to one another without actually speaking of it lost its comic edge a bit quickly for me; it rapidly just became repetitive. Overall, this was a light and fun read, although I did wind up skimming just a bit toward the end as I struggled to give it my full attention.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

📒 This is highly entertaining and dramatic. Gill and Heather courted, Gill asked Heather to marty him, but she said no, on the advice of a woman from a ladies group she belonged to. Later she realizes that she made a mistake and went to beg him to marry her, even though he was betrothed to another woman. He tells her no and says if she loved him, she would fight for him. So she tries, while he is helping but not telling her that he is. The first attempt is at a ball, where her over-eager, feather brain brother saves Gill from his fanciful sister and apologizes profusely promising it will never happen again. (He is beyond dumb and irritating.) And without giving anything away, he later turns into super over-eager, stubborn and dense brother. It's a great story that highly recommend.

There are three great characters in this book.
1. A viscount who, after being rejected by a young lady, decides he needs evidence of her love when she wants him back--and of course this evidence must be that she is willing to seduce him, get caught in a scandal with him, kidnap him, and force him to marry her. Because otherwise, how will he know she really loves him? (Gill is just a needy needy man who wants to get dommed.)
2. A young lady who only needs the slightest suggestion to attempt said kidnapping scheme.
3. A very sensible older brother who first, on finding the viscount and young lady kissing, does not (unlike ANTHONY FUCKIGN BRIDGERTON) decide he must force them to get married, but simply separates the two and tells the young lady not to harass the viscount. And who is willing to rescue the viscount from her kidnapping and forced marriage schemes. Honestly the dude deserves more appreciation! the one sane man! it's not his fault he's in an insane romance novella, he's trying his best.

FLIPPING AND TRIPPING!!!
Jaw dropping! Ruth captivated me from the first page. I was floored by this refreshing spin on this take of the Regency Era no-no. You can not help but fall in love. All the botches, trips, snags, mishaps and mayhem takes you on one incredible adventure with this unconventional storyline and thrilling plot. This baby showcases 100% on point realism, kicking up a churning vortex chocked-full of vexing circumstances and a slew of surprising events that keep you flipping page after page. Sparks fly as drama and suspense ensues in epic proportions. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and traits that rock this baby to its core. The scenes are described so colorfully you have no trouble interpreting each scenario as they play out it in your mind's eye smooth as silk. Remarkable job Ruth, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.

I loved this delightful romantic comedy set in the Regency era. It has charming characters and a wonderful storyline that flows nicely from start to finish. There is a lot of humour, misunderstandings, and sweet romance, making this a delight to have with you for an afternoon's read.
This is the first I have read in the series and I would love to read more.

This is a charming historical romance, with a well thought out storyline and characters who jump off the page. Full of romance, a bit of intrigue and enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, this story is a very entertaining read. The touches of humour throughout add depth and make the tale even more engaging and enjoyable.

Amusing
The storyline sounded interesting and amusing, unfortunately, it was disappointing. The idea of the heroine kidnapping the man she loves is original and comical but the way it was carried out was ludicrous and clumsy. It was totally unbelievable and made no sense. It was an insult to the readers’ intelligence. Also, the dialogue was repetitive and awkward. But the characters were likeable and engaging. In spite of the plot, it was still amusing.

4.5 stars. Heather tries so hard to fix her mistake of rejecting Gill's marriage proposal and ends up in a world of problems. I liked getting to see Logan from Ruined by the Earl again. He does his best to help out the two. Gill wants to know that Heather is sincere in her desire to marry him. He concocts a plan to get her to prove it. The story is light and fun.

This story has an interesting premise and characters. I enjoyed both Gill and Heather and their romance. Their time together and Gill’s friend were fun scenes. There were times when I really enjoyed this story and other times when it felt disjointed and I became confused with the story and why things were happening.

Ruth Ann Nordin never fails to write an enjoyable, engaging romance worth the read. This one is a tale of second chances and forgiveness, with plenty of humor along the way.

Some of Nordin’s books I have loved, and some I have no time for. Unfortunately this book falls into the latter category. It espouses the historic period better than a lot of Nordin’s Regency stories; however both characters, and particularly Heather Duff are very childish in manner and speech.

Very Sweet
I loved this book from beginning to end. It was sweet, funny, and absolutely wonderful to read. I was even surprised that it was her brother who . . . Nevermind, I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet.

Kidnapping the Viscount by Ruth Ann Nordin
Heather Duff and Gill Easton, Viscount Powell are the main characters. Heather had turned down Gill marriage proposal because she felt led to be the group she was in. She regrets the decision and decides that she just has to have Gill. She makes and effort to be near him and he decides that he still has feelings for her and wants to know if she will try to kidnap and marry him and she does so he knows that she most love him. They have lots of obstacles to overcome in the book and it was a fun read. I received an arc to review and really enjoyed the book and recommend to anyone looking for a fun read.

Historic Romantic Comedy
Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen novel. I'm convinced that story is the inspiration for this book, but this story is has far more twists and wacky turns. It's funny, ridiculous at times, but enjoyable.
