Loved the dialogues!

When it comes to sci-fi, two things can make or break a book for me. One is the way the author describes alien technology and the other is dialogue. Neither disappointed in this story.

I especially loved the innocent banter from the two 'angels' on Jake's shoulder. I think that was a clever touch. They were funny, curious about our world, and at times sarcastic. But they did that so naturally that I didn't even question it's originality.

Oh, and them talking to cats, because they are superior creatures... It brought a smile to my face. I recommend reading this book if you are looking for something along the usual lines, but made unique by the diversity of the characters.

Moonglimmer has an interesting premise: that earth was re-colonized by alien races when the ancient civilizations of Atlantis and Lumeria were destroyed by an asteroid. Now, one of those races is being threatened, and their caretakers are on a mission to keep them safe and potentially find them a new home. Jake Foley is trying to run away from his destiny and duty, but gets pulled back in. Despite the fun premise, the story dragged, the characters felt a bit one-note., and the narrative relied too much on exposition heavy dialog. That said, the book might appeal more to fans of plot driven, high concept science fiction.

Young readers that are fans of fantasy and readers that enjoy YA fantasy will likely also enjoy this book. This reminded me of a few fantasy stories that I enjoyed growing up.
I did find the transitions between action scenes a bit jarring; the sentences highlighted in bold were more of a distraction than anything, and kind of reminiscent of stage directions written in a screenplay.
When following the action sequences in the beginning, I found that I was more interested in reading about Jake than I was reading about Sheila and the Distan.
Overall, an entertaining read.

I'm adding a review with my son's input as my son LOVES Michael Kott's books. He read this in two days. He greatly enjoyed Life Shift and looked forward to this book with anticipation. For sci fi & mythology fans these books are perfect. He felt it was better than Life Shift and more coherent, not a sequel but a "parallel" & good as a stand alone novel if you have not read Life Shift. He also says that he hopes there are several more after this one.
