A edição é sensacional, formato maior, papel excelente, lombada de pano. A arte do Foster é absurda em sua simplicidade e elegância. E sua narrativa é surpreendentemente boa, direta e com ritmo cinematográfico: em 1937 ele fazia algo mais "quadrinhos modernos" do que o que a Marvel e DC faziam nos anos 60 - três décadas após.

Enquanto os quadrinhos de heróis estavam naquela de o personagem dando um soco e o recordatório dizendo "e o herói dá um soco", Príncipe Valente tinha um texto enxuto que complementava a arte - sem brigar com ela ou limitar-se a repeti-la. Outro ponto interessante é acompanhar o crescimento do Valente, que na primeira tira é uma criança que cresce, se torna escudeiro, cavaleiro, pai e avô enfim.

Una de las mejores cosas que leí en mucho tiempo. Hal Foster es un genio y lo demuestra en cada viñeta. Increíble que algo de hace más de 90 años tenga mejor ritmo y desarrollo que comics que se publican ahora, y con mucho menos dinero encima.

Si la moneda Argentina aguanta me compro toda la colección.

El estilo y la narrativa me recuerda mucho a la de Schiller. También puedo ver que Hal Foster toma ideas prestadas de las óperas de Wagner así como de los antiguos mitos germánicos como el anillo de los Nibelungos.
Sin duda alguna, no puedo esperar a la entrega de 1938.

The style and the narrative remind me a lot of Schiller. I can also see that Hal Foster borrows ideas from Wagner's operas as well as the old Germanic myths like the ring of the Nibelungs.
Without a doubt, I can not wait for 1938.

Prince Valiant, son of the exile King of Thule, lives in the Fens of Britain during the reign of King Arthur with the hopes of one day becoming a mighty knight. Val proves to be a worthy warrior early on, and his youthful adventures brings him before the witch Horrit, who unveils an unsettling prophecy about Val's future. Revealing to the youth that his life will be filled with discontent, conflict and tragedy, Val hastens his destiny by immediately training in all manner of martial warfare. His tremendous skill at a young age is detected by the passing Sir Gawain, who names Val as his own squire and produces the lad before Arthur's own court at Camelot. From there, Hal Foster's Prince Valiant builds into a grandiose mythology of dizzying heights.

Unlike the traditional comic strip, Foster's approach was substantially more serialized than episodic, with each entry building on the previous as one sweeping narrative. It's a comic strip that rewards the reader for sticking along for the ride, a rarity amongst newspaper strips since the continued readership was never guaranteed. But from a contemporary lens, Prince Valiant stands as a timeless strip that stands far above its many peers. Adding to the uniqueness of the series is Foster's choice of prose, which does away with traditional speech bubbles and caption boxes in favor of a more liberated lettering design. It's very narration heavy, but it only compounds the epic atmosphere of Prince Val's adventures.

Desde hace meses he estado acumulando varios tomos de la colección de Hal Foster, publicada por planeta Deagostini, más que nada los números en los que participó hasta su muerte en el año 79. Con varios tomos amontonados me decidí hace poco a comenzarlo y no solo valen la pena por el arte (que merece una mirada detenida en cada viñeta) sino por la historia misma, las aventuras de Val tienen de todo. Puede que para el lector moderno las historias de aventuras como estas estén algo anticuadas, pero los personajes se hacen más profundos a medida en que se avanza y los vamos conociendos, son tópicos pero no típicos y pronto se hacen entrañables.

I read this entire series through too many times to count. Always loved Arthurian adventure tales, and this is one of the best. The pictures are beautifully drawn and the stories are always exciting, even if they get a little repetitive.

The incredible artwork of Hal Foster makes these a true treasure to read. Being able to go through a year's worth of the Sunday strips is fantastic. Awesome story and incredible art make these books get my highest recommendation.

Excelente, una edición fenomenal para un clásico que no pierde vigencia. Los dibujos de Foster son algo sublime, y el guión cumple, a pesar de pecar de algo simple al principio de la historia. Con ganas de seguir leyendo los tomos siguientes!
