Six years have passed since the Nobles’ War and the Empire of Xu has entered a time of radical ethnic cleansing. Under a new imperial mandate set forth by the Emperor of Xu, all gypsies and migrants are to be eradicated, leaving no evidence behind of their existence.

Twenty-one-year-old gypsy and mercenary Jia now finds herself in a difficult position. Unwilling to become a part of the genocide, Jia and another refugee, Tehyo, cross the enemy border of Shiin. Fully expecting to be smote by the nation’s deity, Aurora, Jia and Tehyo are surprised when they find not divine retribution or death, but a Shiin gypsy with the ability to foretell one’s fate.
But in this turbulent world, fate can change with the wind and soon Jia and Tehyo find themselves ensnared in the foreign kingdom of Shiin. Bound by Power to the new royal family and obligated to fight on their behalf, Jia and Tehyo embark upon a journey that will not only change them but alter the Xun Empire forever.

Kara D. Wilson has been writing creatively since the young age of 13. It has always been her dream to become a prominent, young adult author. In 2012, Kara's first novel, The Regent's Daughter, was published.

Kara prides herself in writing strong, realistic characters who, despite their flaws and weaknesses, are relatable and personable. No matter the realm, she works to find a balance between the grit and harshness of reality and the fantasy of engaging characters and plots. Because Kara believes that reading a book should not only be an adventure but an experience wherein the reader learns and grows with the protagonist, she continuously emulates real-world problems and contentious issues to encourage young and new adults to look beyond themselves.

Additionally, Kara is an enthusiastic advocate for young and budding writers. Because she did not have much guidance as an adolescent, she encourages young writers to come to her for tips, tricks, and advice. If you're an aspiring writer, contact her!

Kara graduated from the University of Arkansas with an MA in Communication. In her free time she enjoys playing piano, hiking, watching Japanese animation (anime), teaching ESL, and working on her next novel. 4

I haven't read the 4th book yet and the 2nd so far is my favorite but this is a close second. I really enjoyed this one. I'm absolutely loving the series but one of the make characters was pissing off my feminist soul. But I am so excited to start book 4!

The third book had a main character switch. We are introduced to Jia and her story. Jia is a different character from Reila, but I still really liked reading her story.
