It's the next adventure for The Women In Pants. Mary, Katie, Ernestine and the other women reunite for Pearl’s wedding. But when disaster happens, they must once again trade their dresses for workpants and take the reins in pursuit of a bad bunch. This time the women are more seasoned. This time the women know they’re tough. Good. They’ll need to be.
The author who wrote the adventures about "The Women In Pants," I think you all should read both adventures. It's the beginning of a new life/adventure for them all. It's a life with altering changes for all the women and young girls. This is both funny and heart breaking how ugly men can be. It also emphasize how people who thought they were better because they didn't have to work as a soiled dove. The humor falls at the feet of men who love their wives and soon to be wives, how much they loved them, but didn't quite understand the depth of women's feelings or how to deal with them, other than to give them space..I personally think that's a wonderful idea don't you'll? So all of you western adventure readers, and there are a lot of us, take time to read both adventures. You won't be disappointed..as those frontier men say, "don't as' no questions, just git ready" I'm sure you 've heard that statement before..Yieeehaaa to you all..Ride easy.
This second book is narrated by the same story teller. The story begins with the women gathering for Pearl's wedding. Very quickly the story turns into a life and death drama with Prudence and five young girls being kidnapped by an evil gang. Mary leads the remaining women in pursuit of the kidnapped women. Prudence and the little girls are forced to dig minerals from the tunnels of a mine. They are subjected to physical and emotional abuse as they are threatened and starved. The original owners of the mine are a black man and his son who are forced into slavery in their own mine. The depravity of the family holding them all in captivity is as dark as the human mind can conceive. Mary and the remaining women locate the captives but are unable to breach the barriers. A 12 year old girl hurls dynamite that breaks the walls that results in the death and capture of the villains. The men in this story play a minor role as the action takes place in the bravery of the women. The black men prosper and reclaim their mine and are included in the celebration of the marriage of Pearl and Will.
This is an exciting and compelling story of the strength and endurance of women who face seemingly impossible odds. The narrator muses about how individuals are often in pursuit of a many things. There is love, courage, compassion and realistic characters in this well told story. I would recommend this story to any reader who has read the first book as it will be more wonderfully understood. Great Stan!
The whole crew was all coming for Pearle's wedding and it was to be a true reunion of women who had bonded their friendship in achieving a goal that most people thought to be a dangerous folly at best. But that 'folly' showed each woman exactly how smart, tough , brave , and just how far they would go to help each other. Everyone expected to have a good visit, but it might not turn out that way. But, what could go wrong?
"Women in Pants Free Again" was just as exciting as Women in "Pants Side saddle no more" It was exciting, adventure, bond between women, and more have given me thrills. Ride along side these women to find lost loved ones and justice.
More adventures of this group of extraordinary women keep readers on the edge of their seats! Courage and bravery are not limited to adults in this heart-warming story.
I have read both books and found them delightful. The characters are well developed and the premise of using a notebook journal to tell the tales is fresh. Circumstances faced by the women, at home and on the trails were exciting and well thought out. Bravo!
Loved this book as much as the first. The courage and devotion the women have for one another is refreshing. Being in the grip of the current pandemic made this book an escape for me. A pressure valve to escape from the 24/7 worrying that follows me around everyday.
If you write another. I'll be reading it. Thanks for the distraction.
This is the second in this series about Women in Pants, written by Stan Himes. He has done an amazing job with the plot and the continuing characters in this tale. You will also be enthralled with plenty of adventure and excitement, never any dull moments. Pearl is marrying and gentle man, Will, that owns a sawmill and runs an orphanage. Before they are to be married Will is shot, near death and Prudence and the five orphaned girls are kidnapped. The group that has sometimes been called the Bitches in Britches are armed to the teeth and are on the trail to rescue the girls. You will enjoy this story very much.
I love this authors style of writing. Enjoyed the first book more, but really liked this one too. It's nice when you fall in love with the character and you get to read another book to follow them in their lives. Good job Stan Himes!
They kept me from my chores and sleep beside from entertaining me immensely. Need i say more. Really enjoyed this book and the first one. Ride on women in pants!!
Fantastic book and wonderful sequel to "The Women in Pants!"
LOVED every page, very good read and authentic story! Recommend to anyone, not just western book lovers. Thoroughly enjoyed this and wish there was more from this author.
There. I admit it it. I was wrong in my review of "Reputation" when I called it Book Two. Reputation is really Book Three and you do need to read them in the correct order. Regardless of reading this series in the wrong order, I have really enjoyed them and wish there were more of them.
This is a continuation of a writing lesson the likes of which I could never find in a school. Your humor and skillful inner weaving of backstory amaze me.
I thought at first that this series was like all the others but I was wrong! I found this a very complex weave of personalities and an interesting story. Well done!
After reading the first book in the series I decided to read the second one and found it as interesting as the first one so here I go to the third one.
I loved this storyline so much! At last someone who doesn't mind telling about strong women even if it comes from the point of view of a young woman! Great writing and great ending!
Adventure, kidnapping together again old friends reuniting. An entertaining story of hardships, conflicts and friends who are more like family. Plus women in pants.
These books are thrilling. A group of gutsy women who are navigating a dangerous world with so many rules of what women can and can't do. This time it’s to ride after evil man who have severely injured Will, Pearl’s husband to be. Will has an orphanage. These men offered to buy the girls earlier. When Will says no, they come back, attack an unarmed will and kidnap the girls. The Women in Pants ride after them. What they find is cruel and evil. Getting the girls back will take a risky plan and courage. The girls are badly traumatized and injured. Its a nail-biter to the end.
Living in the world in these times, its hard to imagine living in their world.
Both books in this series are well worth reading. They are entertaining , well written books about life in the west from a woman's perspective. They are witty , sad and filled with action. I would read a third one if it becomes available .
I was hesitant at first to read about Women in Pants but I'm glad I did. I've enjoyed the first two books and getting ready to start the third book. Different but good reading.
There was no more sidesaddle riding for them anymore. They were tough, rode hard, wore denim and fired rifles alongside the best of men. These women earned accolades for being kind, working hard and being successful in their chosen careers. In the 1878 era, they worked in stores, rode cattle drives, took in orphans and worked on a big San Francisco newspaper, plus various other career positions. When Pearl was to get married to the man she adored, Will Sterling, they all gathered to be there for the occasion. Trouble was on the horizon when orphans were stolen, and they rode again. Loved the book.
In Pursuit is the 2nd in the series of Women in Pants by Stan Himes. It was a disappointing letdown for me. I enjoyed the 1st book tremendously and looked forward to reading the entire series. The women’s support of each other is heartening. The focus on day to day details seemed like filler. The thugs were repulsive.
