Andrew Carnegie's Mental Dynamite: How to Unlock the Awesome Power of You

Rate this book
Based on a series of booklets written by bestselling motivational writer Napoleon Hill, Andrew Carnegie’s Mental Dynamite outlines the importance of three essential principles of self-discipline, learning from defeat, and the Golden Rule applied.

In 1908, Napoleon Hill met industrialist Andrew Carnegie for what he believed would be a short interview for an article. Instead, Carnegie spent hours detailing his principles of success to the young magazine reporter. He then challenged Hill to devote 20 years to collating a proven formula that would propel people of all backgrounds to happiness, harmony, and prosperity. Hill accepted the challenge, which he distilled in the perennial bestseller Think and Grow Rich .

Now, more than a century later, the Napoleon Hill Foundation is releasing this epic conversation to remind people that there are simple solutions to the problems troubling us most, everything from relationships and education to homelessness and even democracy. This is revealed in three major self-discipline , which shows how the six departments of the mind may be organized and directed to any end; learning from defea t, which describes how defeat can be made to yield “the seed of an equivalent benefit” and how to turn it into a stepping-stone to greater achievement; and the Golden Rule applied for developing rewarding relationships, peace of mind, and a strengthened consciousness.

Each chapter draws on Carnegie’s words and advice as inspiration, with annotations by Napoleon Hill scholar James Whittaker explaining why they are essential for reaching your goals and prospering—for you, your family, and your community.

Oliver Napoleon Hill was an American self-help author and conman. He is best known for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937), which is among the best-selling self-help books of all time. Hill's works insisted that fervid expectations are essential to improving one's life. Most of his books were promoted as expounding principles to achieve "success".
Hill is a controversial figure. Accused of fraud, modern historians also doubt many of his claims, such as that he met Andrew Carnegie and that he was an attorney.

Absolutely brilliant. I'm a big Napoleon Hill fan but sometimes (as a woman) the masculine language can be a little off-putting. This book totally modernizes and freshens these important lessons, and I was surprised at how much new material was included here given Hill and Carnegie have been revered for so long.

I started following James Whittaker since the amazing book 'Think and Grow Rich: The Legacy' and am also a big fan of Sharon Lechter (co-author of 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' and 'Outwitting the Devil').

I particularly enjoyed the references to all the people and companies around today who are doing such a wonderful job to personify the lessons of the book. It also clears up the misconceptions of "grow rich" and proves that what Hill and Carnegie were trying to create was harmony and prosperity.

In a time of covid and a lot of tension, this is exactly what I needed.

This was another amazing book put together by James Whittaker who clearly understands what success of all about. The stories in this book are incredible and I would highly suggest pick this book up and also pair this with James’s other book, Think and Grow Rich: The Legacy.

Absolutely superb work that nails what it takes to get ahead and be successful. Hill and Carnegie had their interview in 1908 but the points and strategies remain valid. There are many trenchant passage in this book that evoked a mind-blown response with me. One for the ages. Of all the so-called "self-help" books I've read, it's this one and Brendon Burchard's Motivation Manifesto that have inspired me the most.

This is such a positive and powerful book through out. Personally, I started life by applying self-discipline and the Golden Rule blindly but with good outcomes. I did not have the right attitude toward defeats. Somewhere in the journey, I got soft on self-discipline for other reasons, but have always tried to find a balanced point. This book restored the good old philosophy in life so convincingly that I feel anew with life again. Thank you!
