A courageous journey with many twist and turns as two people grasp the challenges of Alzheimer’s This is a true story of two people taking a cross country trip to celebrate 40 years of marriage with an unwelcome guest known as Alzheimer’s. The writer shares their story in a most candid way. Not only does she share the geographical trip but the many nuances of the disease and how it impacts the mundane and extraordinary events of each day. A brave journey that one will benefit from reading. I highly recommend it.

What a special book this is, succinctly and candidly capturing the highs and lows that a dementia diagnosis can bring. It's written with real passion (the author is not afraid to show things just as they are) and the searingly honest and detailed narrative pulls a real punch. For me, it is the detail which makes this book unique and creates a book all caregivers will identify with and learn from. There's a natural, relaxed writing style here and a great narration from Robin Siegerman. A unique account of a unique road-trip. Insightful, humorous and emotional.

A true story from the caretaker's daily interactions with a person with dementia. What really happens day to day, how Sue cared, coped and learned to look at things from the patient's deminishing mind. Read it in a day and one-half.

I doubt most wives could do the traveling you have accomplished!

This is a very sad but real story. You are very brave to handle it all as you do.

My mom has Alzheimer’s and I feel like she is already gone. It’s a terrible disease.

This book is truly authentic, and while highly personal and entertaining provides tremendous insight in how to treat those who are suffering from cognitive impairment. These include treating the person with the same respect that you would have given them prior to their dementia, making them feel useful by giving them tasks appropriate to their capabilities, carrying on a lifestyle emphasizing the things that they enjoy, and communicating in an unambiguous manner and providing lots of love. - recommended for everyone, because sooner or later, while you may not be a caregiver, you will encounter someone with dementia.

I enjoyed this book very much. A trip to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Okay not so unusual but it is 3 months long and one of them has been diagnosed with dementia. Susan does a wonderful job of taking us along with her and George. You will laugh and cry and shake your head at this book. Robin Siegerman is the narrator for this audiobook and she is wonderful.
I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
Oh and I now see that there are more by Susan Straley I will have to look into them.

A three month long car trip would test any couple's patience, but add in the fact that one has recently been diagnosed with dementia, and you are in for a challenging ride. Journey along with Susan and George as they explore by car and bike, meet new friends, encounter physical and emotional setbacks, and celebrate their 40th anniversary on the road together.
