One hundred years after the Collapse violence still rages across the region once known as Georgia. Warlords fight for control with deadly mercenaries known as Gunmen, and Moses Prichard is one of the best. Tired of the constant turmoil he finds solace within the walls of Newlanta, a city struggling to establish an island of peace amidst the chaos. But now the city is threatened by a powerful warlord Moses once served and he is forced to strap on his guns. However, this time he’s fighting for his own reasons. Gunman’s Peace, first novel of an action-packed series by Milton Davis, takes place in a post-apocalyptic world struggling to build a better future by ridding itself of the evils of the past.

If you’re like me you have two issues with post apocalyptic storytelling - it’s generally depressing and it lacks a real diversity of characters. Milton Davis’ Gunman’s Peace is the antidote to all that. It’s a story centered in the new subgenre known as Solarpunk, a more hopeful rendering of post apocalyptic stories. GP takes place in a future Atlanta that is trying to recover from an apocalyptic nightmare. It’s gritty, hopeful, heroic, and centered around a black protagonist. It’s everything I’m looking for in this kind of story. This is a read you want on your desk, nightstand, or in your bag.
Fine work of post-apocalyptic dystopia. It's a tale of the various facets of the human spirit and what drives it, and how our species endures through incomprehensible adversity. A tale of how our relationships mould and motivate us.
Moses Pritchard is technically an anti-hero in that he came of age on the wrong foot. But after many years of being a mercenary, he decides to direct his energy to taking steps to make Georgia a better place to live. In a state devastated long ago, nature has reclaimed much of what it once was, but warlords rule former metropolitan areas. It's a fight between the ones who rule with love and the ones who rule with greed.
This is an action-packed page turner and well worth the investment in time and expense.
