“He seems like a bad influence.”

Beau’s been hearing about his brother’s best friend, Trick, for years - and has made his disapproval of their friendship known in more ways than one. Beau’s a steady, solid, set in his ways kind of guy, and he just wants his brother to do well in life… but this Trick guy is at the root of every mischievous story his brother tells.

"I’m not afraid of being who I am and wanting what I want. Are you?"

Patrick thrives on spontaneity, mischief, and mayhem. Injured in a car accident in his teens, he hasn’t let his limited mobility hold him back from experiencing all life has to offer. And when life offers up a cute vet just when he needs help for his service dog, Pepper, who is he to turn it down?

Welcome to Sunnydale Vets, where love is the best medicine, and all it takes to fix your problems is the willingness to roll up your sleeves and get to work. This heartwarming book features mpreg, an omega who isn’t about to let his disability get in the way of living his best life, a handsome veterinarian who needs to learn how to loosen up, and one heck of an awkward identity reveal. This book and every other book in the Sunnydale Vets series can be read in any order.

I love reading stories about imperfect MCs. In this book, one of the MCs (Patrick) is in a wheelchair. Beau, who's a vet, doesn't care at all; he falls for Patrick and Patrick's service dog, Pepper. Little does Beau know that Patrick is the infamous Trick his little brother's been talking about for years.

Major glaring oversight: Travis has been besties and roomies with Patrick for seven years, and in all that time, Patrick has never once met Travis's brother or fathers. Indeed, no one has ever seen a picture of Patrick: no selfies, no social media pics, NOTHING, for SEVEN. YEARS. (Never mind that Travis, who's 25, acts like he's 15).

The MCs were flat and the romance not well developed. I did like Pepper the pup. Mpreg is mentioned in passing at the end, which is a HEA. This is a quick read but nothing special.

this one was pretty cute and I enjoyed it enough to continue reading it and I always like to see how the two come to be together in the end and I ended up really enjoying the cute and sweet ending in this one. This beginning was a bit slow and sometimes I had a hard time focusing on the story because it didnt hold my attention as much as the other Austin bates books usually do. Patrick was about to travel to see his bestfriend in his bestfriends hometown and planned on joining their family barbeque. patrick was bound to a wheel chair due to an accident when he was younger and had a service dog who ended up getting hit my a driver not paying attention. he ends up falling for his dogs vet not realizing who the guy was and the guy doenst know who he is either. They end up realizing the connection once running into each other at beus family barbeque. turns out Patrick is beuas brother bestfriend and roommate but he always was mentioned in his brother's stories as a nick name trick so it never dawned on him before. beu has a hard time showing his true feelings but knows he doenst want to scare Patrick away because he is developing strong feelings for him and has a bad way of showing it. pattrick is the oposite of beu and is spontaneous and not afraid go let his true feelings show and beau isnt sure if hes ready for someone like Patrick in his life but knows he doesnt want a life without him. This was a cute and fun quick read over all.

I really need to read synopsis' before diving into a book because I didn't know it was an omegaverse without the shifter aspect. Anywhooo, this is a small town , novella sized romance, with the brothers best friend trope and disability rep. Definitely insta love and relatively low steam with a happily ever after. This would have been much better if it was longer and less rushed.

Audiobook given by author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a sweet omegaverse story about chance encounters, surprises and letting go and doing the unexpected for once in your life in order to get what you want.

Bo and Patrick are just perfect for one another, they complement each other perfectly and are adorable together.

Things I did not entirely love... I have to admit I felt a little disconnected from the characters and the relationship they were developing, so I wasn’t really invested. Also, the interactions on the book were all a little awkward, so my head really got into the story, I’m still trying to figure out if it was the narration or the writing though.

But, as a beginning it seems promising, and I’m willing to continue with it, because I do think the characters were cute.

I struggled with this one. I had a hard time finding the connection between these two. Not to mention, I really struggled with Beau not having ever met his brother's best friend Patrick ever in 7 years. Not once. I mean, maybe he wouldn't have seen him before, but he didn't know his full name? I'm having a hard time buying that.

I'm not sure that I'm going to continue with the series.

I haven’t read a mpreg story in a minute but this was cute. There wasn’t any angst, which I appreciated.

I love Austin Bates there is just something about his writing that makes me believe everything that he writes. I liked this story. It was shortish but I am not upset by that. Beau is just living his life being a vet and does not understand his brother and his crazy ways. He always hears his bother mention Trick and how much shit they get into and he is not about that life. When he does met Patrick he does not realize that he is the same Trick that his bother talks about. I loved Patrick. He was smart and funny and carefree. I loved the relationship that Patrick and Beau had with one another. I also loved Beau's family. I am looking forward to getting to them more about I am looking forward to learning more about the town they call home.

I'll admit I knew this series, and maybe this author, is not the one for me. But reading the summary I noticed that this story featured character in a wheelchair so I was interested in reading it. For what is worth, in my inexpert opinion, I thought that aspect of the story was handled well. Too bad everything else about the story was pretty much disappointing.

Beau is one a of the veterinarians working in a local vet clinic, an alpha (since this was ABO) and a bit of a stuck up. His younger brother Travis could not be more different than him, which leaves Beau exasperated with his behavior which is only made worse, in Beau's mind, by the bad influence of Travis' long time friend and roommate Trick. Hearing about Trick's impending first time visit over the university summer break puts Beau in not the best of moods.

Patrick, or Trick according to his best friend, is a law student in his last year of university, a wheelchair bound omega with a service dog Pepper, who arrives to town few days earlier in order to do some sightseeing before meeting his best friend's family for the first time. Almost immediately after arriving Pepper is hit by a car and rushed to the nearest vet clinic where Beau is the vet who treats him. Pepper's injuries are luckily not too serious.

Patrick is drawn to the handsome alpha and invites Beau to dinner as a thank you. The two of them start casually hooking up without realizing who they are. Follow up revelation that Patrick and Trick are the same person only serves to add another con to Beau's mental pro and con list why a relationship with Patrick would never work out. Because the major conflict of the story seems to be how incompatible Beau and Patrick's personalities are, Beau likes everything even love and romance to be planned ahead, while Patrick is the more impulsive go with the flow guy. In Beau's mind these seem to be insurmountable differences in character. Which I could not find nothing short of ridiculous. Not only that but Beau's mental gymnastics most of the time did not even sound like they made any sense and were hard to follow.

This was my major issue with the story. Not that the story was that exciting to begin with but Beau's reasoning only managed to drag the whole story down even further in my opinion. Another issue I had was another seemingly random mentioned in literally the last couple of pages of the story. Is there some law dictating at the end of their story?

Themes: dual POV, ABO, younger brother's best friend, opposites attract, service dogs

I read this book as part of an arc program. This is the romance between Beau and Patrick. Beau is a vet in the small town of Devon. When Beau's younger brother Travis comes home for the summer from college, Beau listens to his stories about his roommate Trick. Travis and trick are known for partying and Beau doesn't like Trick based on what he hears about him, even though he never met him. Patrick (Trick) decided to come to Devon earlier than he told Travis so he can roam around town on his own. Patrick is in a wheelchair after an accident when he was in his teens and he has a service dog named Pepper. One day while walking around town, Pepper was hit by a car and Patrick rushed him to the vet. Beau was on duty and examined Pepper, who would be fine, other than a few stitches. Beau kept Pepper overnight and when he helped Patrick back to his hotel with Pepper and showed him how to care for the wound, they flirted back and forth. Partick kissed Beau and asked him out. They began seeing each other and Beau wondered if it would lead anywhere because Patrick was not from Devon. Patrick was a carefree guy who took things as they came and Beau liked to plan everything. When Travis realized Patrick was dating his brother, he was fine with it, but Beau needed to plan everything, making Patrick wonder what the future held. Beau had to think things over and Patrick was left unsure if Beau wanted to keep seeing him. I really loved this story. I think they complimented each other perfectly. I love how Beau didn't care about Patrick's disability and thought it was the least interesting thing about him. I thought Beau needed someone to help him relax and take things as they came. Patrick wasn't at all like Travis had made him seem and Beau realized that. I look forward to reading more.

Beau is a vet in town. He’s an alpha who likes his routine and things to be in order. He never does anything without a plan. When his brother visits from college he’s disheartened to hear another one of his brother’s stories about his antics with his best friend Trick. Beau feels that Trick is a bad influence and isn’t afraid to tell his brother exactly how he feels.

Patrick is spontaneous and loves doing things on the fly. After an accident as a teenager leaves him partially paralyzed, he wont let that hold him back from living his life. When his service dog Pepper is injured he needs to find a vet. And he’s pleasantly surprised when the vet taking care of Pepper is a gorgeous alpha.

Beau is set in his ways and is shocked that he finds himself drawn to his patient’s owner. It unsettles him that this omega has him going against the norm. Will Beau be able to move past his own quirks and allow the spontaneous Patrick into his life.

I’m so excited to start this new series. From the start the characters were engaging and pulled me in. I loved the contrast between Beau and Patrick. Beau was definitely the ying to Patrick’s yang. Their differences make them perfect for each other. I’m looking forward to see where this series takes me next.

What a great start to a new series! Austin has created a wondrous world. You will love the vibrant characters and lovely story. I was drawn in from page one.
Beau is a sexy as hell vet working at the Sunnydale clinic (named for founders Sunny and Dale). His brother's best friend is coming for a visit. Beau has pre-judged Trick, based solely on stories his brother told. Patrick isn't anything like the stories. Confined to a wheelchair since his teens, he has a real can-do attitude. He also has a service dog he loves dearly. When she gets hit by a car, he takes her to the sexiest vet he's ever seen. Instant attraction becomes a house call becomes more than a one night stand. Imagine everyone's surprise when it is revealed Patrick is the infamous Trick. And that Beau is Patrick's best friend's brother.
You will fall in love along with Beau and Patrick. You will share as they feel their way into each others likes, desires, hopes, realizing that a disability is only one if you let it be. a
And that you can't judge someone by second hand information. Sometimes love and opportunity are right in front of you.
This book contains adult themes and language, MM sex and is intended for mature 18+ readers.

Patrick (Trick) has six months before he graduates as a lawyer and jumps at the chance to visit his best friend for a few days during summer break. Trick and Travis are we’ll know at college for the pranks and scrapes they get into..
Beau is Travis older brother and is the very opposite of Travis, he likes every detail of his life thought out and planed. He dislikes surprises.
When Patrick’s dog Pepper is hit by a car he is devastated but the handsome vet is reassuring the damage is minimal.
When Patrick texts Beau an invitation to dinner Beau is so surprised he just stares until his coworkers take his phone and answers for him.
Dinner turns into something more and they spend every moment they can together.
Beau would much rather spend his time with Patrick than go go to the family bbq to meet his brothers friend Trick whom he believes is a bad influence on Travis. He is shocked to learn Trick and Patrick are one and the same.

Another great book by Austin Bates, I really liked the slower pace of this story.

Beau is Travis's older brother and a Doctor at the vet clinic. Travis 's best friend is Patrick, but Travis calls him Trick. Patrick arrives in town and is out exploring when his dog is hit. They take him to the closest vet clinic and Patrick meet Dr. Beau Thompson. Beaus takes care of Pepper and gets him fixed up, but he has to stay overnight at the clinic. When Patrick comes back to get Pepper Beau helps him get the dog settled in the hotel room.Beau and Patrick spend a few days getting to know each other. At the BBQ Patrick is telling Travis about the doctor that is taking care of Pepper and is surprised when Beau walks in the door. Beau does not know how to how to take it when he finds out that Trick is his Patrick. Beau needs time to get thing straight in his mind on how to work this out. Will there be a future for Patrick and Beau? Can Beau get past the differences between the two of them? Will Patrick want to come back to a small town when he can do so much more in a bigger city.

After reading the first third I was all prepared to call this sweet if a little boring. Now I don't even know how I got through this, there was absolutely nothing even remotely interesting about this story.
About half of this is taking place in Beau's head, circling and overanalysing things that don't even pose an obstacle - like at all. Another quarter of the story is roughly summarized happenings and only the remaining quarter is plot told in actual scenes with dialogue and such. To top it off it's predictable, cliché and even manages to be implausible without any innovative idea at all.
The main "conflict" in this book is that Beau is scared of not being able to predict the future. He can't be a hundert percent sure if a relationship will work out. Wow.
Also: Why was this an omegaverse story? There was nothing at all that indicated these two (or anyone else) were anything other than regular dudes - except for the mention of a pregnancy in the epilogue tagged on as an afterthought that held no relevance for the story whatsoever.
I've read so much better books by Austin Bates.

This was actually a really sweet story. It was low on the tension and the issues that happened were a mix of misunderstanding (understandable in the story) and that Beau and Patrick are certainly opposites in the planning for the future. I think the complement each other nicely in the end. It was nice to see characters that could actually deal with the issues rather than just letting them fester and grow into a bigger problem. I also loved that Pepper, the service dog, was more than just a plot device. I really liked his interactions with Travis, they were adorable.

I did find it odd that Travis and Patrick have been roommates for 7 years, and Patrick didn't know that Travis's brother was named Beau. Thompson might be a relatively common last name, but you would think Beau Thompson would have been a clue if Patrick knew the brother's name. It just seemed odd to me.

This was such an unexpected surprise. I bought it as soon as it was released and dived right in. Besides Austin Bates being a favorite - the story premise of an optimistic Omega in a wheelchair with a service dog. What?! How can it get better? Well throw in a Veterinarian main character (Fist pump! Yes!)

Did it meet my expectations? Yes. Will I continue with the series? Most definitely. This isn't your typical story of a disabled wheelchair-bound young man. There are so many times you forget he's in his chair. It's not the focus of his life. Being independent is. But can even his strong confident nature overcome the grumpy all work & no play Alpha he connects with, and who keeps surprising him with his thoughtfulness.

What I enjoyed most about this book was how the Omega did not act as if he had a disability. He lived his life. He enjoyed his life and insisted on being allowed to live it. Never though did he expected to fall in love.

Beau guessed when he met Pepper that he was a service dog - if the working harness was no clue, the man who accompanied the lab in his wheelchair would probably have been a give away.

But the nerdy vet was thankfully good at his job, good news for Pepper and his handler Patrick, a soon to be lawyer.

what neither put together was that the cutie with the injured dog - roommate to baby brother Travis, and featured frequently in his partying stories.

Can the two get past pre-conceived notions? maybe. they balance and ground each other, and bring a little spontaneity - a great pair together.

sweet, if somewhat goofy, romance

Beau is a serious alpha veterinarian who needs to relax. Patrick is a disabled mischief maker omega who is full of life. These two men were brought together by their concern for Pepper, the sweet service dog. Their attraction to each other is immediately felt and has them wanting more. An unexpected situation causes some ups and downs, confusion, doubts, lots of contemplation, and hope.
This is a sweet story with characters and storyline that are interesting and will keep your attention. There are laughs, deep thoughts and feelings, a surprising connection, sizzling passion, a sweet love, and a satisfying HEA.

Patrick's service dog Pepper has an accident and is treated good looking vet Beau.
During the summer break Patrick agrees to visit his friend Travis in Devon his home town. He decides to go earlier and spend time looking around and being in a wheelchair with a service dog he needs to ensure the arrangements are suitable. When he gets to the motel he and Pepper head to the shops to buy some supply like dog food. As they return to the motel Pepper is hit by a vehicle and Patrick rushes to to the nearest Vets with the help of the car owner. There he meets Beau Thompson and the two are attracted but they are unaware the they are Travis' best friend and his brother. A MM romance relax and enjoy.

4.5 stars. Beau lives a life of fear, he's sure if he can just plan every detail that things will be perfect; nothing bad will happen, no unhappy surprises, no broken heart. He cares for the people around him and his patients. Patrick is spontaneous and independent. He doesn't see his wheelchair as a hindrance or reason to hide. I liked how he doesn't hold back when things get out of sorts between them. He asks questions and demands answers. He's also insightful. He understands how Beau's anxiety filled mind works and gives him time to process and think it all through, but not too much time. The ending is lovely.

This is a great start to a new series. I loved the characters, and especially Patrick's (Trick) zest for life. In spite of (or maybe because of) a car accident in his youth that left him disabled, he has a no holds barred approach to life. Beau, on the other hand, is a rigid, stoic, very in-control guy. When he and Trick come together, it is like the ocean waves crashing on a rocky shore, as Patrick erodes Beau's resistance. This is a sweet, funny, pretty low-angst story, and I look forward to more in this series.

A cute and sweet story that is a promising start to this series. Patrick and Beau meet when Patrick’s service dog is injured and is taken to Beau’s vet clinic. Sparks fly as soon as they meet and they begin seeing each other but Beau isn’t too sure about Patrick especially when he finds out that Patrick is also his brother’s best friend who he’s always thought of as a bad influence! Things do get complicated but through it all, I really like how sure of himself Patrick is and he doesn’t give up. If only he could break through Beau’s walls! The narrator did a great job with all of the characters and with the story. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

I should really learn to read the blurb all the way through before I start a book?? So this one is on me. Because I’m not into omegaverse books and this took me by surprise.

The book started off pretty well but I guess omegaverse books where no shifters are involved makes even less sense to me than if shifters actually existed in the story? I just don’t get the whole dynamic when it’s your normal, everyday humans and then pregnancy happens when a character isn’t even trans. So I’m out.

DNF @ 15%.

Trigger warnings for omegaverse, mpreg, and a dog gets injured by a car (the dog lives so that’s good??).

It was my first contact with this author, but it won't be the last one.

This is a lovely story about friendship and love. It is quite short and can be read separately from other books in this series which makes them all perfect summer reads. It's a super sweet love stories with likable, cute characters and adorable pets. I liked both MCs, but Pepper was my absolute number one, she's awesome!
It is a super sweet insta-love type, but the chemistry between MCs is good and they spent some time to get to know each other so it was fine. There are hot sex scenes, lots of feelings and LOTS of FUN!

Cute story but with one glaring plot hole: like another reviewer pointed out, how has Beau not ever seen a picture of his brother's best friend before? It might be possible that Beau isn't a social media person and that Travis always got distracted by telling stories of what he and Patrick, aka Trick, got up to together to bother showing his family any pictures of his best friend of seven years. But if those things were true, they needed to be stated to have the whole plot make sense, which is that Beau is stunned to learn that Patrick, the sweet omega he was falling for, was the same wild Trick of Travis's stories.

Beau was an alpha who had to plan everything out. Patrick was an omega who was spontaneous. Patrick went to visit Travis at his family's home in Devon. While there his dog was hit by a car and he was brought to the animal clinic. Beau is the vet on call at the time. Things started to happen between him and Patrick. After getting over his own problems Beau asked Patrick to marry him. Patrick had a surprise for him, he told him he was pregnant. They have a HEA ending.

This was such a cute book! Of course my favorite character was Pepper but Beau and Trick were pretty cool too I guess XD But really, it was nice seeing them get to interact and begin forming a relationship without knowing that Trick is Travis’s best friend and Beau is Travis’s brother (who has always thought Trick is a bad influence on Travis). And as an outside spectator, it was tense waiting to see when they would learn who each other really was and how they would react. Definitely interested in reading more of this series!
