Snow deals with questions of political and personal integrity and power. He is wonderfully insightful regarding his characters' motives, thoughts and feelings. A great read. The novel is a series of related stories told by Lewis Elliot, a lawyer, university fellow, British World War II government servant, and civil servant after the war.
