Humans naturally cling to life, so the idea of suicide is shocking and disturbing. Suicide notes offer a rare glimpse into a moment most will never reach; the moment where we just decide we’ve had enough of being.
Don’t understand why there were so many repeated notes, editing was the poorest i’ve ever seen in a book. Would have been nice to know the people behind the notes too, not even their names, but a little bit of background. Nevertheless, cried like a baby several times.
P.S.: fuck you, Hitler. Killing yourself was the best thing you ever did for all mankind.
When someone dies by suicide the first question is, "How did they do it? And the second question is,"Did they leave a note?" People are fascinated with suicide. Their curiosity is morbid and always evasive especially when the questions are directed at a suicide survivor as if they are obligated to provide an answer. As a suicide survivor and a suicide bereavement counselor the fact is that the person who completes suicide rarely if ever leaves a suicide note. If they do leave a note often there is no clue as to why they decided to end it. Some suicide notes are vicious and aimed at a particular person/s. Other notes give information such as where the banking and passwords are located. As a counselor this book did not ring true. One of the notes is plagiarized as it belongs to a famous author's suicide note. I gave it three stars as some of the notes seemed authentic. The short notes not the novels.
This had a really interesting premise, especially because I haven't come across many books like it before. A lot of the letters were genuinely impactful and emotional. As the same time, the overall presentation felt rushed and poorly put together. I noticed several repeated letters throughout the book, with one poem appearing over three times. There's also no foreword, commentary, or context provided, so it ends up feeling more like a stack of poorly formatted pages than a thoughtfully assembled collection.
I picked this book on sale as suicide has been around me for a long time, as several family and friends have died by suicide. Many feel it's personal and private partially because it's not fully public and many try to hide it. This book was an good quick read. My only issue is that several stories repeated.
Too relatable. Hold my hand next time please. This definitely hurt while reading, some were old, some were teens, but they all had something in common. (Except hitler. He doesn’t deserve anything.)
