Marion Kummerow was born and raised in Germany, before she set out to "discover the world" and lived in various countries. In 1999 she returned to Germany and settled down in Munich where she's now living with her family.
After dipping her toes with non-fiction books, she finally tackled the project dear to her heart. UNRELENTING is the story about her grandparents, who belonged to the German resistance and fought against the Nazi regime.
It's a book about resilience, love and the courage to stand up and do the right thing.
I read about the main character in this book in an earlier book in the series. After her experiences in that book, she became an agent for the British while filling a military women's auxiliary job in Norway. However, once the war ended, there was an urgency to get the women attached to the German military back to Germany.
I enjoyed how the author dealt with the dilemma the heroine faced regarding whether it was safe or not to reveal the espionage she had been performing. Would the British who captured her be willing to check out the truth of her story, or treat her like a liar, or perhaps an enemy spy? Would the Germans, once they found out, understand her motives or regard her as a traitor? The characters in this story were well developed. Conditions of the day do not appear to have been sugar-coated by the author. Suspenseful, this kept me engaged to the end. I definitely can recommend this story.
Another great read from Marion Kummerow. Lotte, from Ms. Kummerow’s “War Girls” series along with her friend Gerlinde is trying to make her way from her Wehrmacht station in Norway to her home in Berlin after Germany’s capitulation ending WWII in Europe. The two women encounter problems as they cross Denmark toward Germany. The end of their war does not end the horror in the aftermath. They use guile and subterfuge and the kindness of strangers to escape the cruelty and danger they encounter. This book can be read stand alone, but will be better understood if one has read the previous books in the series. I whole heartedly recommend all of the several series by Ms. Kummerow about the situation and horror Germans and Poles experience before, during, and after the war in Europe.
Once again Marion has outdone herself...….This novel continues the ongoing saga of one of her characters. Although part of a series, it could be read as a stand-alone. I so enjoy Marion's writing, it is definitely easy-reading. Her plotlines are great, having twists and turns that kept me turning pages hungry for the next exciting bit. As far as this story goes, the end of the war didn't bring relief to its victims, especially women. All that changes is the group in charge and depending on who they were, it could be worse. If you want to disappear into another space and time for a couple of 'me' hours, I definitely recommend any of Marion's books......this one included!
It was great seeing Lottie finally growing up into a responsible person. The scary part was when the British thought she was a Nazi. I laughed when Martha whacked her hair and she dressed as a boy, it was so Lottie. Was great that she made it home and her family was still there. Now I can't wait to read the next book.
As always Marion never disappoints. I am never ready for any of her books to end. And then I am impatient for the next. This whole series is wonderful. I have recommend her books and will again.
Another great book in the series but this was the only one where I didn't like the cover art work. Lotte is still supposed to be young, but the cover makes her look much older and is unflattering.
Another hit for Ms Kummerow! All the usual thrills and spills we have come to expect, and once again I was not disappointed,. I read this book in two days (it would have been one but I had to sleep lol 😊 ). I have read all the books in this series and have loved them all, the characters are brought to life by the author and I could feel all the highs and lows as if I were there, I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series, I would definitely recommend this and all Marion Kummerows books 😀😀😀
This is the 9th book in the series , I’ve read them all and can’t wait to read the next one . I couldn’t put them down , interesting , informative and a really good read bringing families together . I can only imagine the hardships
This is Lotte’s story as she is a spy for Britain but working as a radio operator now living in Norway. The war is over and Lotte and Gerlinde are taken to Denmark where they are classified as POW’s. They both escape from the prison and attempt to make it back to their homes. It’s a harrowing experience for them both as they meet both people who want to help them and those that want to kill them.
I really enjoy Marion Kummerow’s style of writing. I’m always eager to hear what next befalls a character. I was particularly interested in this book because although I’ve read many books about WW2, I’ve not read many about the aftermath of the war. I was impressed with how Lotte and her friend Gerlinde navigated their trip back to Germany.
I loved reading Lotte's story. Her adventures kept me engaged from beginning to end. Imhighly recommend this story, Marion is an amazing writer. Thanks from a long term New Zealand fan.
Marion Kummerow writes the best historical fiction, based on true stories. This is Lotte's story, but we learn more about her family. This is part of The War Girl series. Love the plot, great settings, and strong intense interesting characters. I can't wait for the next book in the series!!!
