Is it wrong to fall in love with someone who makes your blood boil?
An enemies to lovers clean romance featuring a bundle of kittens and one very grumpy cat!
Carlisle Danvers has spent the last six months hiding. His time as a successful actor has made him wealthy, but at a price. His heart was shattered, and he turned away from the acting world and sought solace in Saffron Springs with his beloved cats, away from fame, away from the intrusive media, away from everything, especially love.
Juliet Connelly, manager at Furs Hill Animal Rescue, left the man she'd planned to spend her life with three years ago. He betrayed her, took her money, and lied to her, smashing her heart. She’s not willing to risk it again.
When Juliet and Carlisle's first meeting gets off to a sticky start, she's convinced he's an entitled, difficult actor. So why does she keep thinking about him?
Carlisle wants to retreat back to his mansion, his cats, and his quiet life, but the beautiful determined Juliet bothers him. When Carlisle accepts a patron role at Furs Hill, they find themselves thrown together, and he can’t deny the attraction between them.
As they feed abandoned kittens, plan charity events, and learn more about each other, their relationship deepens and dislike morphs into something breathtaking and heart thuddingly scary.
Will their blossoming love among the kittens be enough to stop them from pulling back and risking their hearts? And will they give in to their feelings and give true love a chance?
This is a full-length sweet and clean contemporary romance set in the frantic, fur-filled world of animal rescue. If you love happy ever afters, quirky animals, and swoony romance, this book is for you.
I picked up this book because I am a cat lover, and the setting in a non-kill animal shelter was a nice background. However, this book had very little romance in it. The couple did not even have a first kiss until the grand gesture when the book was over 90% done! Even then, Juliet debated whether she wanted to date Carlisle.
Maybe I’ve just had my fill of prickly, standoffish female leads in my reading lately, but Juliet was very annoying, judgmental, and even mean to Carlisle over and over again. There were hardly any scenes where Juliet and Carlisle interacted warmly or showed any chemistry. There were pages and pages of the two characters thinking and debating in their heads, but I wish for more genuine dialogue and interaction. Reading this book just wasn’t very pleasant, except for the kittens, and that wasn’t enough to carry the story.
I understand all of the great reviews since this was a book even I, the biggest non-cat-lover around could love. My problem isn't with the story one that if Juliet had removed the judgmental, rude, mean hearted stick that was firmly planted this could have been good. It would have been even better if there was more actual dialogue and interaction between the characters than this wonderful broken man doing all he could to win her favor. It seems the only time she was nice to him is when she was getting her way. It was nice to read a book that had been edited well and flowed nicely it would have been better had both characters been the type to give me the warm fuzzies. As it were it was hard to believe in their love since I couldn't feel it. As always this is my personal opinion and I am clearly in the minority.
I loved this book, especially reading about the cats. Carlisle is a famous movie star who was recovering from a breakup-he is realizing that the actress was basically using him and he didn't really enjoy her company. Juliet's boyfriend had talked her into investing in his business, only to drop her and hadn't even made an effort to repay her. She also realizes she had been used and is now leery of getting close to another man. She and Carlisle do have some misunderstandings and she comes across as prickly, but Carlisle does too. They both manage to work through their misunderstandings and find a way to keep an arrogant developer from getting his hands on Furs Hill. Nice ending.
This is a fantastic story and perfect for anyone who loves cats, as this is the love that Juliet and Carlisle also share. Juliet runs an animal shelter and Carlisle has taken a break from acting to mend his broken heart, and what better way than to immerse himself in something he loves - cats! Juliet hopes that Carlisle will help her save the animal shelter by becoming a patron, but as she gets to know him, she realises she doesn't just want him to love and cuddle the kitties. She wants a little bit of that herself.
Love, Furballs and Forever: WOW! Great of saving animals and a star. She loved her Fur Hill Rescue for all animals. Carlisle had a meeting at Fur Hills and he didn't know what he was getting himself into until he saw the kittens and the manager in charge. Juliet was beautiful and he was there when two of the employees were bring in boxes and when looked in the boxes a saw all the kittens he fell in love with them. He wanted to help and learn more about taking care of them. I really enjoyed their story and it was very entertaining.
If you're an animal lover you should like this book, especially if you like cats. Juliet is the manager of Fur Hills, an animal rescue shelter where the animals are given a second chance. The shelter is in trouble since developers want to buy the land to build houses. Carlisle meets Juliet at the shelter, and volunteers to help out. Happy ending for everyone.
Can a movie star and a director of an animal shelter get together? When Carlisle and Julia get together, it was just for him to possibly make a donation to Furs Hill. Be thrilled as you follow the ups and downs to making things happen. Will Furs Hill be forced to sell so that a housing development can come in or can Julia stop the sale? This was an enjoyable read and I recommend it.
The story was cute and I enjoyed the plot but it was a fairly tedious read. The same lines were repeated constantly and the verbiage was odd in a lot of places. The main character, Juliet, was insufferable throughout most of the book. I did find that as the story progressed, the quality of writing improved a bit.
Purrfectly adorable book. This is the perfect mix of adorable cuddly kittens and a feel good romance between a hunky billionaire, who adores cats and a prickly, romance scarred manager of an animal rescue center. I enjoyed the characters as well as the details outlining what happens at an animal shelter. If you love cats and romance then this book is for you.
"A side that might mean he didn't think he was such a movie star god. Although, with that chiselled jaw, maybe he could afford to think that now and again."
"Although he'd been a bit of a brat when they'd first met, maybe there was more to him than met the eye. More than his good looks.
Leaving Hollywood and moving to a country area was just what Carlisle needed to regain his perspective on what direction he wanted his life to take. Anrescue center f
She’s the manager of an animal sanctuary. He’s a movie star that comes in to check out donating. They don’t hit it off but they grow on each other. He saves the sanctuary by donating and he saves her by love!
This was the most enjoyable story I have read in a long while. I am an animal lover and enjoyed their part in the story. Stinky, furry and Lady Pettipaw were a great addition.
What's not to like when a story includes adorable shelter animals and a hunky leading man? The plot was somewhat typical with misunderstandings causing a rift between the main characters, but worth reading, nonetheless.
This story is woven with intrigue, drama, and humor. The portrayal of the various animals adds as much to the storyline as much as the two legged creatures.
Karen Drew deems to know how to use animals and romance to show the good and the bad of love. Definitely can't wait to start her next book. This book is a great, addictive, and a easy read. Thank you again for a great story.
I picked this book, because it was a sweet romance with a animal rescue place it it. It was a nice, quick read and the animal rescue/shelter was a great one. I like how Carlisle and Juliet work together.
If you love animals and romance, this is the book for you. It is very well written and holds your attention. This is a new-to-me author and I can't wait to read her next book.
