Sage is a woman with no time for games. She has teenagers to raise, a business to run and the father of her girls to manage... literally. So, when she goes on a date with JJ and he never calls again, she chalks it up to just another horrible date. Besides, she didn’t like JJ, his dimples or his muscles covered in tattoos anyway. It’s those little lies that help you get through life!
JJ screwed up and he knows it! He went out with the woman of his dreams and like a moron never called her again. In his defense, life turned crappy right about then so he’s sure she’ll be understanding, it’s not like women hold onto grudges... okay, fine, he’ll need help plus a prayer to get Sage to forgive this colossal mess up.
But their story is far from over. After all, they’ve both been through enough bad times in their lives it’s only fair they get a happily ever after... right? Only trouble is, no one ever said life had to be fair.

Nikki Mays is a pen name that was created from her maiden name. She is a wife and mother, who lives in a small town in New Jersey. She has been with her husband for well over a decade and is surprised that he's still alive. She has 3 small boys that she loving refers to as her hellions. Seriously, they only look sweet and innocent. She began writing as a creative outlet after becoming a stay at home mom. She decided that she needed something exclusively for herself, not just being mommy. She has two crazy boxers that legitimately think that they're humans but graciously share "their" couch with the rest of the family. Besides writing and spending time with her little hellions, she enjoys cooking and baking. She has recently taken up gardening and made her loving husband plant her a mini fruit tree orchard, that unfortunately deer get to eat more of than she does. Life living in the woods can be a pain at times! Nikki loves to be stalked by her readers and encourages all interaction.

UPDATE: MAJOR SPOILERS!!!

This was a buddy read with my friend Jane who is too lazy to write a review of her own and made me re-write it because her skanky ass didn't like the first!👹 LOL.

This is a story about two single parents. Kids are awesome, but for J & I, heroine's ex stole the show! We loved the relationship they had and how he was not only a great Dad, but supportive, protective, loyal, mega HOT, funny and downright awesome! (WHY couldn't HE have been the Hero Author?????!!!😭😪😪).

I don't normally like reading stories where the MC's have kids with OP, but this one for some reason worked because they both had kids before they ever met.

Hero: He is in his 40's and a cop (or something). He is not a Manho & there is no OW drama. He has a 15 yr old daughter from a fling he had when he was in the marines & got her pregnant. He married his baby momma who turned out to be a skank and a bad mother whom his daughter can't stand. He spent 14 or so years with her and finally got divorced from her when he caught her with OM in their bed & he celebrated that outcome with a lot of hallelujahs!

When book opens, we learn that he & heroine went on a date and afterwards he ghosted her because he had to answer a call from a friend & because he learned that his divorce is not final due to a clerical error where papers were never filed. So he feels it would be wrong & that heroine would be upset to learn he is still married to the skank.

After a lot of pushing & shoving his ass patootie from friends, he finally gets the balls to to talk & pursue heroine! (hallelujah!).

Heroine: She is in her 30's & gorgeous. She & her ex, Danny, were dating in HS and when they were 15, she got pregnant and became parents at 16. They never married but they became a close knit family the 4 of them (heroine, ex & twins) and the relationship they have was just amazing! They are now platonic friends, business partners and more like siblings. Even Hero stated several times how he loves their relationship! Lol.

When Hero & heroine finally have that talk (with the help of friends, her ex & the three 15 yrs old matchmaking girls), they then become a couple and for the rest of the story, there's a lot of dialog of bantering between friends, her ex & his dating life (which includes some drama with Danny's former crazy ONS stripper who is out to cause trouble to the heroine & the girls).

We had to skip the many pages of dialogue because it became redundant after a while, especially to those of us who have never read any of the previous books and couldn't keep track of who is who & who is dating whom!

Anyway, there is a bit of slut shaming here (some that deserve it BTW) and a weird relationship that develops between Hero & her ex Danny (bromance) which even the heroine found strange! Lol. BTW - we loved how her ex loved Hero's daughter like his own! (swoon-worthy moment for us!)

What we hated? The epilogue in which after Hero & heroine get married, they got drunk in Vegas and forgot the condom & got pregnant! Both MCs said they didn't want any more kids and Hero got a vasectomy (though a bit too late for that! IMO). Their reaction and what they said though about the baby had us fuming! Kids are a gift and even though this is fictional and I guess Author was trying to be funny, it fell flat to us and reason why it went from a 4 star to 3!

There is some part of a redemption at the end to clean up that image by introducing us to their sweet son who was said to be a great baby, but it was a bit too little/too late for this Mamma bear (Jane was a little more forging then me!😄).

I also hated that heroine's ex, Danny, found out she was pregnant BEFORE Hero! That was a douche move if you ask me and they did make him an honorable Godfather of their little boy so that was kinda sweet, especially since the ex adopted all the kids and the Hero. So they all lived happily ever fictional after and this reader is now done. No more rewrites and no more writing reviews for non-friends who are too lazy to write their own! THE END.

❝ I was thinking that it would suck if she killed him too because then I would never get to find out if he had buns of steel. That got me thinking of cinnamon buns and how much I could really go for one right now.❞

Another funny as hell story from Nikki Mays, Protected by You is a story about JJ and Sage with their amazing kids. This series has a really interesting characters with JJ leading the craziest (or homicidal😂) SWAT team I’ve ever read😅
I also like the involvement of the triplets of terror in the story 😂 I think it was really the highlight of it. I can't help but laugh every time I remember it😂. There was never a dull moment. It was a story full of banter and crazy moments. 👏🏻👍🏻

This was a good read. Sage and JJ went out but he never called. Needless to say, that didn't go well. However, with the help of their kids they got another chance. This time they got their HEA.

So I have been waiting for this book! After reading the last book which featured Marc and Kay and made me a huge fan of Nikki that made me purchase the previous books I couldn't wait for this one. This is Sage and JJ's book, I have to say I kind of wanted JJ to try beg a little more since he had screwed up in not calling Sage after 1st date, I felt that she gave in too soon, I wanted to see what the crazy band of guys would come up with, but it is what it is..Loved Danny he was hilarious and the twin and Paige's alliance was awesome, these kids are truly fear inspiring..Can't wait for Rocco and Declan stories and now Danny's..Enjoy

Title: Protected by You
Author: Nikki Mays
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ARC received in return for an honest review.

Unbeknownst to their friends Sage and JJ went out on a date, one which she thought went rather well however JJ never called her after said date and he now acts like nothing happened between them. JJ’s the first person to admit he screwed up by not calling Sage but things were a little chaotic, their mutual friends had some trouble on their doorstep, by the time that had been dealt with JJ felt as if maybe he’d let any chance he had with her slip through his fingers, not one to give up and with the help of three 15yr old girls, JJ gets another chance with the woman who’s quickly gotten her way under his skin and into his heart. JJ and Sage alongside three teenagers, one crazy ex, one ex who’s a hot sexy alpha, MMA fighter and a bunch of funny, crazy friends make Protected by You another fantastic, five star read from this talented author.

I only recently discovered Nikki Mays and her SWAT team hunks, having binge read the previous books I was beyond excited to receive an ARC of Protected by You, it may be a standalone but to understand the full camaraderie of this group of friends it would be best if the previous books were read plus they really are great books, well worth reading.

A fantastic read with some great characters. Loved Sage and Danny and their daughters Missy and Becca. I loved JJ and Paige too. How they were with each other. Had me in fits at times especially the twins and Paige. Brilliant. 5*. Highly recommended.

Another book to love and move to the favorites! Protected by You brings us JJ and Sage story and the rest of that amazing gang.

Prepare to laugh, feel butterflies, want to commit murder LOL and fall in love. JJ and Sage are a perfect couple, their daughters are also a perfect match and even Danny makes a great family. Although sometimes I felt weird out by Danny and JJ and Sage but overall it was good.

I love this gang and can't wait for the rest of the series!

This book was awesome!
Sage and JJ are definitely one of my favourite fictional couples. Their banter, their love for one another and their crazy ass lives was brilliant.
The interaction between the families/friends just gets better with each book.
I devoured this book and was hooked from the first page.
A MUST read!!! Great job Nikki, I look forward to reading more by you!

Ugh, I really want to like these guys and I think if the story wasn't so repetitive and if they didn't constantly talk about murdering each other and if there weren't so many issues with missing words and grammar I would so love this series. I don't find the humor in misbehaving children, it is just not my thing. I don't find attitude and inappropriate language and throwing paint on people funny especially when it is done by children. I just feel like I struggled with this book more than the first 3. I want to move on to the next book but I honestly just don't know....

Lots to really like about this one.

The long-suffering Sage being the main thing.

But... little confused... Sage is 34. The twins are 15... even tho they are the same age as Paige... who is 14. Sage got pregnant at 16... so, let's say she was 17 when she gave birth for argument's sake... 15 + 17 = 32. See my confusion?

( and, I just ignore all of the man-whores who are prevalent in this series. Hate 'em... just hate 'em... )

OMG. I didn't think thia series could get any crazier. JJ and Sage were hikarious as were their daughters. The gang as usualnwas hilarious and the various hijinks that abounded were great.

I must say that I am hoping beyond hope that there is a spin-off or new series with Danny, Dee and her sons. Also, maybe a book into the future so we can see what happens with the kids.

Heat level was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Now on to book 5. 😁

I would rate this book much higher, maybe even 4 stars, if it was actually focused on the supposed main characters. 75% of the book, it seemed like, was the ex, Danny, talking, being talked to, being talked about, or being thought about. I get he’s a cool character, and I’m pretty sure that he has his own book out there, but JJ and Sage deserved their own book and, sadly, didn’t get it.

Sage had to move on, she couldn't wallow in hurt feelings. Sure, she thought her and JJ had an awesome first date but obviously he didn't. Sure, a good friend was shot right after that date so that could have explained a delay in calling her back. But facts were facts and the fact was JJ ghosted her. Sage has resigned herself to seeing him around since they have the same circle of friends. Too bad she still thinks he is the hottest man alive. JJ doesn't know what to do. He knows he has blown his only chance with this amazing woman. He is just going to have to dig deep and man up if he wants to win Sage's heart.

EEEEEEEEEE! I literally screamed when I saw this awesome lady had a new book in the SWAT series. I have been desperate for Sage and JJ's book and I had so much fun watch them get together. I made myself read it in small increments so that I didn't finish it too quickly, I didn't want it to end. The dialogue that Nikki Mays writes needs to be read out loud, needs to be released in audio, asap! I loved the progression of their relationship as they created a family, unconventional for sure but amazing nonetheless. Previous reviews have mentioned that JJ should have groveled a little more when he apologized for ghosting Sage. I love a good grovel but it wouldn't have fit the personality of either character. Sage knew he was being truthful and didn't need to make him feel any worse than he already did. I have loved all the previous books and Protected by You has joined their ranks on my keeper shelf. It was so darn sweet and sexy; it was just plain adorable! I cannot wait for the next in the series featuring Rocco and Sage's sister Lavender. 6 stars for Protected by You!

Sage and JJ tried this once. But after a great first date it never went further. JJ had to fix this and with the help of his teenager and sage's twins he got the ball moving.

Together alongside the SWAT team, their wives and kids, Danny and the Ross brothers and Dee things are always happening.

Especially when a two night stand comes back and turns psycho.

Nikki is great at making hilarious, steamy and wonderful crazy characters. Especially these parents of teens. This book is a great read full of banter, steaminess and such a closenit group. I think that's the best part, how incredibly close each person is. The guys hang out at work and outside of it. The girls hang out. The children hang out and the teens help everyone. I also love the dynamic between Danny and Sage- best co-parenting situation ever.

I hope Lavender and Rocco figure their stuff out. I want to see Declan fall head over heels. And I'd love to see Danny find his HEA (maybe his own story) and same for the Ross brothers (even updates in passing about their HEAs).

Also could do with a timetable with family tree. With this large group trying to keep track between Morris falling for Millie and Sage and JJ's completed family gotta keep track of when it all went down. Loved the epilogue. Haha someone was laughing when they got given that heads up.

When at Lowes with her ex husband and business partner Safe tells him to be quiet when he asks if JJ the seat cop was the man that ghosted her after a great date. She says yes but forget it.He says don;t you want to know why?She says it doesn;t matter he must not have been interested. When she says she;s going to get the paint mixed she turns an runs right into a muscle bound chest as she almost falls he catches her. When she looks up its JJ .He says hi Sage. How have you been thats when her ex says well at least we know his hands work. He lets her go an as her ex keeps making smart remarks JJ says see you later Sage. Now she wants to kill her ex even if hes her best friend an the father of her twin daughters that seem to be spawn of the devil at times. J J wants Sage so much but when he found out his divorce wasnt final he freaked out licking himself in his house not talking to anyone except at work then went home an for drunk each night. He knows he blew it but he wants another chance with this woman just one date an he feels shes the one .There is action ,suspense, lite hearted joking between a bunch of friends and some hot sex scenes.I loved the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see whats next by this multi talented author.

DnF @14٪.

SPOILERS AHEAD

I'm honestly perplexed how this book has been rated so highly. Don't get me wrong, I love the banter in her books but, this author doesn't know how to keep track of her timelines and obviously doesn't edit. So many typos and repeats and inconsistencies in books 2 and 3 I was struggling to finish them. It became quickly apparent it would be the same in this one as well so I returned it for a refund since this one wasn't on KU. $5 is too much for this BS.

In book 2, Kay was 32. Book 3 was a year later so, 33ish. Her BFF Sage is the same age with 15yo twin girls. Supposedly Sage got pregnant the last part of their senior year in HS. Fast forward another year to book 4, Protected by you, Sage is 34 and states she got pregnant at 16 and her kids are 15. Already the math doesn't add up. No way can you get pregnant at 16 and have 15yo kids at 34.

JJ stated he was closer to 40 than 30 so he can't be in his 40s as one reviewer stated unless it was in another unedited part of the book. He also said he was with saddled with his wife for 10 years because the condom broke then a paragraph later says their daughter is 14. At that point I was done.

I won't be reading anything else by this author. Especially if she's going to charge so much and can't be bothered to proofread before she hits publish.

Completely worth the read

First, I have to say, that this is the first time I ever read anything from this author, but definitely won’t be the last.
Secondly, I loved how the storyline and how the complete and utterly unknown of the twist turned out.
I have to say, my family thought I was losing my mind... I was laughing so hard and way to many times, by myself. This book had me really, really rollin’ on the floor.
Thirdly, JJ and Sage’s life is so realistic that it mirrored so many of my own friends, who are in the Police Department or who are also in SWAT and Special Task Forces.
These Officers are like family and they’re always there for each other. Yes, there’s always that one nut in the group that starts something...

But I digress.
You will TOTALLY love this book. I am eagerly awaiting to see what’s next.

I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book via Booksprout, and any opinions expressed within this review are solely and uniquely made by me and I am happily leaving this review.

JJ and Sage both have teenage daughters from prior relationships. I can only hope that the triplets of terror - as the daughters are affectionately known by the end of this book - will get their own books as adults. The entire SWAT team is also here in all their glory so of course hilarity and hijinks ensue. JJ, because he's the team leader and long time father, is the most mature member of the team yet the book opens with him ghosting Sage albeit after he gets some unexpected and extremely upsetting news. A tale of two dating histories, Sage has a phenomenal co-parenting relationship with Danny - they even work together - while calling JJ's relationship with his ex toxic seriously understates how truly awful she is. Said terrors also help get JJ and Sage together with an assist from Sage's ex Danny - who also deserves his own book. Ironically, it's Danny's poor taste in women (post Sage) that comes back to terrorize Sage and the girls. Part of what makes this series so good is that while the SWAT team rides in the save the day, the female characters (both the women and the girls) are empowered and stand up for themselves.

I adored this book! I literally laughed out loud for most of the book

This is a book about two single parents. Before the book starts they went out and JJ decided he had too much stuff going on and never called Sage back. He then realizes what a stupid decision that was and has his teenage daughter help him get Sage to his house. Sage has teenage daughters the same age as JJ's.

Sage and her ex are extremely close, they may not have worked out as a couple but as friends they are absolutely amazing. JJ and his ex don't like each other, I'm almost positive they never did.

Between the terror triplets and the group of friends there is never a dull moment in this book. The instant connections and relationships built in this book is just fantastic. And mixed in with all the fun is actually some seriousness.

Sage and JJ's story is exactly what we would expect from Nikki and I could read this book over and over and I don't think I would get tired of it.

I found this to be a superb storyline that grabs you right from the start keeping you engrossed and on edge throughout the whole book!

Great characters that will keep your interest extremely well. The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things interesting. Add in drama and steamy passion and you have a good read.

It is complete with its very own HEA, however, secondary characters are interconnected with other books in the series.
Each book can be read as a standalone or they can be read in order of publication for maximum pleasure *wink, wink*

All-in-all, you would not be reading reviews if you were not already intrigued by the blurb, so I will stick with what you need to know:

You will find plenty of toe curling steaminess with a laugh or two along the way, and smile on your face from their happily ever after. No cliffy, no cheating.

This is the fourth book in the SAPD Swat series and it wil not disappoint. This story will keep you entertained, have you laughing out loud, strong characters, and off the charts chemistry. Sage has not time for games or anything else, she is raising her twin girls, dealing with her business and managing her ex husband and business partner. So when she goes on a date with sexy swat team member JJ and he never calls again, she moves on. JJ knows he messed up and wants another chance. So with the help of his daughter, Sage's daughters and her ex will he get another change to make it up to her? He will spend the rest of his life doing this if she will let him back in. I really enjoyed this book and this series. I can't wait for the next one.
