Earther and alien. Love and logic. Fire and… thermite.
Rowan MacLeod is tough as nails. Life was hard on Earth, but she's determined to let nothing hold her back... even after ending up on a rusty bucket of a spaceship surrounded by barbarian aliens. A special mission to resurrect old fighter craft for the rebels is her best chance to prove herself... until disaster finds her again.
As the medic on the Galaxos, Mrax has to be quick on his feet. He doesn't have time for anything else, especially a feisty Earther female. Until the intelligent and beautiful Rowan ends up in his sickbay. She's everything he doesn't need complicating his life. But she's everything he wants.
When a hostile alien team lures Rowan into danger, Mrax will do whatever it takes to save her. Even if he ends up needing a little saving himself.
Rowan and Mrax have one job: build a fleet to save the rebellion. Any distractions could jeopardize the whole universe, even if the force of their attraction is stronger than gravity itself.
But sometimes, even when it doesn't add up, love comes out on top. Now they just have to make sure the rebellion does, too.
I vaguely remembered the prior books in the series when I saw this final book had released. I remember being intrigued by Rowan’s character even from the start. She’s “engineer” and this girl can work on anything mechanical, electronic or weapon. And when none of those things are available, our girl can rig anything up. The engine room is her home, the place shes always felt most at home tinkering around until she can’t see straight from fatigue. Rowan also has a stubborn streak so telling her she can’t or not do something only fires her up more. In fact she loves what she does so much she’s often putting herself in harms way which is what initially creates a sort of mutual dislike between her and her future mate Mrax. As the crews medical officer, Mrax thinks Rowan is careless, particularly when it comes to her own life as he’s already saved her from death a few times. However once these two spend more time together let’s just say their passionate feelings of dislike turn in the opposite direction. They are sent to a planet where Rowan is given free reign on a shipyard where she is to get parts and work on ships for the rebellion. Nothing makes Rowan happier than zoning out on her work, though a barbaric scaled warrior shows her there are quite a few other pleasurable ways to spend her time. It was enjoyable to watch these two grow as a couple and Mrax being in denial about even wanting a mate allows them both to linger in denial and fight any attraction to one another. Rowan inexperience with the opposite sex doesn’t help but Mrax not only likes a challenge is also beyond thrilled to be her one and only. At one point Mrax believes Rowan’s life is at risk and while doing everything he can to save his girl it’s really Rowan who saves the day and sets the rebellion up to be more powerful and formidable against their foe the Alliance. This was an excellent wrap up to a fun and exciting series. The women are all badass warriors in their own rights and the men are as sexy, alpha and protective as a girl could ask for. WHile the warriors struggle with adapting to having badass mates, it’s clear they accept the challenge and will all have exciting if not challenging HEA’s. Looking forward to more from these authors and can’t wait to see what’s up next!
I thought Maisy was naive (book 4) but Rowan is that and more. Unlike Maisy. Rowan is smart, quirky and sweetly clumsy. but my first instinct about the h, was that the character was a woman with ADHD or maybe on the rim of autism. Then the snippets you glean from her past gives you more insight like perhaps she was part of a cult or a movement that were exclusively self reliant ? her family failing to validate her just deepens Rowan's past. I think this story works as well as it does because Rowan is simply....as she so aptly puts it ....scrappy. like she has more brains and a tad less common sense, which is not the case at all, exactly the opposite and the book weaves this tone throughout till you just want to grin. In turn, Mrax's character now becomes chalk to Rowan's cheese, which pushes the once slow burn to catch alight. And as the story goes on her distraction, innocence and social misunderstandings starts to reveal her cleverness. Mrax though, maintains then morphs into the typical mate trope. Her steamy scene showed a hint of natural womanly instinct which just added to the story. finally there was a simplicity about the HEA that was heart warming It's so refreshing though to have all these heroines in this series maintain their strength and Sass. Throughout these books, the trope is set, its just the ladies that alter the plotline with their own personality and you cant help but smile and chuckle on behalf of the big guys as they try to understand the girls. I see that there is one more book Faros..not on audible but it answers my question about the 1 remaining earther violet and the loose ends in Trazzaks book.
Mrax, stuffed shirt I-Don't-Wanna-Mate medic aboard Galaxos is routinely and resoundingly PLAGUED by Rowan, little human female engineer who now serves the Rebellion aboard Galaxos. The ship is a veritable bucket of bolts, and Rowan uses the equivalent of duct tape and wire to not only keep Galaxos running, but make improvements in the old clunker. She's a misfit genius with an apparent death wish - Mrax swears she is the most insanely reckless of all reckless humans. And she keeps ending up in his sick bay, because...reckless. Trouble is, Mrax also notices the fine anatomy under Rowan's singed uniform, and thus begins his downward spiral into lust, love and mating. Rowan is as inept at dating and mating as she is gifted at engineering. But she's kind, and making prosthetic scales for Mrax captures his heart as no act of kindness ever has. She's gutsy, and dares to reach for what she's never had - lust and love both. These two are the opposite of smooth and polished, and their conflicts rub each other the wrong way as often as their trysts rub the right way... Yeah, it's steamy and sexy and finally makes it to HEA. The real fun is in getting there; Mrax and Rowan take you on the rough love ride of your life.
I honestly thought that there couldn’t have been a better story than Maisy and Frrar, but the dynamic between Mrax and Rowan was positively the best out of the series. The calm and collected medic gets rattled by the small quirky and innocent Rowan in just one dangerous episode after another. Throughout the story the internal doubts that they both have is so similar and sweet that it makes you just want to shake them to snap out of it and admit their feelings. Towards the end when they both almost lose each other forever, they face each other with such honesty that you just whoop inside and think finally. Terrific ending to this series!
I reread all the books prior and this one is my favorite by far. I loved the innocence of Rowan, and unlike similar books she doesn’t instantly transform into some sort of sex fiend after her ‘first time’. She slowly explores her sexuality under the gentle guidance of her mate...obviously that’s not the whole story, which has great action and adventure, but the personal and sexual growth is what distinguishes this story from the others. I wish the authors would focus on this series and the new one rather than all the shifters.
Rowan is a human engineer with a habit of getting tunnel vision, she sees the work, and not necessarily the risks she's taking to get it done. Mrax is the ship's doctor, and he's all too aware, not only of the risks Rowan takes, but of how frail a human body is.
This story has characters from another book in the series in a fair amount, has a fun attitude, and centers on a young woman who has never taken the time to get to know people, and as a result isn't much of a people person.
I really enjoyed this one, even as much as I love the Galaxos and its crew. Rowan was one of the first characters I have read in this series I could personally identify with, as I consistently miss social cues and also have an impossible time calming down. I would LOVE to know more about her history. I also loved Mrax, who was deliciously grumpy and gruff and opened up very slowly to the idea of mates and love. I would read more stories just about them, if that ever happened!
I think this is my most favorite book so far in this series!!
I love love love Rowen. She is so brillant! She is clueless to social situations and relationships but such an intelligent engineer! Mrax is the doctor who takes a notice of her quirks and starts a relationship with her to help her. If course it turns into more . When she is "seduced to the dark side" (just kidding) she really shows how much of a genius she really is! I love love love this book!
A beautiful love story between a medical officer and a high energy engineer fall in love. It has adventure, drama, and steamy hot romance with awesome characters? I hope there're more books about the Galaxos Crew. They are awesome and a must buy.
I like that the author paired two different professions when matching these two up. The engineer was the most adorable character I have read recently. The doctors firm rule following mE him perfect for her.
Rowan is a brilliant engineer but lacks some safety awareness and even had extra crew to try and mitigate her danger. Mrax is the doctor who had to attempt to keep her alive. Mrax is a control freak and a prison survivor and Rowan is not good with social exchanges.
I gave this one a 4 because of all the inconsistencies within scenes. And I wonder if the last two were written by the other author because the mysterious bulbs/knots were missing.
