Thirteen year-old Lea Grant’s life is turned upside down when her grandmother moves in. Gramma has Alzheimer’s Disease, and everyone in the family is forced to make sacrifices as they adjust to Gramma living with them. Lea is affected the most because she and Gramma can’t seem to get along, no matter how hard Lea tries. But just when Lea thinks that there is no hope for their relationship, she is thrown into a magical adventure that changes everything. Violent storms, an enchanted hammock, and trips through time show Lea the power of family and friendship, and make her believe in the magic they create.
The story of thirteen-year-old, Lea Grant and her relationship with her grandmother Gramma, who has Alzheimer’s Disease is touching, funny, inspirational, and at just the right level for the YA market. After I read it, I started reading it with my granddaughter. She is equally excited about Ms. McIntire's debut novel. We can't wait to see what else this gifted writer has up her creative sleeves.
Quick page turner of a relationship between a granddaughter and her grandmother who has Alzheimer’s. The time travel subplot was interesting and enjoyable. Great book for young adults!
